What a fun article!
Over £1000 worth of GPU vs a £250 PS3
I game probably 60% on console and 40% PC - and I prefer the look of many PS3 games. If we're talking solely about graphics it isn't about about overall resolution, or even about texture resolution in most cases - it's about art direction.
I think the best looking game I have seen is Uncharted 2, before that it was probably Gears 2. Killzone 3 looks great, but n...
Activision could easily have absorbed the 'failure' of Blur. Although the game was not my thing it was solid and fun and had high production values - it's not as if Bizarre were a bunch of 1st time designers who pumped out a second rate title. This is an established company of 15+years iirc.
EA has taken the view of mixing established IP with new IP - and it has massively paid off. Dead Space 2 outsold the first, and was well received. Mirror's Edge has be...
@drtyepic
KZ3 is a 'traditional' but good FPS, so are you saying it should be marked down for lack of innovation?
I found BulletStorm to be fairly mediocre (from the demo) but had some neat innovative touches - should it be marked up for that innovation alone?
To me immersion is more important than innovation - so should KZ3 be given a higher score than BulletStorm as it's far more immersive (thanks in a large part to it's g...
Yep, as a gamer in my 30's I have to agree there's little merit in gaming journalism at the moment.
It tends to be either the juvenile (99% of blogs and websites) to the pompous (Edge in the UK)
I come to N4G as it is useful for aggregating news. I have the site on an RSS feed so scan through the headlines to find the news I want to read and I can't deny that the passionately irate and occasionally worrying fanboy insanity is amusing at times.
Yes Britain has an industry to be proud of.
We have a diversity of talent which comes through in the quality of games.
What the author actually appears to be saying is that he believes British made games do not have a distinct 'British' identity that comes through in the same way as the 'doe eyed girls' etc of Japanese games.
The fact that the author goes on to talk about British humour and whimsy, which I think is what makes ...
Yeah, cus unless you move 1million+ on Day 1, your AAA game is an insta-fail! /s
.
It's personal preference. Neither the 360 pad or the DS3 is perfect in my opinion.
I prefer the analogue sticks, R1/L1, Dpad and weight of DS3
I prefer the Triggers and overall ergonomics on the 360 pad
Neither controller has perfect feel on the face buttons, but I marginally prefer the DS3's.
So overall I prefer the DS3. I wonder what sort of market there would be for custom made bespoke controllers!!
Y'know what else has a really good N64 emulator, and is legal...? A Wii.
I like to go back to games after a few months or even years. The only recent game where I pretty much finished it and immediately restarted a new game was Uncharted 2.
At the moment there are too many good releases coming too quickly, and my time is a bit more limited these days, so I've not replayed anything for a while (tried to restart KZ2 just last night, but was quickly drawn back to LBP2).
I like knowing that in an idle moment some time in the fu...
@Big_Dom
Agree that conspiracy theories are ridiculous on this site sometimes... but E3 2010 showed a strengthening of ties between Sony and EA, and MS and Activision (which actually makes the 'MS paid EA argument' look even sillier).
Ultimately all the companies want to make the most money - but we've seen timed exclusive stuff for CoD on 360, and MoH stuff on PS3; so consumer money is not the only factor.
IMHO FarCry was great. Crysis was boring.
@chriski333 If you have both consoles you'd know the differences for 99% of multi-plats is negligible and rarely impacts the fun.
And 99% of PS3 AAA exclusives look better than 360 exclusives.
PS. I own both consoles... and a Wii :P
What's happened to the good ol' days when devs made the best game possible using the strength of each machine!!
Guess costs really have spiralled to the point where picking a common basline to aim for is good enough, rather than expending extra time, money and resources to tailor a game to each platform.
I reckon a 3DS would probably drop less calls than an iPhone 4! :P
Awesome, lets add the Apple fanboys to the melting pot of N4G :)
Riccitiello should be commended for turning EA round from a figure of hate to, well, a lesser figure of hate!
Personally I've got a lot of respect for EA as a publisher now, and never really disliked them anyway but it really highlights how a big corp can turn things around. It also makes Activision look even more pathetic for making many of the same mistakes EA made when it was climbing to the top of their ivory tower of hatred, mediocrity and twice yearly releases of ...
How long is this crap going to rumble on??? Did we really 'learn the PS4 has been put on hold'??
A badly translated article that actually mentioned Sony was in no hurry to release the PS4 suddenly becomes 'fact' that the PS4 has been delayed, or shelved.
Also how can something that has never been announced be delayed?
And even if the PS4 has been delayed internally, how is this bad? As I said in another of these 'highl...
BS article.
There's no confusion.
People won't walk in to a mobile phone shop and look for a PSP or NGP, and they won't walk in to a game store and look for a Xperia Play. Different products for different markets doing different things.
I would expect the Xperia to be heavily subsidised by contract - so will probably be free on some tariffs.
All Sony have done is create an Android phone that is more geared toward...
Up to the individual if it's worth it.
The free stuff is usually junk, but there's been a few games I've enjoyed.
There's two massive bonuses for me...
1. Is the discounts on some titles. I buy a lot of PSN games over the year, so I reckon PSN+ will pay for itself easily.
2. Auto patching. Whilst I think this should really be a standard and free feature I find it's a massive benefit to have patches down...
