Was Outcast really that much of a classic? I didn't think it was beloved enough to get a reboot. I barely remember it at all.
Right from the start this struck me as more of a vanity project by the original devs / IP owners. The thing that surprised me was that they managed to raise 250k. I would have happily backed an innovative spiritual successor - but all the innovative elements of the original game have been superseded in the last 15 years.
The MMO genre needs a shake up. It needs to do something more original than 'Get quest, go to point X, Kill Y, return'. It's not 'Quests' that are the problem, it's the generic and boring implementation of them.
I played the beta of Wildstar. Looks great, but is so generic that it doesn't matter how great the end game is, I'll never bother to get there. If this game had launched shortly after WoW came along, I'd have given it more credi...
The article should have mentioned the cost of the PC rig used.
If the rig cost 800-1000, I would happily trade the reduced detail in the PS4 version for the lower cost.
Overall the PS4 version was very very impressive.
I disagree izumo_lee
The Dreamcast was a phenomenal machine with loads of good IP on it.
There were many factors why the DC failed - but the quality of titles was not one of them.
The failure of the DC caused Sega to get out of the hardware business - since then they've managed to screw up their key IP.
Sega should jump on the bandwagon of releasing remastered HD versions of their old IP (similar to what Capcom have don...
At last! Some sensible comments.
I said the same thing yesterday. Kotick did not say 500million invested in Destiny, the game. He said invested in Destiny, the IP.
Big difference.
Sure, they are obviously going to invest a tonne in to marketing - they need to establish Destiny. But this money will enable Bungie to create two or three main titles, plus DLC. And IF Destiny fails - you will definitely not see a 500million sized hole in Activi...
You know nothing about how big business works.
It'll take Sony at least 2-3 years to get the ship back on an even keel.
Yes, they look in bad shape, and they are... The next Quarter results are going to look disastrous - But they are not slowly dying. They have done a lot of the difficult work now by spinning off the TV business and selling the PC division, plus streamlining a lot of areas - which is repairing the business.
What I can see...
I think we're more likely to see TLoU Remastered released before Uncharted 4.
Same with Halo 2 HD before Halo 5.
We are still too early in the life cycle for both consoles to have AAA games like that released. Sony / MS will want to maximise the install base. Year 2 looks far more likely.
Producing Halo 2 HD, and TLoU is cheaper / quicker than a new AAA release - so both will be a good stop-gap before the main events.
Less Tell, more Show please MS.
The single biggest reason I am holding off buying an XB1 is because I don't trust MS to support their consoles. I bought an Xbox for Morrowind and Halo...They ditched it after only 4 years. I bought a 360 on Day 1, and I thought it had a really good launch line-up, but after 2009 I never bought another game as there was nothing that really appealed.
I want more than 4 years use out of my consoles - so MS won't get my ...
Super Hexagon... When I hit 60seconds on that the first time, it was a great moment!!
Good luck Activision. They're taking a 'go big or go home' approach.
Destiny is a game I am excited about, and has the potential to really shake up the FPS genre.
500mill is a crazy amount of money, but it's not like it'll sink Activision if it flops.
Also, Kotick doesn't specifically state the 500mill is only for the one game...
He say's "If you're making a $500 million bet you can'...
Really? No way! MS are looking to improve their console??? And they are going to employ people to do so!? !Mind... Blown!
Right now, on the MS career site there's over 250 jobs listed worldwide that relate to 'Xbox'. Are we going to get a news story for each of those?
I see one role is for a Senior Games Producer... Someone should write an article 'New IP for XB1 in development'.
Slow. News. Day.
@Meltic
You make an interesting point. I recall when I first saw Uncharted, it looked phenomenal. Same for U2, U3 and TLoU... But it's amazing how quick things progress.
Looking back at U1 vs TLoU and the jump is pretty massive. I expect the same sort of jump from PS3 TLoU to PS4 TLoU.
Really? Tools that cost a few hundred are better than a free app?? You don't say!
Why would the average user, who just wants to mess around and post vids, buy a full featured editor and capture device? It's overkill.
If you're a 'professional' then yeah, spend a few hundred (although I would argue for the majority of people posting vids to YouTube, Sony Movie Studio is perfect) - but for the majority, a free app suffices.
I would just like them to get the TV functionality in non-US markets up to par with the US first. That would make the XB1 far more appealing to me.
The lack of proper integration with stuff like Sky and Virgin is a big negative in the UK. Makes most of the TV functions redundant to me. It makes the XB1 feel very much like a US-centric box, and reinforces one of my concerns with Xbox as a whole - that the device rarely gets the support it should (Original XBox abandoned aft...
Sony could bundle the PlayStation camera with Morpheus and get good results (not as good as with Kinect, but still solid).
If given the choice I would prefer a combination of PS Camera AND Move controllers for VR.
No.
Kinect is an integral part of Xbox now. To remove it at this stage would be a mistake.
Even if you don't like it, big deal! Ignore it. Put tape over the camera and muffle the mics so it can't 'spy' on you.
MS have already shown they will drop the price of the XB1 (indirectly by bundling TitanFall), and retailers must still be making a profit even when selling it for the same price as the PS4, so blaming Kinect for the pri...
Yeah, why not.
I won't buy, but for those who never played the games... Game on! Would be a nice introduction and set up for any proper next gen Mass Effect games.
No, that doesn't really make sense! :)
I really don't think MS will release a Kinectless version. It's far too integrated in to the console, and I think a lot of people would see it as MS admitting they got it wrong.
Also, by making it mandatory MS are not excluding any gamers and it encourages devs to use the features.
Like it or not, I think Kinect is here to stay
I picked this up on PC over the weekend. Got a cheap key from G2A.
I tend to alternate between 'Whoa, that was pretty cool', to 'This is just more of the same FPS crap everyone was blasting CoD for, but with robots and double jump'. I'd give it a strong 7/10
It definitely needs more modes. I don't really like the Burn Card idea - I'd prefer that they lasted an entire match. I have been impressed with the graphics, although scre...
Oh dear. I briefly watched someone playing this on Twitch. I honestly thought it was a Steam Greenlight early access, game - not a finished product!! The review credits the sound design - but in the 10minutes I spent watching I thought it was really annoying (the same snippet of 'scary' noise over and over).
I didn't realise Jessica Chobot wrote the story. I never found her particularity interesting on IGN either.
