Another victimised XBox fan. I'm going to create a support group!

I guess you're using the Snap feature to post on N4G, as otherwise shouldn't you be playing rather than posting???

Why not Resogun?

Looks like an awesome title. It's really starting to annoy how so called gamers are dismissing Indie and the smaller downloadable titles.

It takes just as much effort and skill for a tiny team to make a 1080p/60fps Indie game as it does a huge team making a AAA.

We're all supposed to be gamers here - as long as the resolution and fps doesn't detract form the GAME experience, who cares!! I'm much more concern...

Exactly. Many games don't benefit from 60fps. Turn based games, slow paced RPG's. I'd rather see 30fps and lots of eye candy than 60fps and less glitz - depending on the game.

FPS and Racing games should always be 60fps.

Games development is all about tradeoffs.

Do you target 1080p @ 60fps, or do you add more effects / bells and whistles.

You can have both if you have excess GPU power to burn, but it seems clear that with launch titles most devs decided on trying to max the bells and whistles over resolution / frame rate.

The PS4 came closest to offering both, so I hope that this is a sign that once devs get really familiar with the console we will see 1080p/...

I haven't got a PS4 yet (roll on the 29th), but on PC I have been playing far more Indie games over the last 24 months than big AAA stuff.

There's so much more variety, innovation and risk taking going on in the Indie scene - and usually the games are cheap!

To discount Indie games is foolish. It's not all about the flashy graphics!

I didn't realise XBox fanboys were such sensitive creatures. I find their 'OH how we're so bullied by those mean Sony fans' hilarious and far more annoying than the aggressive Sony fanboy 'greatness awaits' crap.

Both Sony and MS are as good/bad as each other, and all this smack talk is just harmless banter.

The top brass of MS and Sony have already come out and congratulated each other. These social media potshots are just for fun. ...

That's an interesting point. I hadn't considered that.

During the last console gen it was obvious it had a huge impact on PC gaming, and I can only see that increasing this gen.

From my limited knowledge, the TOSLINK bus that SPDIF uses has less bandwidth than HDMI.

SPDIF does something like 96KHz at 20bit / 24bit
HDMI does 8 channel uncompressed at up to 192KHz / 24bit

The original HDMI 1.0 standard was atrocious for audio, but with each update it has got better and better. HDMI 1.3 really gave a boost to audio with support for uncompressed audio, and both consoles support HDMI 1.4.

Both types of connection...

I thought SPDIF couldn't carry uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1? TrueHD and DTS-MA lossless and a couple of other formats are HDMI only aren't they?

Not entirely sure why you'd go 100% SPDIF over HDMI when it supports less formats. Maybe if, for some reason, you had to do a long run between devices you might go SPDIF optical, but you can get HDMI fibre cables anyway.

Yeah, agree tigertom53. But for those who have switched to HDMI only AV setups, or want the convenience of not having to mess with additional cables - this is very annoying.

What compounds it is MS' stance that the XB1 is some all-in-one entertainment box that integrates seamlessly in to your existing setup. That is not the case. After the Eurogamer article where they confirmed the XB1 does not support Freeview or Sky in the UK, and now this - it's really disappoin...

Is my understanding correct...

Lets say you have TV box connected to your AV receiver / surround speakers via HDMI which outputs to TV (also via HDMI).

If you introduce the XB1 and daisy chain the TV box to the XB1 to take advantage of the XB1's TV features, which then outputs to the AV receiver... then you no longer get surround sound from the TV box output?

Or if you connect a PS4 to the XB1 and then to AV Receiver / speakers to TV, the...

The Eurogamer article / review stated they tried connecting other consoles through the HDMI passthrough and found it introduced noticeable latency.

Yeah it's a real bitch when company's want to fix stuff! And how ridiculous that they added a feature that downloads those improvements and fixes in the background.

PS3 never had weekly updates, and although when they did happen they were more intrusive for non PS+ owners they were never a big deal

One thing that I was wondering... If an XB1 owner pipes voice over external speakers (rather than through headset) could someone they are playing against troll them by shouting XBox Off?

4592d ago 0 agree2 disagreeView comment

I think you're probably right.

The fact that the XB1 doesn't support Sky OR Freeview boxes seems to cut out the vast majority of TV watchers in the UK.

I don't envy MS having to make each console compatible with different countries services and systems - but I would have thought they would have been further along in the key territories.

I assume if you're connected to the internet this update will download in the background?

Does anyone know at what point it installs? Automatically at next reboot, or does it need a user prompt?

Just interested in how it works as I don't have my PS4 yet.

Amazon.co.uk have a statement on their site saying that any orders after August 7th will get a PS4 before Xmas, but not on launch day. Also, any orders after November 14th will get consoles after Xmas.

I think supply is very much outstripped by demand.

Yeah, when you sell a million consoles and have a 1% failure rate those 10,000 kids will be disappointed. But as that's well within industry expectations (between 3 and 5% failure rate) it's just an unfortunate thing.

I may be old fashioned, but I've always preferred tray or lid based disc drives. These slot drives annoy me for some reason.

I have a YLOD PS3 in my cupboard with a copy of Star Wars Force Unleashed 2 stuck in it. I never bothered retrieving the game as I figured it deserved to be buried with the dead PS3...

Interesting article and answered some of my concerns as a UK gamer. Nothing about the article changed my opinion to wait and see how the services and game releases develop before deciding whether to buy one.

The lack of SKY TV integration is a big minus to me. The UI doesn't sound as good as MS made it out to be. It seems MS know their core market is the US and have focused 80+% of their efforts there. Understandable, as Europe may be as big of a market as NA - but it...
