@Defender..

If Sony can sell the PS3 for $99 it'll see a serious spike in sales.

Between 2009 and 2012 Sony sold approx 20million PS2's after dropping the price to $99.

At the moment the price difference between PS3 and PS4 is not huge, so maybe people are more willing to save for longer and get the new tech?

@Baka-akaB

I completely agree.

It would have sent a stronger message, and been a more ballsy and aggressive move if they had simply cut the price of the full XB1 with Kinect bundle.

However, I suspect that if they did that the loss per console would have caused too much red ink to appear on the balance sheet, and the shareholders are already looking at the Xbox division to be spun off.

It will certainly be interesting to see how this move impacts the sales of XB1's, and whether there's a corresponding drop in PS4 sales. Especially in MS' traditionally strong core markets (US and UK)

What we have to remember is that in the last gen the PS3 was substantially more expensive than the 360 - and yet in world wide sales it beat the 360 almost every month. People wanted a PS3 despite the price - the same cannot be said for the XB1.

Shame the matchmaking is utterly terrible.

I'm only level 31, and it really isn't fun to end up facing a team packed with G7+'s, while I'm on a team where one person is G1 or 2, and the rest are sub lvl 40.

Happens more often than not. At best I can hope I get on team where everyone else is high G, and the opposition is noobs. But then the amount I contribute is really minimal in those situations.

The matchmaking balance suc...

I agree Volkama,

I have firmly been in the 'wait and see camp' for XB1. I felt burned after supporting Xbox and 360.

Now MS have once again shown they have very little strategy beyond 'lets make money'.

I know I'll still get an XB1 at some point in the future, but all the 180's are annoying. I was one of the few people who thought certain aspects of an always online console was appealing - but that all got ditched. ...

Price cut for PS3... definitely, not sure about Vita. What the Vita needs is more unique games.

Damage control and marketing.

They're not going to admit they are getting their backsides kicked by Sony at the moment.

That's also why every time they talk about XB1 sales figures they compare it to the 360 at the same point in time... Yet when the 360 was beating the PS3 (in the US) they made such a big thing about it, as if the US was the only territory in world.

Yes it's a double standard, and yes MS are the more guilty of it ...

Is this the real truefan1? Cus that's the most sensible comment I've seen from you!

I am not an XB1 owner yet, but I thought Kinect was a unique selling point. Now it's optional devs will definitely drop support.

Wow.

I only posted an hour or so ago in another thread that I thought MS would not drop the paywall for Netflix etc. How wrong was I!

I've also said in the past that Kinect was an integral and important part of MS' living room takeover strategy... I was wrong again!

When I finally get round to buying an XB1 I will definitely go for the model that includes Kinect as I like some of the options for controlling TV, but for those who were...

Ah the paranoia of the fanboy. I thought this was an article about the Xbox??

I disagree just as much when Sony waste money on pointless timed exclusivity. But MS have traditionally been FAR worse when it comes to under-delivering new IP and over-egging timed exclusivity.

I've seen far FAR less interesting comments. :)

Sounds like a sensible list. Would be surprised about the removal of Gold for apps though. (Fingers crossed, as it's a ridiculous policy)

I would probably add to that list some pandering to indies as well.

Overall if that's what MS show, it will be a disappointment (except for a Gears reveal). They need at least 3 new IP, and something really big and unexpected.

Any talk about securing timed exclusive stuff will be met with harsh in...

Good people sometimes do bad things, and bad people sometimes do good things. Very few games manage to implement those nuances and still reward the player.

In most cases you make one decision when you hit the Start button... Do I want to see the 'good' ending or the 'bad' one or, do I want the 'good' rewards / powers, or the 'bad' and so on.. So everything you do is dictated by that - it actually removes choice.

Very few peop...

I love the way some people on N4G think giant companies can change plans in the blink of an eye...

I thought MS have usually taken the early slot and Sony later in the last few E3's? Why is it a conspiracy this year?

Oh yes! Of course! It's because Sony obviously managed to totally change last years presentation to remove DRM, drop the price and unbundle PSEye!! That MUST be it!! - Despite them only having a couple of hours to work out how this wou...

I bought a PS4 on Day 1. My brother bought an XB1 over the weekend. He's always been a PlayStation gamer, but wanted to play TitanFall - so he jumped in to Xbox for the first time

Have to say I'm impressed with the XB1. It's a huge evolution from the 360.

The PS4 is great, and we all know it's going to have some epic 1st party games, but as an overall package the XB1 is very compelling. It's interesting to see the PS4's aggressiv...

@Volkama

Well said.

The price of next gen games does sting a lot and I'm not sure I can see the justification.

I agree. It's hard to pin down why it's suddenly become so addictive.

I would say that fundamentally I prefer Torchlight 2 - but something about D3 has me hooked. I quite like the quick burst play of Adventure mode. It's nice to collect a few bounties.

Interesting info on playing it in 3D. I can imagine seeing enemies exploding in 3D is quite amusing,

Good news that console owners get to play this soon,l and with all the improvements / patches and the expansion.

I hated the original D3 release on PC; I played Acts 1 to 4, and then vowed never to play it again - it was an obvious money-grab / grind. There was no reason to play, as to get the best gear needed an investment in the Real Money Auction House, but there was no incentive to do so because going through the Campaign repeatedly was just no fun..

I don't agree with most of what you wrote Deadpool101.

I do agree some aspects of the presentation could be tweaked - but it won't be by much.

Putting on a presentation like E3 takes months of planning. Lighting, writing, rehearsing, creating the videos and slides... There isn't a huge amount of flexibility.

I also don't agree that the PSEye and DRM were going to be part of the PS4 before the MS debacle. That's just cons...

This is not something I would want.

I don't see how the author thinks the time is right. The Vita is not exactly flying off shelves. And MS have invested heavily in SmartGlass and Surface.

Far better to continue using SmartGlass for integration with XB1

Also, (and this is a slight generalisation) the type of game that appeals to Xbox owners is not the sort that would work very well on a handheld (AAA FPS / action games) - so who would t...
