You seem to forget Wii U launched in Japan in December 2012. It's been on the market there for >15 months. It's been through 3 holiday seasons in Japan(2012, 2013, 2014). The PS4 has only had 1 holiday in comparison. Not to mention the Wii U software linup up till now, is, without argument, better geared towards the Japanese audience. Yet it seems to be losing steam going into 2015. Interest is waning, while the opposite is true of the PS4.
You also ignore the fact...
I guess I'm finally gonna get my hands on FFXIV. Loved the Beta, but just couldn't justify the subscription model.
15$ is a great deal!
EDIT: Oh and if you haven't already, jump on that 30$ GCU deal. 20% off new games and a possible 10$ gift certificate on pre-orders, effectively making most AAA games like Dying Light 38$ on release day. If the game happened to be broken or bad you could sell it for a PROFIT.
To be fair, it doesn't take that much to dominate the Japanese console market this generation. PS4's nearest competitor, the Wii U, is duking it out with Sony's 8 year old console while 3rd place is gunning for the title as the "Worst Selling Console in Japan, EVER".
So yes, put in its own bubble, PS4 is dominating in Japan. It's more than doubling the sales of its competitors.
Amazon has been nearly 100% accurate for NPD this generation. It's only fault being December 2013(but that was due to stock issues). February NPD is looking much the same even with XB1 sticking to 349$ for the whole month. That is until The Order 1886 makes its debut, further accelerating PS4's momentum.
Seems like we are in for another multi-month sweep for the PS4. XB1's next chance will come in October/November with Halo/CoD/TR XB1 bundles or a slim model at E3...
You are quite the pessimist :l
The PS4 is the only console pulling decent February numbers. And I wouldn't call DQH, GE2, The Order, or Bloodborne "massive". As of now, all the PS4 has gotten is Med-tier to Low-tier games: westerns, ports, spinoffs, and niche titles. Massive would be a mainline Dragon Quests, Monster Hunters, Pokemon, Tomadochi Life, Yokai Watch, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid... Those are some of the games that still carry enough weight to pus...
For me it depends on if SCEA decides to put out an Uncharted 4, MGS, FFXV, or Batman limited edition PS4.
So yeah, I'm probably getting another PS4 this year ;)
The 2015 lineup (and TLOU of course) are enough to consider the PS4 in 2015. Here's my 15 for 15' list. Mostly exclusive with some historically Playstation-centered multiplats (In no specific order).
1) Uncharted 4: A Thief's End
2) Bloodborne
3) MLB 15: The Show
4) Persona 5
5) Ratchet and Clank Remake
6) Tomorrow Children
7) No Man's Sky
8) Until Dawn
9) Disgaea 5
10) The Last of Us Rema...
Great deal, especially with devs moving focus to newer consoles.
275$ (PS4 + TLOUR) + 60$ (The Order/The Show) + 60$ (Bloodborne) = ~399$
One of the better offers you will find, at least until holiday 2015.
Although, personally, I would keep my PS3 because PS+ garuntees I always have games to play on it.
It's not so much about "how much" but moreso "how efficient". As dev tools mature and Sony themselves free up more RAM, games will run, look better, and some will be larger in scope. So R@D were probably using most resources, just not efficiently. Uncharted1 vs. TLOU or Bioshock are good examples (Although I think this generation won't have that much of a jump in quality).
Majora's Mask and Dragon Quest Heroes looking to have huge opening weeks this month. FFXV and Persona will carry PS4 this year, it seems. Bloodborne, Yakuza and MGS will keep things steady until they arrive. Anticipated Wii U games are looking sparce this year. XCX and TLoZ are shaping up to be standout games games, however.
Last generation vs. current generation(and PC) or 512MB memory vs 8GB+ memory to be more specific. Which one would have more space for sounds, graphics, physics and effects?
A sound/graphics face-off between recent track racers like DriveClub or Forza Motorsport 5 would have been more 1:1 than this.
Far Cry wasn't the main factor for the increase in PS4 sales in Japan. People are gearing up for Dragon Quest and God Eater, both of which release later this month. I'm betting both games have a chance at selling near 400k (PS3+PS4 for DQH and PS4+Vita for GE2).
He is refering to Japan. PS4 launched early 2014 in Japan and sold its first million by the end of the year.
SEGA just recently layed off staff in preparation for an all mobile/PC life. SEGA isn't the best company to own studios putting out high quality console games at the moment.
State your allegiance or risk death by disagrees!
(BTW I'm a Dreamcast fan)
The thing is there is no "potentially", at least based on the current trends. PS4 currently has near 50% marketshare and is almost 10m more sold-in than its nearest competitor and is nearly tripling the other. All in a little more than a year's time on the market.
Cutting the price on a product that, at this point, sells on namesake alone worldwide would only be counterproductive. What would come back to haunt them would be cutting the price prematurely and deva...
First AMD states PS4 + XB1 is nearing 30m and now Take Two states over 29m install base for the two combined. All signs are pointing toward XB1 being above 10m. XB1 is doing well. Keeping pace with PS3 and 360 launch aligned.
About 15.7m shipped for 2014. That adds up to close to 20m total. Impressive indeed. Only a year and a couple months in and PS4 is already 1/4 the total that took the PS3 8+ years to build.
And nice for Sony as a whole. Back in the black despite the mobile division anchoring everything down.
PS4 version? Yes, please :)
I'll take my SAO anyway I can get it. Anime, Manga, PS4, Vita...
Maybe they will pull a 2game bundle. An adventurer's bundle: Uncharted 4: A Thief's End + The Order 1886 for 299$-399$(Not sure on prices this holiday). That probably won't be the only bundle but it will drawn in the most sales.
I'm guessing it would act in a similar way to what Xbox's Unity bundle did. People are drawn in by free Uncharted 4 and see The Order as a freebie both at no extra cost. Offer this bundle in America, which moved nearly 2.0m+ conso...
