Because MS stated repeatedly that the XB1 and Kinect were intrinsically linked.
It failed because removing it removes a unique selling point, and going back on their talk of how important Kinect was to XB1. In fact they even said at one point that the XB1 would not function without Kinect.
Choice is good for consumers, but if you are one of the people who choose Kinect are you honestly going to get the same level of support for that device as if it was manda...
Agree. This seems like MS's strategy a lot of the time...
They could stop a lot of the rumour and BS if they showed stuff (like secret sauce, power of the clouds, Kinect vital to XB1 etc), rather than keep talking about all this mythical stuff!
I've never owned a Kinect device - but I could see the potential for interesting use.
MS only have themselves to blame for not exploiting Kinect and making it a must-have device... Whether it was for controlling the console / TV, or in games - they never gave (most) people a reason to own it or like it.
The moment to moment game play is great fun. Even though I'm only lvl 30something, I like it. Not sure I'll play it long term, but for now it is the best multiplayer FPS I have.
The problem I have is that the matchmaking is bad. The lack of game modes is annoying. The framework around the game seems weak or rushed - I was expecting a lot more innovation with game modes etc.
Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2 is around $350
I can't see Sony pricing a peripheral for more than the console it is intended to work on.
I think $299 has to be the target price, with higher priced bundles that include Move / PS Camera.
Maybe... Probably :)
Depends on price, quality and support really.
Ideally Morpheus will also work on PC, as it stops me having to buy two headsets.
I always have this vision of Rare developers being locked in a basement and forced to code Kinect games. Surely that explains their inability to hire top talent!!
It's the only explanation when you compare their humorous quirky pre-MS output with everything they have produced since.
Interesting that when Rare lay off almost 10% of the workforce - it's 'new blood' and will 'ignite some fire'.
But when 3 people leave Naughty Dog it's a sign Sony are definitely going bankrupt, and that Uncharted 4 is doomed to fail!
If MS announced a new version of BlastCorps and a proper BanjoKazooie adventure game, I'd buy an XB1 immediately!
An online co-op version of Jet Force Gemini, and a sequel to Kameo; Yes Please!
Throw in a few XBLA style games, like reboots of titles from when they were called Ultimate Play The Game (always thought that was a weird name for a company!) - stuff like Tranz-Am or Knight Lore remade with better graphics and few modern twists would be immense (...
Yeah, I liked Jacks' presentations style and demeanour a lot.
I'm hoping Andrew House plays a bigger role this year.
This seems more like a move to remove competition and gain an established user base than because of an actual need for Twitch or it's technologies.
YouTube Live Events have not taken off at all from what I can see (in comparison to Twitch).
How long before Twitch is absorbed in to YouTube. Sure that may strengthen the backend (Twitch does need more capacity), but it also puts Twitch in to Google's walled garden. YouTube seems to be getting worse as ...
If you compare the video games industry to movies there's a lot of parallels.
The big summer blockbusters generate the income that allows riskier smaller movies to be made. It's the same in the video game industry. We need the AAA titles to be successful to allow publishers to take a few risks.
Look at EA - a company that was addicted to the yearly release cycle and rehashing old stuff. A few years back they toned this down, and we ended up with n...
It is an interesting discussion point...
I'm trying to find a reason why 360 owners would be more satisfied, and PS3 owners less with their respective consoles.
I think it actually boils down to two things...
Price and trust.
The XB1 cost more, so maybe the 360 owners were waiting for a price drop
MS made a lot of decisions around the XB1 that angered customers. Maybe 360 owners are waiting to see what h...
Last year it was all about the hardware - this year has to be mostly about the games, and a little about the services.
PSNow beta announcement for EU, and Rest of the World.
PSNow launch date and title list for US
New IP - lots of it for PS4 and with trailers / teasers
In game footage of announced titles (such as The Order and Uncharted 4)
Some time for Indies
Hopefully some really big announcements for Vita
This isn't about what EA are charging, it's about how sensible it is to remove the modes.
If it is intended to drive people to the Variety mode, then I can understand it to an extent.
However, my first reaction was 'What's the point'.
I think it's an interesting indicator of how popular TitanFall will be on PC. I have no idea what the player numbers are, but if they are cutting modes already, then it's not a good ...
I play on both PC and PS4. But I do struggle a bit with the PS4 controls. Not quite as fluid as the mouse and keyboard.
But it's still the best MMO on the market at the moment (imho), and cross platform play between PS3, PS4 and PC is great.
I think this more about parity.
If the PC version doesn't hide the game behind a paywall. And the PS4 version doesn't hide behind a paywall... Why should the XB1 version.
Especially with MS recently changing policy one what is / isn't behind the paywall - it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.
Considering I've heard very little, if anything, about problems with servers - I don't see how "better dedicated server su...
Ridiculous
THAT, would be awesome. Was just playing the original a few days ago - it still holds up well and had some nice ideas. With a top quality game engine, plus better squad AI and a bit of refinement - it could be a phenomenal game.
To be honest, I'd even settle for an HD remake!
Most people I know didn't want Kinect removed, they wanted an XB1 that didn't cost $499... And if that meant removing Kinect then they were OK with that.
The perfect situation would have been for MS to keep Kinect, but drop the price to compete with the PS4 - but I suspect from a balance sheet / stakeholder point of view that was impossible.
Also, the new Kinect-less bundle is horrible value in the UK compared to the Standard XB1 or TitanFall bundles...
