PS3 and 360 has same amount of memory, only X360's (unified) memory architecture is more flexible.
I just don't understand why PS3 fans so desperately need/want PS3 domination? They use every opportunity to glorify just about ANYTHING related to PS3 (BluRay, Cell...). They want HD DVD to die??? Why? What's in it for you?
Why PS3 fans cannot be satisfied with 2nd (or 3rd) place this generation? PlayStation 3 simply isn't what Sony thought it would be. My oppinion is that PS3 is NOT the best console this generation (when you take everything into consideration - price, developm...
Better question is "Do Sony fans remember Dreamcast, or better yet - Saturn?".
RSX is essentially overclocked GeForce 7800GTX. In terms of processing power, it's behind 7900GTX, and faaaar behind, for example, 8800GTX (not to mention various SLI combinations).
Didn't you just read what huntersville said? Why quote an idiot like Carmack who don't know what his talking about...
Beep! /SARCASM OFF/ ;)
EDIT:
I really was sarcastic. I think Carmack is a great programmer and game developer, and I respect everything he says since he's certainly better programmer then me, or probably 99% of the people here.
Are you a good programmer? Are you a programmer at all, so you can say (stupid) things like this? You call him an idiot, and he is one of the legends in computer programming, one of the best out there since the original Doom in 1993.
"the ps3 isnt dependent on memory, its all about teraflops and floating point..." - You obviously don't have clue what you're talking about, and you call him an idiot... Really sad.
I thought PS3 is a supercomputer with CELL CPU and it's limitless potential...
/sarcasm off now
Seriously, if PS3 is so powerful, then why hell it has so much problems with framerate? Some would say "lazy developers", but when you spend 2 or more years developing a game exclusively for one system, and you still cannot get solid 30FPS, than you're a:
A) Sloppy programer;
B) You're working on a platform that sipmply CAN'T give you 3...
Now I finally have a reason to buy a console. I'm a PC gamer since 1988., and the only console I have is Dreamcast, but I'm DEFINITELY gonna buy an X360 because of Shenmue 3 !
Oh, yeah, and Sony has soooo much new stuff to widen their appeal - Metal gear Solid for the 4th time, Gran Turismo for the 5th time, GTA for the 4th time, Final Fantasy for the 13th (!!!) time, Virtua Fighter for the 2nd time (VF4 and VF5), Tekken for the 6th time... Really fresh!
Lair is just a spiritual successor to Panzer Dragoon series. Nothing new and revolutionary here except, maybe, the graphics... Like I said before - just like Doom 3 - great graphics, déjà vu feeling...
I know I would get a lot of "disagree" on this, but the fact is that consoles have dumbed down gaming in some aspects. For example, Point&Click adventure games practically disappeared mostly because consoles took over, and majority of console gamers won't buy those kind of games. Same goes for, for example, flight simulations (anyone remember NOVA LOGIC's F-22 Lightning series, MiG-29 Fulcrum...), and 3D fighting games (like Virtua Fighter and Mortal Kombat series) are not for P...
And if you go a little further down the article at wikipedia, you will see the following:
Japan 1,010,492 as of July 15, 2007
North America 1,498,500 as of July 23, 2007
PAL territories 1,200,000 as of July 13, 2007
That makes total ~3,7 million, not 6 million.
This is getting ridiculous. Sony SOLD about 4 million consoles, and shipped around 6 million. Every time some PS3 fan post comment about sales, it's ALWAYS a little higher. First it was 3 million. A month later it was 3,6. Again, a few days later, it was 4 million. Now Sony's fans say it's between 4,5 and 6 million...Give me a break!
I still don't know why big movie studios adopt BluRay over HD DVD. I mean, HD DVD is cheaper, it has some really nice and interesting features for any average consumer, and, in most cases, has higher or same quality picture as BluRay. The only adventage BluRay has is capacity, but HD DVD is still "large enough" for high quality high definition movies.
My opinion is that SONY convinced movie studios that PS3 will just fly of the shelves, so that there will be many BD P...
FANTASTIC GRAPHICS ! ! ! Probably the best I've ever seen! I just hope this won't transform into yet another "PS3 vs Xbox 360" stupid comparisons.
Well, IMO it won't be like that. PS2 was the cheapest DVD player and the price was around 300$. PS3 is the cheapest BluRay player right now and it costs 500$/600$. Now, if you compare those two, you get the following facts:
1) 200$/300$ difference (double the price!) between launch price of PS2 and PS3;
2) You could watch DVDs on your regular TV. If you want to enjoy HD movies, you need HDTV, and that means you need more money. The majority of people are not ready to s...
I still doubt PS3 can win this war. It will end up 2nd (at best). Before anyone start flaming me, let me just say that I'm a PC gamer, and I'm not really interested in consoles + I have better things to do than playing games 5+ hours a day, so that's just my opinion. Also, I think PS3 will end up just like Xbox 1 last generation - there will be good games for the system, but it will not dominate like PS2.
Most of the PlayStation fans are NOT loyal. Do you really think those 100...
I think you've meant to say UNIFIED S H A D E R ARCHITECTURE, not UNIFIED MEMORY ARCHITECTURE. Memory on the graphics card (in standard PCs) will always be a lot faster than system RAM (which can be used for storing textures in case you're running short of graphics RAM). Unified shader architecture is something completely different...
One of the best comments I've read in a last few months. Have a bubble, my friend! ;)
It's really interesting how most of the people here think they know better than Micro$oft experts about technology and developers needs...
