Yes, you're right. Problem with PS3 is, ironically, in it's parallel processing abilities. If you don't use SPUs, Cell acts just like regular single-core-dual-thread CPU. BUT, if you try harder :) and use SPUs, you can do much more with it (because SPUs can be programmed separately, and you can assign one SPU for graphics, one for audio, on for AI, one for physics...), and take off some workload from PPU and/or GPU. Only thing is, maybe it was too early to introduce that kind of technology. ...

@Genki:

You can't see any (or very little) benefit from quad-core processor when you just play games. Dual-core is more than enough for this. Only apps which see DRASTIC performance boost from quad-core is rendering programs (3D studio) and/or video editing or sound editing. Games are generally not written for multiple cores just yet. Because todays programming languages are pretty much sequential, and it's hard to extract parallelism with them...

And you tell me why there isn't a PS3 port of Crysis? :|

Anyway, you can't compare console programming and PC programming. When you write a program for a console, you know that every console has same hardware, so you know what you're working with. You can have literally thousands of software/hardware combinations with PC technology so you can't do such good optimizations on a PC as you can do on consoles.

I'll give you an example with emulator programming: If you...

Xbox 360 is more than capable of running Alan Wake. Yes, tech demo was showcased on quad-core CPU, but Xbox 360 has Triple-core-dual-thread CPU. This means that X360 CPU actually has 6 logical cores which are clocked at 3.2GHZ so it can do a six-thread problem. Tell me how many games are written for more than 2 cores (excluding Crysis)?

Xbox 360 reportedly runs a second-order derivative of Windows 2000 that has been ported to the custom triple-core IBM PowerPC processor, and i...

FANTASTIC NEWS!!! I've been waiting for this game since 1997., and original "Quake2 engine powered" game screenshots!!!

Crisis isn't capable of hitting 60fps at max detail not because of bad/slow hardware, but because it's 3D engine is crappy optimized. Hell, when quad-core CPU + tri-SLI system is not capable of running that game maxed out, then you know that something is wrong with software, not hardware.

OK, I agree that extreme fanboys are annoying, but I disagree that he "never has one constructive word to say", on the contrary. His comments are his own oppinion, just like, for example, the comment of IDONTCARE above. So IDONTCARE's comment are constructive, or THE_ENGINEER's, and THE MART's are not. I see double standards here.

When PS3 fan say something like "PS3 will win. The beast is on the loose. You can't stop it", it gets multiple "agrees"...

It seems that everyone here loves to hate THE MART, and I don't know why. A lot of PS3 fans just tell MART, in one way or another, to STFU because they know they'll get approval, bubbles and "agree" from their fellow PS3 fans.

I found THE MART's comments to be logical and reasonable, and PS3 fans comments are (mostly) wishful thinking (like "The beast is on the loose", "it's awakened..."). That sounds really funny considering that most of the facts...

Majority of people here act like Micro$oft and Nintendo are going to just sit and watch PS3 takeover. Don't you people think that X360 (and Wii) will also have great AAA games and/or lower price? No one can give you an answer to "is 2008. Sony's year". Only time will tell.

A lot of people say "there's no way to counter FFXIII, MGS4...", but, if I remember correctly, those people also said that "their is no way to counter Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted....

Don't get me wrong, but SONY now sounds exactly the same like SEGA have sounded a few years ago, back in the "Dreamcast VS PS2" period, when PS2 was slowly, but surely, killing the Dreamcast - it was all about percentage and statistics, but nevertheless, PS2 won. SONY is in SEGA's shoes in this generation...

Bubble for you, mate! It's too bad that majority of people here more care about does XYZ game looks better on my system than on "theirs". God dammit, there are people who actually watch comparison movies and search for minor differences in textures and effects, and those are practically invisible to 99% of normal gamers. You can't see them if you don't search for them.

I can't believe it! There are still fools who believe that PS3 is SO MUCH more powerful than Xbox 360! Yes, it IS more powerful, but by A LOT smaller margin then most of you here want to believe. Deal with it, brainwashed fanboys on both sides of the fence. There are NO any mystical powers in the CELL processor! It's just a CPU, for Christ sakes, which can crunch numbers 30% faster (in average) than XENON CPU (I'm talking about game code, not simulations), under optimal conditions!

"Screen tearing" - turn on VSYNC and your problem is solved. I think...

Screen tearing is something that happens when GPU produces higher frame rate than screen refresh rate.

It could be it. ;)

Well, alright. I can't stand EXTREME fanboys (of any system) either.

As for PS3 failing/not failing...well, you're entitled to your opinion, just like everybody else. I hate when someone pass his/her opinion as a fact (unless it IS a proven fact).

IMO, PlayStation 3 will be third this generation, because history shows that the most expansive system, which is difficult to develop for, with least good games, is always:

1) Last in that generation; ...
