They're good points ash.
The Wii U will be a good acid test for Nintendo. I agree Nintendo seemed vague about the Tablet controller, but I think they were just not quite ready for E3.
I think Nintendo are hoping for the 'Apple effect', where their products are seen as must have's.
You mention that the Wii U is less marketable than the Wii - but as a bloke in his 30's I was actually more interested in the Tablet than I was...
Could be true, but why wouldn't they upgrade? It might not be Day 1, but with full backwards compatibility on peripherals and games, I'm sure there's many Wii owners who might upgrade, and it might actually be pretty good value to do so. They know they won't need to be X number of new remotes/nunchuks/Balance Boards etc.
I still know some people with SD TV's and only own a Wii - their first choice console when the get an HD TV is going to be a Wii U.
Good (or at least a better) strategy by EA.
However can they just let Criterion make a Black sequel during their Need for Speed / Burnout down time!!
Now, I dunno if Wii U will fail or not, but surely history has taught us a thing or two...
The name Wii was universally derided as a stupid name when announced... didn't hurt sales.
The Wii was a WHOLE generation behind the competition.... didn't hurt sales.
Why would things be any different with the Wii U??
How many articles are we gonna see about this.
Sony had the widest line up, and it's starting to feel like the good ol PS2 days where every gamer was well catered for. And the Vita looked amazing (although I'll probably pass until it's had it's first price drop - was an early adopter of the PSP and got burned)
Microsoft showed it's transition to Nintendo wannabe is almost complete, and that they will continue to build on the sales / profi...
Duke was never going to match the hype. But the bottom line is... Is the game fun? Does it provide value for money?
If the answer is no, then it should be marked down.
If journalists are rating the game based on the lack of taste, sexist themes, or relevance in modern gaming, that is unfair. You know what you're going to get from a Duke game, and it's not deep emotional story lines, and dialogue dripping with angst and gravity.

Who cares.
At this E3 I saw more BS and CGI than I've seen in years.
The majority of the Nintendo event was CGI or PS3/360/PC footage - why isn't the press giving Ninty as much crap as they gave Sony back in '05. It wasn't until a few people started calling them out that they admitted it.
So many of the trailers were CGI this year instead of in-game - Overstrike, Halo 4, StarHawk to name a couple.
It's li...
'sultry asshole'?
Thinking of how many thousands and thousands of blocks I've mined on the PC version.... I'd hate to have to use kinect for the task. :) But as a gimmicky optional interface to support the 360 controller, it might be kinda cool.
The biggest shame about Minecraft going exclusive to 360 is that it stops PS3 gamers playing this phenomenal game. I think it should be on as many platforms as possible - and considering it was built in java it's a shame that the only platform missing out is the PS3.
I wonder if Sony updated the PS3 browser to support java it would be playable.... Although it would need some ability to save locally, but would certainly be one in the eye for MS if it happened.
You're entitled to your opinion, but even with modding I'm not convinced the world of PC gaming is any less stagnant than consoles.
Sure indie gaming is enjoying it's best period for years, and modding adds to many existing games - but either I've become jaded or people are more easily pleased these days.
"does Microsoft’s backing prove that console innovation is dead and that people need to look toward the PC market for fresh ideas?"
Little Big Planet 2 would like a word with you. There's more creativity in that game, and the community than almost anything I have seen in years.
Minecraft is amazing, and one of the best games I have played in many many years, but there's two reasons why the game is a success... 1. It's massive fun. 2. It...
I'd be surprised if this turns out to be true.
As the tablet controller is basically a dumb terminal, the console needs to do the processing and streaming. The more tablets connected the bigger the burden on the CPU / streaming bandwidth
My feeling is that they will allow multiple tablets to be used per console - but the games that have this as a feature may have to be simpler or less processor intensive (although to quote 'matey' above "WE ...
You're not doing Nintendo's image any favours. Haven't seen a PS3 or 360 fanboi rant like that for a looong time - possibly not since Nasim's rants on the PS3.
Do you speak in the same way you type? No pauses, no grammar, all shouty.
Agreed.
When Miyamoto was asked the same question he said they were still looking in to it.
Makes me think that Nintendo are still quite early in testing for this. And only managed a limited demo for E3 (hence using PS3/360/PC footage, and not showing the console itself properly).
It concerned me we saw nothing of either FFvsXIII or The Agent.
I believe Jack Tretton, when asked about The Agent, couldn't even confirm it was still exclusive!!
Same here. Played it as far as the open world section - but just found it too boring to continue. Would probably have pushed through and finished it some day, but my PS3 YLOD and I lost my save...
Suffice to say I'll never play it again.
I'm not acting like I have any clue what the tech is going to be like. However, I doubt the Wii U is going to be significantly more powerful than the PS3 / 360.
My reason for this...
The E3 presentation used PS3, 360 and PC footage and target renders that looked on par with those machines - so it's a fair assumption to say that the power will be roughly the same (give or take) as the current gen machines.
Some people are bashing the ...
Well said!
Molyneux should be out there re-defining and creating genres like back in the day. Not bowing to Microsoft's time lines and demands.
Even if the Wii U is significantly more powerful than the PS3/360 I think that leaves Nintendo in a similar position to what Sony has faced for the first few years of the PS3's life...
Multiplats on the PS3 look pretty much the same as on 360 - there is no incentive for devs to work to the strengths of each console, especially with the proliferation of cross console game engines - such as Anvil, Frostbite, Rage, Unreal etc.
Even if the Wii U is significa...
