I love these headlines.

It'd be easier to take news sites and blogs seriously if they weren't such hit whores.

Square Enix said Nintendo's marketing it like a toy by promoting Wii Sports, etc. instead of Zelda. This gives a public view of the console as a toy. Nowhere in the entire article did they call it a toy. In fact, he says his original statement was mis-interpreted: "That particular article interpreted what I said in a rather coarse way." So we d...

"The potential for a libel lawsuit would be huge given this game's exposure. Albeit, the characters must look like someone, H. Clinton is too public a figure to be mistaken for anyone else. This would lead to a huge defamation lawsuit on Clinton's behalf."

Err... no. Satire is still (at least currently) a protected freedom of speech. Political figures don't get to choose how they're lampooned via the courts.

This has sold the PS3 for me. I was interested in others like FFXIII, but this game alone justified a purchase. Just waiting for an official release date. My wife's reaction to the trailer was, "Well, we have to buy a ps3 now." My in-laws had the same reaction. As a result, I do think this could boost system sales.

"Locks keep honest people honest. If someone wants to get into your car or house, they will. If someone wants to crack a new anti piracy feature, eventually they will. The trick is, to keep it hard enough of a process where the majority wont bother. That is what makes a successful anti piracy feature."

I agree with your general gist, but I think the target's a little different. Media owners don't care much about pirates because, by now, they know that a copied song or...

It is somewhat true for one aspect.... I don't think, for example, that most people care if they don't get picture in picture or other advanced features, but a simple updated encryption is vital.

Most non-tech people will be taking their players and discs back if they have to burn a firmware disc every time there's a security update. Manufacturers will have to start mailing discs out to consumers just to keep decent relations... Not having wifi or some plan for updates besides...

It's a Mario game.

I know you don't feel it was that great, but I think each game company should be allowed to follow their own philosophy where a franchise is concerned. They very much feel that Mario is not about complex story lines. SPM attempted something slightly more complex and reviewers hated the story aspect.

In recent times Metroid has had far more complex story lines than ever before, and it has enriched the world greatly. I'm not sure that such an in...

Kotaku's article is badly titled and badly editorialized.

Nothing he says there is any indication of a dislike of either graphics or story. He simply says that the continued path of graphical upgrades and the sort of storylines that we're used to wouldn't do anything to expand the user base significantly.

Does anyone disagree with that? If so, then address it, but don't put words in someone's mouth that aren't being said.

"why not release a little more each time and see if they still go at the same rate."

Depends on the manufacturing footprint. Ideally each factory runs at capacity at all times to maximize profits. You can massage things a bit to increase numbers, but you're talking about a 10% increase or so, and then you have to expand your facilities. If you have to do that, then it takes months and is extremely costly. Any reasonable person would have expected demand to slow in the...

"You made over 60 million gamecubes, sold only 24 million of them..."

Wanna provide a source for those production numbers?

And if they did, then, if I were a stockholder, I'm sure I would have encouraged them to double their level of production and lose even more of my money this gen.

Come on, you really think that any business would sell 21 million (more accurate number) of their previous model in 5 years (on pace for production of 4 mil...

I've never voice-chatted in a game before, but just watching vids of the taunts and such pretty much assures me that I won't be doing much in the future.

"because it is what the majority of gamers and critics/reviewers believe. The sales also proves this."

1. Belief is subjective.

2. Sales don't mean much. By that standard Britney and Justin are TEH GREATESTEST MUSICS EVAR!!!!1!!!1

:) You're free to believe it. You're also free to state your opinion. But we're all free to not accept anyone's statements/beliefs/opinion as fact.

"but i dont see that happening with blu ray toshiba is in the minority in the industy they have to stop the bleeding sometime. i know stockholders dont want to see the Q4 fiscal report

heres a preview
we pushed out 90,000 HD DVD players one week
and we made -$100 on each one. "

It's funny to me how people shake their heads at Toshiba selling HDDVD players at a loss when the most popular BR player is and has been sold at a significant loss ...

"And THIS is why Japan doesn't matter"

Yep, and every market that has much smaller first day sales on occasion than Halo 3's first day sales doesn't matter.

Seriously, I hope you're joking. If not, then let's see if FF13 is pocket change.

(Just FYI, FFVIII sold 2.21 million copies, certainly short of Halo 3's 2.83 million copies, but much less hyped and in a much, much smaller market. So your comment is just patently ridiculous. Final Fan...

Meh, Nights and the others may still do alright.

You do have to take other sales into account. There are only so many dollars out there, so if they spent $80 or whatever on WiiFit last week, it may take a bit for the cash reserves to build up for the next game...

I also wonder what Nights' promotion is like over there. Seems like, at least here, that a lot of the good third party Wii games are not being promoted well. I don't know if it's a function of wanting t...

"but infinitely more options and features that outdo wii."

I'm not sure you or the Sony chairman know what the word means but I suspect both of you do and are just being obtuse.

As it is, "infinitely more" is a redundancy. If something is infinitely fun or has infinite features then that's it. You can't then say that the wii has x amount of features or x amount of fun then say that the ps3 has that (x amount) plus infinitely more. If you add t...

Wow... great title:

"I think that if the progress of the Blu-ray format continues, Paramount will have to come back."

The title should be "Pocket-lint chats with Sony: Sony exec says Paramount will have to come back if we continue to do well."

So basically the title misquoted a speculative assertion as both truth and the most important part of the article. Which is sad, since it's interesting by itself. But I guess that gains ya...

If anything, they've been hit and miss on adoption, not innovation.

I remember wanting those little portable tv walkmans in the late 80's so bad. A lot of their products have been fab ideas, Beta/Trinitron displays/3.5" discs/Minidisc all come to mind. A few failed due to draconian controls (Minidisc/Memory Stick) and some due to price (like the little TV portables I mentioned), but overall they've done alright.

KingME, I'm honestly curious, do you believe then that the 360 has a reasonable chance of winning in Japan?
