The thing is, if they were going to do it, it needed to happen across the board or not at all. Either $70 needs to be the standard price for AAA games, or it needs to be $60. Because now there are people (many of them on here) who refuse to buy $70 games when some are still $60. However, there are inevitably going to be people who look at anything launched under $70 as being "budget" and thus not worth their time (just as there were people last gen who wouldn't buy any game that...
I remember a dev during the PS3 era (I think it was maybe a Dead Space dev, but I could be wrong) saying that demos hurt game sales more frequently than they helped. This is definitely a an example of a demo helping, though. I thought Outriders was DOA, and while it doesn't look like a major hit, it at least seems to have a decent community.
True. I don't even hate 8 like everyone else does, but they still will never "count."
Haha yeah this might change my mind on picking it up while it's cheap.
Lol nevermind, the sale I saw is over. I'll wait and see.
One thing that has been lost in all of the "MS is going to stop putting Bethesda games on Playstation" is that Switch is going to lose one of its best third-party supporters. Not that it's going to affect them with the first party games being so strong, but it is disappointing after seeing how good Bethesda ports on Switch have been.
@Army_of_Darkness
Good for you. My point is that a lot of people who stick with old consoles are more casual users and are not going to be aware of anything outside of the mainstream. You could replace "Warzone" with Fifa, Madden, or Fortnite.
Lol the issue all over the world. Sure, you can't walk into a Target in the middle of the day and expect to buy a PS5, but if you are paying attention online, opportunities come up all the time. Admitt...
But the people who aren't moving to current gen and are just using their PS4 as a Warzone/Netflix machine won't have even heard of Dying Light, and they certainly won't buy it. This game is going to tank on last gen platforms. The install base argument has always been wrong, and it's wrong again here.
I agree that chart position isn't as good as numbers, but we don't have digital numbers, so charts are the best we can do. Those numbers you cite are UK physical sales (which alone refute the notion that games sell better on the older, larger install base), so that is part of the picture, but we can see by looking at the digital charts and the fact that Hitman 3 sold well below some very old games that it did not do well digitally on PS4. So the idea that it sold half as well as the P...
Outside of super mainstream games (like RE is mainstream, but I'm talking about COD/Madden/Fifa mainstream), sales of new games on old consoles drop off once new consoles are out, even disproportionate to the number of people who have moved on to the new console.
Gran Turismo 6 is a great example of this. It came out just after PS4 launched, so at a time when PS3's install base was almost to its total and barely anyone had PS4s yet. Despite that, the game still sold...
On PS4 it was number 17 on the US PSN chart in January, and didn't chart at all in Europe, while on PS5 it was number 2 in both regions.
And you would do that because making the move to be true PS5/Series X/S game will get a greater amount of hype around the game, and make it sell better on those platforms. People still talk about Dead Rising--whidh was never better than mediocre--becasue the first one came out only on 360 even when the PS2 had a massive install base. ...
Ugh. Why hold this game back for consoles where it isn't going to sell? And no "but the install base" and "115 million" don't matter. Look at how Hitman 3 bombed on PS4 compared to PS5. And this one will worse because even more people have moved over to PS5 now.
I mean, they are obviously a better developer than any of the Bethesda devs, but the value of the Bethesda deal was the IP Bethesda owned. Insomniac owned very few significant IP when Sony bought them (because Sony already owned most of them).
I hope that's what it is. I mean, I'd prefer not to have them at all, and just for gameplay to be balanced between classes and for skill to be the differentiator. But if they must have "abilities," I'd rather have it be increased reload speed or slightly improved endurance rather than "if you get four kills in a row, a magical helicopter will start flying above you and get more kills for you."
Yeah while I traditionally like PlayStation games to stay on Playstation, I think Dreams really makes sense on PC. I just think that most of the people who could really make Dreams take off typically spend their time on PC.
Because COD 4 ruined shooters.
People have gotten really lazy with the sales narrative around Battlefield because they didn't like the marketing for V. BFV sold over 7 million copies in less than six weeks. It was still a disappointment compared to the sales of BF1 and compared to their expectations (which as you say is to be a viable COD competitor), but a game that almost certainly sold over 10 million in its first year, if not its first six months, can hardly be considered "niche."

COD 4 ruined multiplayer shooters. Unfortunately now a massive segment of the potential market for a game like Battlefield has ingrained into their minds that shooters need to have a "progression" system where guns are artificially locked away behind a certain amount of time playing. People don't even understand the concept of playing a game for the challenge of it or because a game is fun to play. It's a slightly different scenario, but Destiny 2 has run into this recently ...
New term "Worthless cash cow." But yeah BF1942 was the best. Still among the best multiplayer shooters ever made, and blissfully free from the stupid gun leveling system that has infected nearly every FPS since COD 4.
"Players will have abilities like COD's perks."
Please no. No, no, no. I don't want magical things to happen if I get a certain number of kills or deaths. Give me good maps, good gunplay, and destructability.
Looks interesting. Was holding my breath for them to eventually get to the point where they said it was an always online multiplayer game launching on every platform imaginable. Quite happy to hear it's a true singleplayer exclusive for PS5.
