The problem is that you DON'T know what build the trailer belongs to. It could be old footage that was put together for a trailer that Square held onto for the Advent Children US release.

Anyway, I believe that Square will release a very pretty product. After all, this is their cash cow, and unlike Last Remnant, they don't want it to be released in a sh!tty state.

Demo was pretty as hell (when I visited Japan, it was on sale so why not?) and as long as they improve ...

I doubt it. Carmack is trying to sell a multiplatform engine that can perform equally well on the PS3 and 360. To sell this engine, he needs to release a game that shows just this. When one version of the game renders at 640p while another renders at 720p, performance isn't exactly equal and the engine will not sell. This is the reason for the decrease in the amount of games using UE3. It doesn't translate well to the PS3 and as the PS3 accounts for 50% of games sales, that isn't a good engin...

Because that's where the game is currently at. However, if Carmack says he'll hit 60 fps on the PS3, then he will. Hell, according to 360 fanboys on yesterday's Rage thread, he's a development god so everything he says must be correct (when the fanboys were trying to bash the PS3).

This is the full quote from the Edge magazine. Unlike CVG who took a selected quote to get a rise out of fanboys, the full quote explains that they are currently at 25-30 fps on the PS3 and that once full optimization to the SPUs is complete, 60fps should be achieved. Any angry PS3 fanboy or gleeful 360 fanboy will be disappointed if they expected a half-assed PS3 sku.

Game is still in Beta dude. Relax. Optimization will bring that sucker back to 60 fps. Or do you think id will leave the game as it is? If so, you are foolish.

6085d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

No he doesn't. Sigh. The game is still early in development and just because one build has this disparity doesn't mean the final build will have the same. Carmack is a great programmer, and as he's selling a multiplatform engine, shipping out a game with such a huge disparity will never happen. No developer would touch such an engine. So basically both PS3 and 360 fanboys are overreacting.

Seriously, I own a PS3 but I just don't get the general dislike towards Gabe Newell or (now) John Carmack. These guys love their work and have delivered some great games through their companies. Hell, Team Fortress 2 is fun as hell (especially after the Spy update, gotta love the cloak and dagger!).

Anywho, the CVG article is full of misleading stuff, so don't expect it to be the truth. For one thing, the game is being planned for 2 disks on the 360 as opposed to the four mention...

6085d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Apology from CVG for quoting out of context? Will never happen. But you can bet your ass that Id is going to say something about this. Even though the game is coming out next year, it doesn't pay to have all this negative stigma around one sku.

6085d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

No, but if you honestly believe that Rage can run at 60 fps on the 360, then you are blind. Unless it is running at a lower resolution, that just isn't possible on the 360. Id may be masterful programmers, but they aren't miracle workers.

Look, without the full context of the interview, you won't know whether Edge or CVG misquoted Carmack. For all we know, he may be referring to the rasterizer, i.e., PS3 can rasterize at 25-30fps while 360 can do it at 60fps. This of course does...

6085d ago 3 agree5 disagreeView comment

You guys are honestly all idiots. I bet it is a typo on Edge's part.

Hell if Rage can run at 60fps on the 360, then why doesn't Gears of War 2? Why does the only shooter that runs at 60 fps look like Modern Warfare 2? Why don't all the games on the 360 run at 60 fps? Face it, it was a typo on Edge's part and CVG ran with it because it was a sensationalist headline. I bet it gets retracted in a little bit.

Last Remnant was a critical and commercial failure. It was not expected sell on the PS3 and thus was quietly canceled. Had SE not released Last Remnant as a timed exclusive, then they could have doubled their sales on the game. By the time word of mouth spread of its mediocrity, it would be too late.

Unfortunately, with a timed exclusive, the delayed version starts off with bad press to begin with. So SE pretty much dropped the ball on their "multiplatform title for the wor...

I obviously meant next gen games, i.e. PS3/360 calibur titles. Which means, releasing a 360 exclusive title won't really net them as much cash as if they were to have released the title on the PS3 as well.

Obviously, Square could just drop out of the home console business and stick with portables and make money with remakes and rehashes instead of blowing money on games like Last Remnant. But that was NOT what I was talking about.

6086d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

Er, what? SE knows they won't make a lot of money if they don't release a game on the PS3. They've been chart tracking and they have seen a new IP like White Knight Chronicles push 400,000 copies in Japan alone (which is about how many copies they have sold WORLDWIDE for their 360 exclusives)! They know that they cannot release any more 360 exclusives and hope to sell a million copies.

They've tried and failed to break into the Western market with 360 exclusives and have learned ...

I know Tri-Ace developed the game, but SE published it (and own the IP) so it is up to them as to whether they want to publish an enhanced port. If a PS3 port becomes anything like SO3 Director's Cut, it may become worth buying.

6086d ago 3 agree4 disagreeView comment

That is kind of ironic, but that really is the only disc based high definition option as HD-DVD is as dead as doornail. I'll wait for reviews though. This could turn out to be another Animatrix or Batman: Gotham Knight. Full of wasted potential.

6086d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

The sudden interest, Blaze, is that there is the possibility of it not sucking with a PS3 port. You know, SE could improve on the game by fixing the story and voice acting. Alone in the Dark was unplayable on the 360 but became somewhat bearable with the PS3 version for example.

If SE fixes pacing and story issues, gets rid of the atrocious English dub, and changes the creepy as hell doll look, then the game could actually be good. But until they do that, it will remain mediocre ...

Meh. If it is indeed a timed exclusive, than Square made a piss poor decision. Announce the game through the PSP remake and then release it on the 360, the console which PSP owners are less likely to own. Good job!

The game has gotten bad press (though considerably less than Last Remnant) and I don't think just porting the game will cut it. It will take some substantial improvements to the story and voice acting to get PS3 owners interested in the game.

Yes, the game sold well enough in Japan to warrant a sequel and additional attention towards localization ala Rogue Galaxy and Dragon Quest VIII. The US version should be better than the JP version as there is a Town Builder and better online options.

6087d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Er, not quite. PS3 version is higher resolution minus AA which accounts for the jaggies but sharper picture over the 360 version.

6087d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

Tri-Ace is developing Resonance of Fate for the PS3 and 360, so yes, they are a multiplatform company.
