@Dailynch
What a crock!
You're looking at this from such a narrow point of view.
The argument that launching on 3 platforms gains more sales than launching on one could be true in many cases, but it ignores so many factors.
Sales are not the important thing... Profit is!
If a dev has to put together a bigger team (therefore paying more wages, needing larger premises etc) to launch on 3 platforms they ma...
1. N64
2. PS2
3. Dreamcast
4. PS3 (could go up the list if it keeps delivering)
5. SNES / MegaDrive (can't decide, loved em both)
Honourable mention: Xbox - introduced a lot of neat features, but just wasn't supported long enough.
@above..
I heard both those stories about the naming of the 360. probably some truth in both,
Also the story that the concave design of the original 360 was inspired by an intake of breath - like a gasp - sucking in the sides of the console.
What? Surely not? A BETA test throwing bugs? Unbelievable! Off with Naughty Dog's head!
/s
If only people didn't feel a beta test was some sort of entitlement to play a game early, rather than, y'know actually reporting bugs... maybe we'd see a lot of higher quality launches!
Well said. +bub
Exactly. Consoles need a unique selling point that consumers can attach to, to either justify their purchase or make them want to purchase.
For some people that selling point may be Kinect or Blu-Ray playback or XBL or Move or WiiMote or WiiFit etc etc
For me it comes down to games, and considering I can get multi-plats of almost equal quality on either 360 or PS3 it's those unique experience or exlusives that will dictate where I spend money - and in my...
As long as MS are shifting units, I'm sure they don't care.
But... As a multi-console owner every generation I think MS have done their reputation (with me) a lot of harm. I bought a 360 on Day 1. It had some great games, especially Kameo, and that's what's important to me - not motion control, not facebook integration or a slick UI. Over time it has utterly lost relevance. So although this generation (and last) I am/was an Xbox owner, unless MS pull somet...
CoD campaigns are now just the gaming equivalent of a summer blockbuster movie.
I liked the campaigns in CoD 1 and 2, and MW1. All the rest have been ho-hum (excluding WaW as I never played it so can't comment)
In other reports I have read some employees of Bondi were working 80 - 110 hour weeks for weeks at a time.
Also, treating creative people and programmers as disposable resources is not acceptable.
It's not the way to run a business or a project.
Inevitably many jobs require a crunch before a deadline, but a well managed project should be able to keep this to a minimum and acceptable level.
Although LA Noire was pretty goo...
Even if you have a kick ass PC why get rid of your PS3?
I have a decent PC, and other than higher texture res and resolution, there's little that the PC does significantly better than a PS3.
Sure there's an argument that a PC 'could' do better, but the fact is that multiplat games sell the least on PC, and sales of PC exclusives rarely match the levels of Uncharted, let alone Halo numbers. So what incentive is there for a developer to do anyt...
1. He should leave his desk job in MS. He's a creative director, not a corporate suit
2. Go back to being independent. Get decent financial backing and take the same approach as Epic / iD / Naughty Dog / Team ICO etc where they launch a game When It's Done!
This isn't intended as a flame bait comment, but it seems that Sony are much more willing to give it's 1st and 2nd party devs as long as they need to get a game well polished. MS seem m...
If every there was a case of voting with your wallet - the EVE DLC is a prime example of where it should apply.
I have no issue with the price - because I would never be stupid enough to pay for it. but to those people who do buy these items - fair enough, whatever floats your boat.
Remember: The little + sign next to the web site (under Read Full Story) can be used to signal your feelings on this 'article' and website.
I like a good opinion piece - even if I disagree with it - but this 'article' was utter tosh!
EDIT and On Topic:
I doubt Apple will ever dominate the gaming market (at least not in the same way Nintendo did with the NES) - but when developers like Blizzard are looking at iOS I think the indication...
Feels like this game is just cashing in on the XCOM name, but if it's good... I can live with that!
Camping is a legit strategy, I just find it hugely boring.
True Fantasy Live Online... A ridiculous name, but an intriguing looking game. Was very much looking forward to this. Shame is got canned.
Also think Hellgate got a bum deal. Was (for the most part) a really decent game. Just needed a bit of polish, and a better business model - I really enjoyed it while it lasted.
Bored of this crap.
There's a fine line between milking for the sake of making money, and delivering compelling games that expand the source material.
The Halo universe is huge enough that they could easily keep delivering games. And why not... most 360 fans seem to love the series.
For me MS are treading a fine line with Halo and while mostly getting it right, they have occasionally taken the piss out of their fans - ODST for example should never have been a full release. ...
As a core gamer, I don't hate Kinect - I just want MS to show me something worth buying Kinect for.
@Soldierone
Not saying iD isn't a talented developer, but those comments from Tim Willits, and the subsequent damage control, makes me think Rage isn't quite the game they wanted to make because of certain restrictions on a certain console.
