Considering how dumbed down Fable 2 and 3 have been; maybe the countdown IS the new Lionhead game - and just by watching it you are playing the game, and when the countdown reaches zero the final boss fight is over and... you win!

Syndicate was a cash-in, and a missed opportunity. Starbreeze are a far better developer than this game would indicate.

I really think EA/Starbreeze missed an opportunity here.

The original Syndicate games were always about tactical planning in real time.

What I would have loved is a game that fused elements of RTS (if you can call the original games RTS), and TPS (not FPS). So the player(s) would start with a 3D / isometric view where they...

Hope it is true. I still have an import copy of Seaman with Mic etc for Dreamcast. That is one messed up weird game!

I have a lot of respect for Starbreeze as a developer. But seems to me that this 'Syndicate' game was just trying to cash in on the nostalgia the name brings.

As a new IP this would be a mediocre shooter, with the Syndicate name attached it becomes a mediocre shooter that sells a few more copies to people hoping it captures the spirit of the isometric original.

I have the same fears for the X-Com FPS (although higher hopes for the proper turn based s...

Shame, as it looked like a good service. I never tried it though as I had previously used Comixology on a 4.3" Smartphone, and it just wasn't good.

If it had allowed comics to be viewed on an HDTV through the PS3 I would have signed up.

Maybe it'll come to the Vita, but I still think the screen format is too small to look at comics and really appreciate the artwork.

Vita looks like a great device, but I felt burned after buying a PSP. Never delivered on its promise.

Will wait and see with the Vita.

This is nothing new.

A few years ago Nintendo got hauled through the courts, and were found guilty, of price fixing on cartridges and I think also uncompetitive practises I believe.

Not a big deal.

I'm betting it was cuts demanded by Germany that have lead to this. They are far more strict on this sort of thing. I think Dead Island has only just got approved for release over there.

And as Jaffe said, they are not gonna make lots of different European versions to accommodate every country. Just makes sense to reduce costs by having a single SCEE version.

I know running a bricks and mortar chain is going to be far higher than online only - but the problem is twofold...

1. They charge crazy prices in their stores, and...
2. They can't compete online because they can't undermine the prices their own bricks and mortar stores set

It's a vicious cycle!

So they need to make a radical change, or they will probably go under.

These days, with HMV on the decline, and...

Absolutely agree with you.

But what's the options? I already stopped visiting sites that I consider show bad journalism practises.

99% of gaming websites report in a way that makes Fox News look like a well balanced organisation full of journalistic integrity

Lumines... Probably my most played game on PSP!! :)

Yeah true. They did that just launching the PS3! Doesn't even cover the other loses they have sustained.

I've not had a close look at the MS numbers (after all this is N4G and no one is expected to read anything except the headline :) ), but I'd be interested to see if any of those loss making divisions they carved out of the entertainment division a few years ago are still losing money - as they previously detracted a lot from the Xbox numbers (such as the Zune ...

Off topic... I'm no fan of the Xbox (anymore), but what MS have done is nothing short than stunning.

It is also quite staggering to think of the time, effort and what it actually costs to get market share in this business.

First MS learned about the market by partnering with Sega on the Dreamcast

Then they lost $4-5billion developing, launching and supporting the original Xbox (according to a 2005 Forbes report)

Finally t...

Very few (if any) journalist is going to be 100% objective. Just because Chobot is voicing a character means little. Journalists are given freebies and incentives all the time (not to mention the various scandals we've had with publishers threatening advertising revenue for reviews scores).

I would only be concerned if Chobot did the final review for ME3 for IGN.

Video game journalism has been broken for years

But didn't they lose $4-5b on the original XBox R&D, launch etc (Reported by Forbes back in '05)?

Not that it matters, as they now have a profitable foothold in the entertainment market, so those original billions will have been written off as the cost of getting them in the game now.

What's interesting is that it shows just how much time and money needs to be thrown at a project to get a foothold in the console business. It's lucky Ninte...

This will soon blow over (unless it ends up being true!! ;) ).

How many people remember the EXACT same stories appearing in 2005 about the PS3?

The technology to do this is already in the PS3. There were rumours galore just before the PS3 launched that they were going to do the same thing.

Obviously never happened.

Will be interesting to see if MS does this on Next Xbox or if this is just FUD. However if MS do it, I think it's highly likely Sony and/or Ninty will do the same.

It would be even more interesting to see how a move like this stood up against any sort of legal challe...

@Coltrane C
Yeah sometimes I just want a quick blast of gaming. An iOS (and to a lesser extent Android) device fits the bill perfectly.

I'd probably not buy Uncharted if it were on iOS. I bought the GTA re-release on iPhone, and it just didn't work very well on a touch screen only device.

There's a particular sort of game that needs to be on handheld, and my single biggest issue with the PSP was that Sony and developers just didn't s...

I've been surprised by just how many games I have bought for my iPhone.

Don't underestimate the quality of some of the iOS titles. Time killing is exactly what I see handheld gaming as being for. I don't really want to play Uncharted on a handheld when I can play it on a large HDTV on my PS3.

Titles like Chaos Rings, Infinity Blade 2, re-releases of stuff like FF Tactics and Chrono Trigger are awesome. Then add stuff like board games (Ticket to...

@NBT91

Same here... Won't buy on launch. Got burned buying a PSP on Day 1 (still not sure how / why I did that!!!).

Will wait and see on the PSV. It has some great launch titles, but needs long term and consistent support from 1st to 3rd party devs.

At the moment I really don't see the need for a handheld PS3 - so I'm waiting for the games that really leverage the different control methods and functionality of the PSV.
