Nah, I've got a Samsung 10.1 and a new iPad, and the iPad spanks the Sammy in every way... build quality, battery life, quality of apps (especially games).
No idea what the newer Samsung tabs are like, but doubt they surpass the iPad by that much, if at all.
I don't think a PC beats a tablet in every case. I've been playing a lot of digital board games on the iPad, and the touchscreen is far nicer and more intuitive than using a mouse. Plus with...
I like how MS are trying to evolve in to Apple.
Secretive product launch... Check
Overexcited execs... Check
Sending a message that it's not just about the hardware or software it's about both... check
I'm just surprised Balmer didn't say 'And just one more thing...' at the end.
The unwashed masses that flocked to the Wii didn't care it was underpowered compared to 360 and PS3.
Nintendo should not even bother comparing stats. They need to push the message that it's just a 'more powerful Wii' and market the crap out of the new controller. They also need to make sure the install base is well aware that it's fully BC and all old peripherals will continue to work on it.
That should be enough to make a lot of the 95+...
...So it's an FPS in a near future setting then???

Many years ago when I shared a house with some friends and buddies. We had a network set up to play Command and Conquer and Quake (not sure what versions now, memory fading in my old age!!). It was an old token ring network (none of this fancy new ethernet or WiFi and routers/switches malarky!)
During one particularly hectic battle of C&C one of the buddies was heard from his room cursing, shouting and pounding on the walls as he suffered another humiliating onslaught a...
An FPS rhythm action game... with a skateboard!!! Count me IN!
If it's a fun game, it doesn't matter much. Sure, 60fps in racing games is preferable, but I'd trade a bit of frame rate for a better game as long as it's a solid 30fps.
It's a real shame, but D3 is a bit of a joke.
I've put a lot of hours in to it, but it's as if they took everything that made D2 great and made a bad design choice to 'improve' it.
Maybe the game will improve after a another few months of patches, but I think the soul of Diablo has been lost from this game. It seems very geared towards benefiting the developer more than the player
As a long time PC user recently converted to Apple... It's a big No to gaming... but a Yes to everything else.
For day to day use the Apple combination of hardware, software, services and integration is far better than anything I experienced on PC. I can absolutely see why iPads and iPhones are gaining so much traction in business.
But for gaming.. the lack of AAA titles, and a focus on mobile GPU's in most of their products really hinders things....
Yeah that'd be nice. Just a shame the talent behind those games left LucasArts a long time ago.
As usual, Gamers will win.
As for 'best of show', the US media will once again crown Microsoft. The rest of the worlds press will use terms like 'narrowly edged it', to avoid claiming any one as an outright winner. Fanboys will once again claim their console of choice 'won' even if all the company of their choice does is show obviously fake demos or target renders. And chances are, once again there will be a lack of mega-tonne announcements.
I thought Republic Commando was one of the best Star Wars games of (fairly) recent times. Not sure why that IP was ditched.
Hope this Bounty Hunter game is a tactical TPS, like Republic Commando was a tactical FPS.
On one hand... it's only a game.
On the other hand... If I work all day and want to unwind with an hour or two of single player Diablo 3 when I get home; but end up with multiple 37 error, followed 73 error as I did last night... It does get annoying; very annoying.
What annoyed me the most is that the 73 error is 'Battle.net down'. Nothing to do with D3 itself (according to the D3 server status). Two points of failure in the system...
The real question is why the hell would you be calling revenue, spend; and why the hell you would be trying to equate revenue to market share.
The problem with any sort of peripheral that is not packaged with the console from Day 1, is that developing AAA titles for it is a huge risk, and many developers will not take that risk.
Take Kinect. It has sold 19million - that means a developer has 'only' a potential audience of 19 million people. Sounds a lot right!... but as a developer looking to feed your family, would you rather develop for something with a potential install base of 19million, or an install ...
What you say makes no sense.
Overall spending has never been used in relation to market share, by any company.
Please go look up a definition of market share. It has almost everything to do with units sold, not amount spent.
Dollars spent on what? Shipping hardware? Marketing? R&D? And how would you work out the market share from spend? Do MS know exactly how much it's competitors have spent on anything to come to the magical 47%? ...
That list makes it pretty laughable that the (mainly US) media have given MS the E3 'win' on a number of occasions!!
The PS2 wasn't the most powerful console, and it dominated. The Wii wasn't the most powerful console and it dominated.
Who cares if the PS4 is the most powerful or not.
Everyone seems so excited that the next gen will have some ridiculously high spec hardware... and yet the thing that really marked out THIS gen was the number of studios that went bust because of high development costs.
The more time and effort required to make games ...
For those with a fast internet connection, a subscription based cloud service could be fantastic.
Makes sense for Sony to partner with OnlIve rather than buy a company,or develop this themselves. If it doesn't work they can cut their losses. If it does work, and is profitable, it could be the turning point for console gaming as we know it... PS5 and Xbox 1080 would most likely be mainly (if not completely) streaming only.
I have a feeling the Surface RT (the ARM based one) will be similar in price to a new iPad, and the Surface Pro will be more business orientated and cost more. I didn't see anything about 3 / 4G in the models, so that should help keep the price down.
Be interesting to see how MS fair against Apple, as Android tablets are barely registering. As an analyst recently stated 'There is no tablet market, only an iPad market'.
One amusing comment I saw ...
