Honestly I think the excitement for Bethesda was genuine just because their first party had been so stagnant. However there is a lot of that spirit when it comes to PlayStation losing exclusives. Like in the early 360 gen when a lot of series that had been largely exclusive to PlayStation in the PS2 era started announcing that the new iterations would be multiplatform (I.e. devil may cry, final fantasy) there was a ton of gloating. Then the 360 people didn't even buy these games. A simila...

Lol they just need to slot the BF3 class system in. We know it is already functioning in the game's engine from the leak of the Portal stuff last week. Just put that in and used the operator skins as cosmetics (I mean it would be better to remove them completely but that's wishful thinking).

Cut short? BFV got new maps for almost two years. That's quite typical for BF games, and actually longer than most of the older ones were supported. BF has never been a F2P style game with unending "seasons." It's always been the launch content and a few sets of map packs.

Some people will want to die on the hill that the old controls were better, but they clearly were not. That's one thing that largely gets overlooked in discussions about how great old games used to be. Even though controllers have been about 90% the same since the Dualshock launched (ignoring Nintendo anyway), controls have vastly improved and become far more standardized. Before about the midpoint of the PS3 gen, it was hit or miss whether a game would just have unnecessarily wonky contr...

I really enjoyed the remaster of the first game, but it is a shame they squandered the opportunity to take advantage of PS5 and Series X with native versions.

Yeah. I have it. But I don't understand how it relates to the difference in sales between PS5 and PS4, lol.

And yet the next time I say that an upcoming game will sell better on PS5 than PS4, a bunch of people will continue to ignore all available data and say "but of course it will sell more on the bigger install base!"

What about Switch?

Yes, always do both. Because if you only vote with your wallet, the company will always learn the wrong lesson. "Oh people didn't buy this game. I guess it needs to be even more casual and mtx-focused than our last attempt."

This is what helped with the Battlefront II controversy. Enough people held off buying that, despite its still high absolute sales, it missed EA's sales projections (which is the thing that actually matters), but we were also vocal eno...

I don't understand why more publishers aren't looking at the different fates of Spiderman 2018 and Avengers and learning a lesson. Both had a massive IP, but one strove to give fans exactly what they wanted, while the other chased every monetization trend from the past five years. Result? The game that gave people what they wanted was a massive hit and highly profitable (it continued to chart for two years after release) and the game chasing trends lost a ton of money and has now beco...

It seems like this is specifically targeted at the "I want my shelf to look good" crowd.

Except physical deals only got so good in the last ten years when digital became prominent. In the early to mid PS3 gen, even used game prices would stay absurdly high for years. I remember going to GameStop back in those days and seeing old games for $45 still. The sales of new copies of 8 month old games for $20 at places like Target didn't happen until PSN also started having so many sales where relatively recent games get good price drops.

So I'm not denying tha...

Unfortunately, largely because of COD in the late 2000s, people look at progression systems and grinding as a feature of games, rather than a negative. I have plenty of friends now (I'm sure we all do on here) who wouldn't even play a multiplayer game unless they are "working towards" something. The idea of playing a multiplayer game because it's fun has largely been lost.

Well you are the exception (almost by definition given the relative playerbases of those games). Hell Let Loose is hardcore. Far more hardcore than any battlefield game has ever been.

But the point is people flocked to those games (Surge and MW) while BFV's sales missed expectations. The narrative around Siege is also bafflingly positive considering what the game is. Having been a fan of older games in the series, I checked it out, and it is horrible. But it doesn't...

Interesting how non-modern Battlefields aren't "real" Battlefield games for so many of the supposed true fans of the series, even though the first game in the series was a WWII game. Of course most of the these people apparently think the series started with Bad Company 2, so it's not too surprising.

Well, maybe because they delivered a standard battlefield experience 3 years ago, which, while not without some issues, was not even close to the disaster everyone acts like it was. Dice has spent 3 years seeing people praise Rainbow Six Siege and COD:MW at the expense of the BF. Is it any surprise they made alterations to be more like those games?

Lol it's been really amusing seeing so many people who purport to be battlefield fans complain about teal color used in the UI, etc, unknowingly outing themselves as never having played BF3 or BF4. Same thing with all the complaints about how teammates and enemies are designated by orange or blue indicators above their heads.

It would be really nice if they would just switch back to classes or even make the different loadout kits more binding on what you can and can't equip.

Lol I love all the people on here still trying to justify their hate for BFV and not realizing that we have specialists now because of all the people who blasted BFV and went and played Rainbow Six: Siege and COD instead.

But also know that the AI is worse and they've cluttered the game up with many of the unnecessary developments of multiplayer games from the last decade (i.e. a currency system, a hub world, a card system, etc.). If you have a PC, you are definitely better off just playing L4D2 on steam, which still has dedicated servers.

Also it will feel like L4D if you haven't played L4D in about 5-10 years and you have vague memories of it. If you've played on PC in the pas...
