PS5 version outsold the PS4 version more than 3-1.
I was wondering if this is going to feel like Shadow of War at launch where the game felt designed around pushing you toward MTs. I haven't played it, but I've heard the most recent Tales game was like that as well.
Can't wait for a game that's "like Elden Ring with guns" or a game that's "like Splinter Cell meets Elden Ring" or "the Elden Ring of platformers."
@zacfoldor
"Maybe it will replace BotW talk in every review for every open world game. Thought of that yet?"
Uhh well that's pretty much what I just said was going to happen, so yes, I thought of that. It sounds stupid and annoying.
Unfortunately we are going to constantly be hearing about Elden Ring in every article about every other game from all the Souls cult writers. It's going to the the new "it's like [insert game from a relevant genre] meets Dark Souls" or "it's like Skyrim with guns." Strap in, it's going to be an annoying few years.
Exactly, and that is being hailed as a triumph considering how light sales in Japan are. Normally it's almost all Switch games in the top 20 on weekly/monthly charts in Japan.
Considering the lower overall sales and the fact that tastes/behaviors are generally different there, it's not nearly as useful data to extrapolate from as the UK, which provides a much better sample of Western purchasing habits (obviously there are exceptions like Madden where you can't ...
You mean the region where console games sell the least?
Well, if you look at UK numbers on a weekly basis, Xbox numbers tend to be down even relative to Xbox's smaller install base there. The assumption is that people pass on certain games either because they may come to GP later or because they are focused on games that are on GP.
The major caveat to this reasoning is that it obviously will not apply to tentpole releases like Elden Ring. There are always going to be a few games people won't wait for, but that doesn'...
PS5 outsold PS4 more than 3-1. So much for the PS4 install base buying new games in large numbers.
The problem is the existence of all these unnecessary modern gaming systems like the "progression" system. L4D2 is so great to play still because you don't have to worry about all that nonsense of what level you are, how much of a currency you have, and what guns you have unlocked. It's just a great game that you can jump into anytime without dealing with all that unnecessary nonsense. Not every game needs to be Destiny or Borderlands.
This. I've heard that Bloodbourne and Sekiro kind of fix this issue a bit, but Demon's Souls on PS3 was so clunky.
Yeah, a game with a much lower metacritic score and far more people giving it middling reviews. And an occasional character model glitch is undesirable, but much less disruptive to gameplay than a constantly janky framerate. Especially since Horizon is not really a game that depends on precise timing like Elden Ring (at least the first one wasn't, I haven't played the new one).
Your point doesn't make any sense. You are refuting an argument I did not make. I never said a game that has a stable framerate should automatically get a 10. I only said that a game with a janky framerate like Elden Ring should not get such high scores.
Honestly it's really telling about Fromsoft's fans that they prefer to ignore the flaws in Fromsoft's games and get mad at the people who point them out rather than expecting a stable release.
Perhaps not in certain aspects. But running at a reasonably stable framerate is an expected part of a AAA game release at this point. Just because your world/lore/combat etc are good does not excuse your game from meeting basic performance standards.
Lol any other game that runs as poorly as Elden Ring would never get scores like this.
Lol the PS5 version outsold the PS4 version more than 2-1, even with the PS4 version being cheaper and coming with a free upgrade to the PS5 version (meaning that many of the PS4 sales were really for PS5 and so the numbers are actually inaccurately skewed towards PS4).
It's nice to have this confirmed in digital numbers, because whenever I point to the UK physical charts to show that the current gen version of a game is outselling the last gen version and that the inst...
Imagine if Dying Light 2 or Horizon Forbidden West had inconsistent performance modes like this on the PS5 and Series X. It would have been one of the primary topics in every review, and it absolutely would have shown up in the review scores.
The problem is that a lot of the exact same people who talk about a "Nintendo Bump" or "Nintendo Boost" for review scores have exactly the same blindspot for anything Fromsoft releases.
@SullysCigar
Sometimes people actually do use discretion, they are just maddeningly inconsistent about it. For instance, people held off from buying the most recent Ghost Recon (Breakpoint or something like that) and it was a commerical failure. However as you said, Assassin's Creed continues to sell, and Rainbow Six Siege somehow gets a pass (and even gets praised as an example of a great shooter) when it seems obviously designed around selling MTs-more so than a lot o...
If you can send a link to reliable weekly sales charts for Earth, with percentage breakdowns by platform, I'll stop relying on these.
