Unfortunately I don't think a multiplayer game can succeed on a broad scale without being structured as a live service. People don't like the terms "live service" or "games as a service," but if you ever look at the complaints people have about games, it's clear that's what they actually want. Look at Halo Infinite; great gameplay, and a solid batch of maps; 15 years ago it would have been considered great, but now because they aren't churning trashy ne...
Yep, when devs rely on the "well it's on PS4 and therefore can be played on PS5" this far into the generation, it's not a good sign.
Apparently younger kids (i.e. like middle school, early high school age) are super into it right now. At least that's what my teacher friends say.
No, I'm just pointing out that voting with your wallet has consequences, and people need to learn to accept them.
Sony put out the PS3 with full hardware BC and people didn't buy it, so they removed it to cut the price. Now those same people whine about the limited BC on PlayStation.
People bought COD or Battlefield in 2016 instead of Titanfall 2, but now they whine about Respawn moving away from the series.
I'm just saying ...
@IanTH
I hope you are correct, but my main concern is that Elden Ring is going to eat Horizon's tail, basically. Obviously it had strong launch week sales (although Sony has been deafeningly quiet about numbers, which is not encouraging since they like to brag about big launches), but I'm concerned it's going to lose a lot of those week to week sales to Elden Ring.
I'm sure it will still sell millions of copies, but if it sells less in its...
If you don't care about Sony making games for their own platform, my comment isn't directed at you.
People do care though. First party games are a big reason people buy Nintendo systems. One of the big complaints on the Xbox One was that MS didn't make enough quality games during that generation. You may not care, but for a lot of people first party games are a big part of the decision of what console they buy.
Resistance sold well, but always got outsold by COD and Battlefield. Eventually Sony just decided to rely on third parties for FPSs. Obviously this is just one instance and won't change Sony's entire strategy, and maybe Elden Ring will be a once in a generation game, but people just need to be aware that their decisions have ramifications.
Like they say, "vote with your wallet." And we just voted for Sony to rely on third parties more and to invest less in high quality first party single player games.
Gosh unless you are trolling, you really don't understand how percentages work. No one said those percentages of the install base for each console bought the game. Those are the percentages of the game's launch sales that were on each platform. Literally the entire point is that only a tiny fraction of the PS4's install base is actually buying these games, so that it isn't worth continuing to limit these titles for those few people.
I think you forgot about scalability.
78% of GT7 sales are on PS5 compared to 22% on PS4. That's a ratio of about 3.5-1. But hey, we can't leave 115 million behind, right?
@ChubbyBlade
Like I said, there are actual instances where it's just a defect. Sounds like that's what you had. I'm just saying that a lot of people treat their stuff like crap, and that's how they get problems. The two issues aren't even necessarily mutually exclusive. Like the RROD on 360 was obviously a design defect issue, but how many American teenagers ended up with a red ring years sooner than it naturally would have occurred because they kept the...
You probably don't treat your stuff like garbage. While I know there are legitimate cases where the stick drift is a defect (on Joy Cons particularly), I'm convinced that much of it stems from how people treat their stuff (i.e. leaving the controller face down on the couch where their 4 large dogs routinely jump, throwing it in a bag with a bunch of other things). It's amazing how people will treat products they spent tons of money on. Look how many people with $500+ phones have s...
An endless arcade mode is what I've wanted for Returnal since it launched.
Considering almost everything they are announcing is coming to PS4 as well as PS5, I'm glad there was nothing major announced. If games are still going to be pointlessly gimped for a 2013 CPU in 2023, then I hope the games I really care about won't come out until later.
Lol I wouldn't believe Pacter if it was flooded outside and he told me it had been raining.
Keep doing it. As long as a lot of people are buying physical, Sony will keep doing price drops and major sales on PSN. And then those sales and price drops will push retailers to do sales as well.
I hope this is true. I'm all digital on all platforms, but I want some people to keep buying physical. The literal 50/50 split we have seen with some games on PS5 recently is perfect. The two groups need each other. When everything was physical (or at least before all games had digital versions), game prices stayed high forever. In the PS3 gen, major games would stay $60 forever, and you were lucky if you could get them for $45 used. When target would do buy 2 get one free, I'd agoniz...
If you can send a link to reliable weekly sales charts for Earth, with percentage breakdowns by platform, I'll stop relying on these.
I'd love this. The problem is, most people wouldn't. The community would be whining on Reddit within a few weeks about the "lack of support" because there aren't new maps or enough weekly challenges to keep them "engaged."
The sad reality is that people want their games to be a live service, they just don't like the term "live service."
