I can kinda see what they are doing, but it is still ridiculous.

I don't see why they can't email a code for a digital download on day 1, while the person waits for this lot of stuff to turn up.

Not that I am aware of, but it would be interesting.

I seem to recall way back before the 360 launched that MS said that the community could create and sell content. It never materialised, but it was a good vision.

People are making good money from producing virtual items in stuff like Team Fortress 2 on PC - a similar model for XB1 / PS4 would be pretty cool, and scaled up to full Spark games would be awesome as long as the marketplace was handled correctly...

I normally wouldn't argue with Batman :), but...

Developers implementing more destructible environments sounds much more 'next gen' to me than simply higher res / more impressive graphical effects.

And whilst I know very well the additional effort this would take, my view is that if this gen wants to be remembered as something other than the 'previous gen with better graphics' it needs to do much more.

If I had a choice be...

I really hope the sequel to inFamous SS has much more destructible environments.

That would really elevate the game and make the player feel more super powered.

I suppose it takes us in to the unknown and allows Rocksteady to do some interesting things. The standard Batman villains are a bit predictable by now so something fresh is welcome.

Why should it only be the domain of the comics to add in new characters?

Rocksteady have proved they are good stewards of the Batman videogame universe, and are working closely with DC.

It's exciting and ground breaking (for Batman) to add in a brand new character.

Good luck to them. I like the direction they are taking with Planets Cubed, but I don't know if it does enough to shake of the Minecraft-wannabe tag.

Maybe the Minecraft inspiration will actually be a detriment, as the game seems radically different from Vanilla Minecraft, but the first impression is that it's yet another clone / evolution.

Vr (and OR) doesn't need to primarily be a gaming platform to succeed, but it depends on your definition of success.

OR was advertised, marketed and sold to devs as primarily a gaming device / platform. If that changes from the influence of Facebook, then no matter what, it will be seen as a failure by a lot of people who supported the original company / Kickstarter campaign or feel that Oculus just positioned themselves to encourage a buy out.

I'm n...

Nope. When you Kickstart something you are just donating money. You are not buying anything or investing in anything. You have almost zero rights.

In fact I think KS terms and conditions prohibit people from starting projects where the people pledging are getting a stake / shares in the company.

Even if the company / person running the KS project promise you something, like a perk, reward or physical product, if they don't deliver it can be a huge pain i...

I am taking the 'wait and see' approach to this, but with a healthy does of pessimism and scepticism

However, who among us would really have turned down 2billion dollars to stay independent?

Maybe, but these deals don't happen over night. They normally take months to negotiate.

So either Oculus / Facebook were doing a deal based on the rumour that Sony had a VR headset in the works, or had insider knowledge, or that Facebook just saw this as an opportunity completely unrelated to Sony.

The amount of time Oculus has spent in Alpha, makes me think this was at least partially motivated by Oculus' need to get more money to take the Rift main...

VR as a market doesn't have to be primarily gaming focused, but Oculus WAS primarily aimed at gamers, and now we don't know if that will continue to the same degree.

The very first line on the Oculus Kickstarter was "Developer kit for the Oculus Rift - the first truly immersive virtual reality headset for video games."

That's why it was getting so much support from devs and excitement in the gaming community. We've seen one develope...

At the moment we're in the denial / knee jerk reaction stage of this Facebook / Oculus announcement.

When I first heard the sale went through I was pretty surprised, and the initial reaction was negative - purely on the basis that FB have bought other companies, and some of them have vanished or been re-purposed to take advantage FB's data collection, micro-transaction, advertising based model.

We shall see if this acquisition is beneficial or not. <...

There's loads of pros and cons to this deal.

To me, the biggest acid test for whether Facebook intend to make this primarily a gaming platform or not, is whether Carmack walks in the next 12 months.

Congrats. That is the most ridiculous wall of text I've read on N4G.

My particular highlight " I really don't want to sound like I'm trolling but I think Sony's problems is just karma coming back on their fan boys"

Wow. You really need to get out in to the real world more.

Anyone want to start taking bets on how long before Carmack leaves Oculus?

Considering all the IP Rare has (although not sure how much is owned by Nintendo), MS could be sat on a goldmine of good IP. why are they not using it properly (or at all)

Jet Force Gemini could easily have been a the Xbox competitor to Ratchet and Clank. Plus it would work perfectly as an online co-op game.

Banjo Kazooie needs to stick to platforming and take on Mario

Blast Corps was a very innovative and unique game. I'd love to see th...

As a new Vita owner, I was kinda surprised by the UI. I was hoping with the release of the PS4 they would align the Vita to the look and feel of the PS4.

The bubbles just seem a bit... outdated, to me.

In general this looks like a good update though.

I didn't hear any reports that people thought it would suck.

Unfortunately, for me, it did suck. I was very unimpressed. I know the boss battles were outsourced to another team and the developer was very disappointed with the results blah blah, but there were more problems with the game than that.
