Depends on the games you like.... Both Vita and 3DS have some nice niche games.
Just because both developers start throwing around the term 'Social' doesn't mean they need a direct comparison.
Totally different styles of game in my opinion.

Buying a console that vanishes from the market after only 4 years was disappointing (But, playing Halo CE and Elder Scrolls Morrowind, was not!)

Both systems have a tonne of good games.
For me it was after E3 and when a buddy I game with online a lot bought an XB1 to play Dead Rising. I love that series so decided to 'Jump In' ;)
But I still don't trust MS as far as I could throw Major Nelson, as they have been a let down the last two gens.

I love driving games, but I'd always intended to try the free version first then buy / upgrade.
My biggest disappointment this gen (with ALL racing games) is that my Logitech G27 is no longer supported, and MS / Sony have gone in different directions with the force feedback they support. So there is no chance of a 'one wheel to rule them all' across consoles and PC. :(
You make a good point about the successful console having the most / worst fanboys.
Anyone on this site in 2007 onwards knows some of the 360 fanboys were every bit as obnoxious as some of the the PS4 are now.
The only difference I see now, is that XB1 fanboys seem to like to play the wounded martyr. As if they are being picked on by the naughty bullies who like Sony.

You could just as easily do a 'find and replace' on Sony for Xbox, Nintendo or PC fanboys at various times over various issues.

I did hear a rumour that some US retailers started to take pre-orders for a PS4 version - but no idea if there was any truth in that, and whether it was the retailer jumping the gun, or that MS did the deal at some point after E3.
Likely just opportunist retailers taking orders as it would have been safe to assume (post-E3) that a new TR game would be multi-plat.
