You're right, there is a difference. The difference is that those games DOWNPLAY the seriousness and consequences of murder, whereas Manhunt forces you to think it through. Is it better to murder everything in sight like it's no big deal, or to strategize every killing?
I don't think that just because a game has you murdering things that aren't human makes it OK when the game itself conveys a high level of realism.
So, this is only for the Wii version?
So you don't play FPSs?
Other games make murder easy and thoughtless. Running someone over in GTA is commonplace, but it is still murder. Shooting others to kill them is the whole point of most FPSs, but the murderous activity is downplayed and yet it is still murder. The difference with this game is that more thought and detail is put into the action of killing. There are bad sides to all forms of murderous portrayal.
"executions are much more physical with the Wii controls, and we found we felt more immersed in the game world in general thanks to them."
This is one of the reasons I bought a Wii - more immersive gaming.
I really hope the UK reconsiders the ban of this game. What's the use of the rating system on the front cover if games that are of a certain rating will be banned? Perhaps the rating system needs to be re-evaluated to include more specific rating le...
SimCity DS, Brothers in Arms for the DS, AND Resident Evil Wii Edition? Man, I was gonna try to save money this month haha.
So you're advocating that ppl install Folding@Home on their PC, right? It'd be somewhat of a shame to give a shameless PS3 plug in this context just because the Wii is showing benefits outside of the world of gaming but it doesn't appeal to you like the PS3 does.
I think Take Two boosting Wii support is more newsworthy than other developers doing the same thing simply because many ppl think that the Wii is child-oriented (I bet many Wii-scoffers didn't realize that they had something in common w/ Jack Thompson). Take Two is known for their adult-oriented games so this news can be viewed as evidence against that perception.
It's safe to say that most ppl on this site will choose graphics over an innovative control scheme. Someone mentioned above that good graphics provide for a more immersive game, but I think a properly-implemented control scheme on the Wii could provide a level of immersiveness in a game that simply cannot be achieved by ANY degree of graphic realism. I'm not saying that there are games out there that exemplify this right now, but that the possibility exists.
It's similar bu...
I couldn't care less what a content manager has to say about the gaming industry.
You still fail to provide proof that the Wii cannot achieve the level of AI that "should" be present in Assassin's Creed or that the physics calculations in Motorstorm are too advanced for the Wii. Simply naming games isn't proof.
You may be correct, but I'm basically trying to help you differentiate fact from hype.
Care to give specific examples of AI and physics which the PS3/360 can do but that the Wii cannot? I'll assume for now that you only say things which you have solid evidence to support, so please share with us.
So basically what you've just said is, graphics = "total package".
Interesting.
What do trolls eat for lunch anyway?
The only selling point is the fun controller? Damn, I was hoping to get some fun Nintendo-developed games that won't be released on the other consoles...
My girl likes the DS version of Big Brain Academy so much that she actually went out today during her lunch break and bought this. Can't wait to play it tonight. I'm the one that actually owns the Wii, and this is her first videogame purchase EVER. Well-done Nintendo >=) lol.
The Wii and DS are the only consoles my girl will play. As soon as I hop on my PC or Xbox for gaming, she calls me a nerd haha.
It seems to be all about the intuitive controls and the type of games. She likes the brain-development games, minigames, and some Mario games (she doesn't like Paper Mario but likes New Super Mario Bros for the DS). She would never be interested in an FPS or racing sim which I guess is why I get called out when I play FPSs on my PC lol.

Bubble-up Lucidmantra, well-said.
Seems like a lot of extra hardware for the GunCon 3 system, but Time Crisis games are very fun so it's probably worth it.
Games such as FPSs and GTA DOWNPLAY the seriousness and consequences of murder, whereas Manhunt forces you to think it through. Is it better to murder everything in sight like it's no big deal, or to strategize every killing? In the end, it's all glorified violence.
And as PS360WII said, how is it OK for this violence to be portrayed as long as the control scheme is unrealistic? That's just plain dumb but totally understandable from the point of view of those who don't play v...
