The cost of making games, especially AAA, has already got to a tipping point. A new gen of consoles can only increase costs further. I can't ever remember a time when so many devs have gone out of business, and that has to do with tough economic times and spiraling dev costs.

This gen, for me, has seen the most radical shake up of the industry - both hardware and software. I can't ever remember a time when each console had a really unique selling point beyond excl...

"Piracy May Have Saved the PS3"

From what?

True, the profit margin on software is higher than the hardware... But surely it follows that the more consoles you have out there, the more games you're likely to sell.

HD remake please Sony. Awesome series of games.

Hopefully it will play better than Crysis 1. It kinda annoyed me that the game was so dull after how awesome Farcry 1 was. Looked pretty tho!

Harmonix has been around for about 15years or so, I don't see them going away any time soon. I suspect they'll evolve if Rock Band starts to tail off.

Rock Band could actually see an uptick of interest, as there's no Guitar Hero for people to buy (arguably the more famous name), so they may migrate towards Rock Band.

Also, Rock Band 3 has arguably brought the biggest innovation and change to the music genre (and arguably the entire industry) by a...

You need a history lesson Dsnyder.

Red Octane had a guitar controller developed, and needed someone to make software for it. They asked Harmonix to make a game, due to their work on many previous music games. The result was GH1

After GH2, Activision bought Red Octane, and MTV bought Harmonix. More importantly, for Activision, they got the Guitar Hero name in the deal.

Since then Activision has been milking Guitar Hero. Red Octane never had...

The game is definitely not a disappointment. But there are some odd design decisions in there which detract a little.

Lol, yeah, PLEASE PD spend your precious time making high poly trees!! If there's one thing that makes or breaks a racing sim it's the poly count of the trees! /s

Screen tearing - definitely need to reduce it as much as possible. Very annoying in places and a big let down in the overall quality of the game.

Fantastic idea.

What many 'old' gamers fail to remember is that there are a lot of people who are new to gaming, and 360 / PS3 might be their first console. So having access to HD remakes is great.

In many cases the graphics in some of the older classics look really poor by today's standards - so getting an HD refresh is a good idea.

Plus, although I have God of War 1 and 2, and an old PS2. The chance to play them with much bett...

My thoughts exactly. Fantastic proof of concept, but gimmicky at best and pointless at worst.

I kinda agree. But it's worth bearing in mind this is a PC hack, so lag if this was done on 360 is unknown.

I also have much higher hopes for controller + kinect games, but until proven otherwise I remain very sceptical of how well Kinect (+ controller) will benefit core games. However, as the Move functionality in KZ3 has been shown to work extremely well, I am open minded and optimistic that MS/devs should be able to deliver something that works for the core audience ...

Think this a world wide thing.

In the UK they've done the same and dropped the 90-day sub to £19.99 (from £27.99). This promotional offer is only available until 1st March, and lasts as long as you continuously subscribe. If you unsubscribe and later re-subscribe the price goes back up to the original cost.

Just for info £19.99 is 32.00AUD, so Australia is still getting a more raw deal.

Particularly like the grammar in the title. Reading the article felt like it may have started off in English, but had been run through a few languages in Google Translate before being translated back to English!!

On topic: A Tron MMO would be about as successful as The Matrix MMO. A fun concept, but destined for cancellation.

I dunno when (if ever) Minecraft will come out of Beta. But whatever year it happens it should be on every short list for GOTY.

Seriously good game.

Haven't seen many articles about Major Nelson recently... Guess he's been too busy playing all those 360 exclusives.

Wait...

If I had access to a Matrix like experience... First thing I'd do is download a virtual old school arcade to visit and play!! :)

Console blocks... Yes, if implemented properly.

IP perma bans... No thanks. Many ISP's don't allocate static IP addresses, so the wrong person could be banned. Even if Sony banned on a MAC address level, it would be pointless as anyone with the knowledge to hack a PS3 would probably be clever enough to spoof a MAC address.

Pretty funny comment.

However, I have to ask why people are so hung up on X-game chat?

I hate the idea of it. When I'm playing a game I want to either be immersed in it, or I want to be communicating with other players on my team - not chatting to other people.

If people really want it, fair enough. But it seems it's just a bullet point on XBox Live's feature list.

A 500mil marketing budget would probably do the trick.... Worked for Kinect!! /jk

I don't think it's about 'beating' CoD. Battlefield and CoD are two very different games. I like both styles - the mayhem of CoD and the measured approach of Battlefield.

I think the worst thing a developer can do is be overly influenced by the competition, or look for gimmicks that 'beat' the market leader. A developer needs a clear vision of the game...
