This old chestnut again. Comes round at least once a year!
While there are creative people trying to tell a story there will be single player games.
We haven't even scratched the surface of the types of emotive and immersive experiences single player games can deliver.
Sure there's is a place for Co-Op and multiplayer, and to be honest with stuff like microtransactions and subscriptions, multiplayer is probably more lucrative (how many people woul...
Heavenly Sword and Saints Row 2 are not bad games by any means - and I would even argue that Saints Row 2 was NOT overhyped.
Personally I prefer SR2 to GTAIV. Much more fun.
Heavenly Sword is a great game with an amazing cinematic feel. I enjoyed the game from start to finish. Sure it was overhyped... It was a launch title on the PS3 (which itself was overhyped), but it almost lived up to the hype.
My 360 is out of warranty - if it breaks I either have to pay for a repair or just buy a new one.
I have a launch model... tiny hard drive, no HDMI, loud DVD drive/fans and guaranteed faulty! (I am actually on my third 360, but they each went wrong in warranty but before the new motherboards were released).
If (or more likely, when) my 360 breaks I would be crazy to get it repaired, so MS would basically get a double sale off me. That may look great for their sales ...
And the award for the best double entendre goes to...
...Dark Witness
"They are just standing quietly with one hand in their pocket and a big smile on their face..."
:)
Seems to me that Turn10 are taking a rather agressive stance on marketing this game.
Every time they shout about beating GT5 they are drawing attention to themselves. Chances are even they don't believe they've out-gunned Gran Turismo - but if they say it often enough and loud enough people might start believing it.
It's great that there is competition in the industry, people trying to raise the bar - but really, if you only own a 360 you'll buy Forza, if you on...
Love the games of Tim Schafer - but will wait to pick this up when it drops in price... Which going by some low profile games these days will be approx 2 weeks after launch! :)
Steam pricing is annoying.
It's as if they decided that the convenience of downloading stuff should equate to a higher price than the physical product.
Steam seems to average about £4-5 higher than buying from Amazon or Play.com for new(ish) releases.
Digital downloads are always going to struggle while they rip off customers.
Playstation has never been about a killer app. I find it hard to name one killer app for PS1, 2 or 3.
To me, Playstation has always been about variety and consistently high quality covering almost every genre.
Perhaps the Playstation brand itself is the 'killer app' - as every gamer, regardless of whether they are hardcore or casual or something in-between, and regardless of what genre they favour will find a game (or series of games) that make a Playstation console...
Nvidia seems happy to throw million in to the The Way It's Meant To Be Played scheme just to ensure an unfair advantage. As a business strategy it's brilliant - but as a customer I find it deplorable.
I have always been unbiased when it comes to GPU's (I buy whichever make/brand is the best I can afford at the time) - but since the whole 8 series debacle by Nvidia (which ranks up there with MS denying the RRoD issue) I have been favouring ATI much more.

Have you read any of the posts above? The vast majority are full of surprise that Eurogamer have given a PS3 exclusive a good mark.
None are saying that Eurogamer has suddenly become 'legit', they are simply stating that the game must be extremely good for a site, that has been accused of bias, to give it 10/10.
What a confused and pointless article...
If you're going to call the article 'The marketing failure of 5 PSN accounts', at least try and explain why you think it's a failure!
Are we talking about potential revenue lost for developers of new IP, because users can share their games? (A fair discussion point)
Or, are we talking about a change to the PSN T&C's? (At least summarise The Don's problem - rather than just link to a podcast.)
Heh, this may be an awesome score from Eurogamer - but they still managed to mention Bungie/Halo twice! :)
Considering one of these mentions was for the deft and subtle story telling of Bungie makes me wonder what some of these reviewers are on. And they still can't help using a quick put down "...filled with exceptional set-pieces but still a few tweaks short of a game like Halo's strategic foundations"
What does an FPS (on Xbox) have to do with a third-p...
I cancelled my Gold membership some time ago. The features and services are fine, great even, but I found a lot of it was smoke and mirrors.
Online performance in games is no better than free competitors, and is often worse. As has been said many times, the majority of games on Xbox use P2P for gaming - why should I pay MS for that? Yeah, the matchmaking and clan stuff is better than on PSN, but it's not something that feels like it's worth the money.
The new stuf...
Great list (although not so keen on Shadowman myself). Silent Scope with motion controls would be sweet. Crazy Taxi is one of my all-time fave games.
Would add...
Daytona
Sega Marine Fishing (with PS3 motion controls)
Seaman - maybe, it might be a nice PSN game if they updated it to use the PSEye and it's built in mic
Grandia 2
Ah, the memories. Time to unpack my DC again!
I find it kinda funny that people are obsessing over damage modelling in a RACING game. Y'know, a game where the objective is to finish first WITHOUT crashing!
For me, handling and physics are the most important things - not how much bodywork deforms when driving the wrong way round the track for a head-on collision.
Neither Forza3 or GT5 are really 'sims' by the looks of it. Forza 2 had a more forgiving driving model, and the GT series has always been laughable for ...
@Maticus
Maybe the answer to that is follow the model of Champions Online and others - have one distributed server 'farm' and multiple instances on each.
DC BC would be pretty awesome, but I'll believe it when I see it.
I still have a Dreamcast plus a lot of games, couple of fishing controllers, steering wheel, multiple VMU's, lightgun.
Was just thinking of selling it all, but couldn't part with Crazy Taxi 1 and 2 and Powerstone 2... And Skies of Arcadia, and Grandia 2... And Shenmue 1 and 2, Daytona USA. Even Mars Matrix, Seaman and Sega Marine Fishing.
It's cool having all that kit - but I'd ...
I think you are generalising here. It's not all PS3 owners who are venting over the score.
I own a 360 and was on the fence about ODST. I'm confused by the review scores. I avoided the hype - I had no idea that the single player campaign, on Normal, could be beaten in 4 hours. It adds one multiplayer mode, It add 3 new maps, then just bundles up content most Halo fans would probably have bought (but only if they like the MP) That doesn't seem like a full price release to me. ...
As I've said in many posts before I'm not the biggest Halo fan. The first game was pure awesome, second was pretty bad, third was a bit better (I'm talking about SP here)... and now we have ODST.
Because I'm on the fence about the series, to me the reviews are important in getting me to part with my hard earned cash. A lot are saying 9 - but when I look at the content, and the facts I just can't see how the scores add up.

Interesting score/review.
I liked the demo, but didn't love it. The game seemed like a solid 7.5. I'd categorise it as 'simple fun'.
Perhaps Schafer's name guarantees a little extra love from the reviewers, or maybe the demo just doesn't really do the full game justice.
