Has the lack of content been confirmed?
Cus I don't mind only having one campaign if it equals the size of other full RTS games.
So if one campaign in SC2 = 15+ hours, and 3 campaigns in Command Conquer for example = 15+ hours I see it as equal value. And I don't have a problem with that.
If, and only IF, the single player component of this third of the game equals what I have previously experienced in other RTS games - then Yes, it's worth the money.
If it also feels like a complete story arc, and builds anticipation for the next two thirds, then yes, it's worth it.
But this is a premium priced PC game, so it has it's work cut out!
What I love about these 'own the competition' type articles by both Sony and Microsoft fanboys, is that they fail to mention their biggest competitor, the one that has cracked open and widened the reach of video games... Nintendo.
The competitor that brought a console to the casual masses (even more so than the PS2 did) and that MS desperately and almost embarrassingly are trying to grab on to.
Pissing contents over who is in second place (or first lo...
Considering Sony have said that creating or converting a PS3 game to 3D is not a huge effort, I don't really see how Nintendo could justify a price increase.
Not saying they won't (or that Sony won't do the same!!), but DS and PSP games are priced just about right at the moment - I wouldn't pay more for a handheld game - even one in 3D.
Indeed indeed
Would probably never have bought the Dreamcast version if it hadn't come bundled for free when I bought the console.
As a direct result of that, over 10 years later I am very interested in buying HT:Hurricane!!
Lol. Good to see you're honest with yourself
I used to be a bit of a sucker for LE games myself, but fortunately I've since broken the habit! There's hope for you too! :)
I remember back in the day when most games came with stuff that would now be considered LE. I got a copy of Elite for the old Spectrum 128k, and it came with star chart poster, a specially written novella, keyboard overlays for the 48k speccy(!), and some other stuff in a nic...
That would be great.
Loved Soulblighter. Great game in every way.
Particularly the voice over guy for the tutorial! :) And the multiplayer replays were cool too and far ahead of their time.
Lol Kingdom.
Clutching at straws! All you can come back with is one multi-plat and an exlcusive running on a multi-plat game engine! - neither of which have launched.
All platforms have good looking games. That's not in doubt. Gears is one of my fave series, but lets not kid ourselves here - it's more artistic merit than technical prowess.
Did you not read down to the bottom of the link you posted about Rage?... Sounded to me like ...
@Kingdom Come
Cus on PS3 we often get the best of both worlds... GoW3 looks amazing, and plays amazing, and the story is OK too.
All this preview says is that the graphics are OK, and it's obviously inspired by GoW... no mention of any aspect of the demo exceeding anything in GoW3
So although I agree that there is a reliance on graphics = quality when it comes to PS3 fans(in the same way that sales = quality for the 360 fans) - nothing ab...
Someone has to push the boundaries. I don't see anything wrong with getting 3D in the home now.
The early adopters help pay for R&D and drive down manufacturing costs until a sweet spot on price/performance is found.
3D may not become really mainstream until PS4 / Next Xbox / Wii2 or maybe Wii 3 launch. But the 3DS will help build an appetite for 3D on a screen bigger than a handheld.
I love 3D in the cinema, but I won't jump in...
Good point!!
Although I actually think back in the day of ACE, early Edge (before it disappeared up it's own backside), some of the 8-bit mags for Speccy and C64 were actually fairly well written and objective.
Perhaps journalism has been significantly tainted by the marketing dollar; or the fanboy / console wars are more pervasive and influential these days.
I guess back when I got in to gaming print media was pretty much the only way to...
Sssshhhhh! Apparently that never happened!! (according to some blinkered fanboys)
2007 was a great year on N4G. Lot of fun. Nasim was classic!
Cool. I'm glad you like it. :)
I loved the Beta and thought the game had a load of potential. Even went for the lifetime subscription as I was so confident in the game and developer track record.
But last time I logged in I just couldn't find much fun stuff to do. I like rolling new chars fairly regularly, but the limited low end content means it feels the same every play through.
I noticed a couple of things...
Many of the tech demo's have been shown using two Move controllers (rather than a Nav and Move). That has certain cost implications if the demo's translate to full products. I'm wondering if the 'full' move experience won't require two Move controllers for some games, and a Move + Nav for others.
What was the camera on the top of the TV? Didn't look like a regular PS Eye.
I'm ...
For some reason, no matter what the devs do, CO is just a supremely average MMO. It still lags behind CoX in almost every way (except graphics).
I really expected more from a super hero MMO. Launching with so little content was a mistake, but the focus has been on all the wrong things in my opinion.
The current state of video games journalism is akin to Neanderthals banging sticks against rocks.
I don't agree.
People are picking and choosing facts and scenarios to suit their argument.
Your big assumption is that people are having to buy 2 sets of Move/Nav controllers!
Why would I have to buy two of everything?
I don't pay for multiple DS3 controllers - friends bring their own. Why would it be different for Move?
I'm not saying Move is cheap by any means, but the bottom line is that the ...
Yes it seems overpriced, but I'd have no trouble rationalising the purchase if it had the software to support it. :)
Does that make me a sucker? Maybe. But I have rationalised many purchases based on little hard reason!! I bought a Dreamcast shortly after launch solely for Crazy Taxi and an Xbox solely for Morrowind. Both purchases paid off in the long run - but with Kinect... I'm not so sure.
130 for a fancy peripheral just seems too steep. Sure...
Gods was good, but I'd prefer a remake of Chaos Engine.
Well said TheViper
At last someone who understands the shipped vs Sold argument.
As someone who worked in Logistics it never fails to amuse me how people have no idea of the terms shipped and sold, and what stuffing the channel does for sales figures and actually means to a company P&L report.
