I think people need to get more of a sense of humour
I don't agree.
No matter how much power you give a dev, they will use it all and then some.
Every game could hit 1080p/60fps IF the developer scaled back the effects / complexity, or they were given unlimited time and money to optimise and refine until they hit the goal.
LOCK IT! If you can't lock to 60 then lock to 30. Variable frame rate is pointless.
@The Truth... Your username is a real misnomer!
Everything I've read about Oculus and Morpheus points to both having strengths and weaknesses compared to the other... And as both are still prototypes it's impossible to say how they will compare in the final release.
What?
Before the Facebook buyout very few people in the general public knew who or what an Oculus Rift was!
I agree few know what Project Morpheus is, but Facebook didn't buy Oculus based on brand recognition - it was for the company and the tech. And I fully expect Facebook to rebrand the Rift for mass market launch.
I just couldn't reconcile the act of being an omnipotent, all powerful God, with game play mechanic of slowly unlocking cards that give powers, and finding stickers in chests to power up the cards.
It doesn't make sense.
Oculus rift is a product produced by a company. Facebook bought the company. There's no equivalent in Sony, as the team working on Morpheus is just a division of another department - not a separate entity to sell off.
Facebook could have bought the tech from Sony, or licensed it - but they would have had to set up their own division or sub-company to continue work on the tech. In terms of buying a bunch of employees from Sony to continue working on VR, it just wouldn...
If Zuck wanted Morpheus it is entirely more likely that Facebook would have licensed the tech, or partnered with Sony to produce branded hardware.
Buying Oculus made infinitely more sense than trying to buy Morpheus.
I wonder if Zuckerberg had the same sort of impulse purchase feeling I have when I get offered a cheese sample in the supermarket.
Me: "Wow! Cheese is awesome, I'll buy a block"
Zuckerberg: "Wow! Morpheus is awesome, I'll buy Oculus"
Yes... A completely unquantifiable word is the key to XB1 development at 1080p! /s
The word 'slightly' could mean something different to a team of 100 compared to a team of 10.
I would much rather have an interesting description of why it's slightly harder, and what they are doing to work around this.
Lazy dev
Should have used DX12
Didn't apply enough secret sauce during development
EDIT: If anyone buys this game I believe MS may guarantee that once the power of the clouds is unlocked the res will jump to 4k... allegedly
Yeah, good list... for some people.
I'm interested in maybe 2 or 3. Not enough (yet) to make me buy.
@barb
I know what you mean. 2-3 years waiting, and it's all over in 8 hours if you're lucky!
The world of MMO's needs a damn good shake up; and if it comes from Korea that's fine by me.
I played the Wild Star beta over the weekend... What a generic cookie cutter borefest that was. The graphics look like Ratchet and Clank mixed with WoW (very nice, but it all feels really familiar), and the entire game play was just so generic. Sure it had a couple of nice touches, especially around combat, but they were drowned in mediocrity everywhere else.
You think Morpheus will get much time at the presentation?
If Sony spend more than a few minutes on Morpheus, I think that would confirm an early 2015 release. I can't see that to be honest, so I was expecting E3 2015 to be all about Morpheus, and a late 2015 / early 2016 launch.
@Farsendor1
I'm hoping for Andrew House with maybe some support.
He's pretty interesting to listen to. Just wondering if he's too 'British' for E3! :)
Also hoping they allow Cerny to make a couple of announcements. I'm not sure about Shawn Layden, Tretton's successor. Can't recall seeing him speak in public before
... or maybe just roll out Kevin Butler again. :D
Have Nintendo even announced how much of a presence they will have at E3 this year?
I thought last year they didn't do a big show or keynote at the venue.
I am desperate to buy a WiiU - but Nintendo need to give me a few more reasons (and maybe a price cut) to convince me. Fingers crossed for E3
Yeah, completely agree.
Sony had an amazing E3 last year when it came to the hardware announcements. This year it needs to be all about the games.
I'm really looking forward to it... Just a bit of a shame Tretton won't be fronting the show; I liked his style.
We have absolutely no information to ascertain whether the game is in trouble or not. But considering ND have never released a bad game, I'm pretty sure Uncharted 4 is going to do all right!
Maybe ND have decided to push the game in a different direction, so are starting from scratch? (One of the voice actors from the U4 teaser has left the project as well).
In my opinion Uncharted 3 was a bit boring, and the stories have been pretty predictable. It'...
@NukaCola
Because games cost a lot, and people want to feel like they got their money's worth.
If people are happy with a 8-12 hour game they never play again, that's cool - to each their own.
I liked inFamous, but do think it was lacking some replayability and content compared to the previous games. Was still worth the money, but only just.
