As w/ any form of physical activity, it is recommended to take it easy at the beginning. As the body adapts and becomes less prone to soreness, swinging harder will provide continued fitness benefits. I challenge anyone to flex their abs during an entire game of Wii Sports baseball, tennis, or boxing.

Admittedly, while I don't currently fit into any of the 3 categories, I'm guilty of having been the 1st type of hardcore gamer with regards to Street Fighter II, Quake II, Perfect Dark (N64), and Tekken 3.

Most self-proclaimed hardcore gamer members of n4g fall into the 2nd category.

I am open-minded enough to be willing to play anything and am primarily concerned with having fun when gaming but I do not own all consoles and therefore cannot fit into the 3rd cate...

Wow, this looks really fun and engaging (no pun intended). This game's officially on my radar.

But wait until your grandkids are grown up and mature before telling them you were a "fanboy" and they might not think you're cool.

Strikers is actually NOT in stores in the US. The release date is set for next month. I would've liked the US to have a simultaneous release of the game but seeing as how soccer is much more popular there, I understand completely.

July 10th I believe. I'm actually really looking forward to this game.

I feel like Jack Thompson is putting too much focus on video games when in reality, movies and music are more mainstream and far-reaching. I think he's basing his efforts on a) money and b) the misconception that videogames are targeted solely at minors. As with any form of public media, parents should be the ones to decide the level of exposure to their kids. Jack Thompson is a gnat.

Older gamers know that fanboyism wasn't nearly as rampant back in the day as it is now though. I think this is because the internet gives every fanboy a voice as well as provide an easy outlet to spread his/her opinions.

lol, I still play RC ProAm at virtualnes.com every once in a while.

EDIT: OMG! virtualnes.com isn't as cool anymore! =(

Being a software developer myself and having used the Eclipse IDE before, I must say I'm pleasantly surprised by Sony's embracement of open development platforms.

Weird that this story was posted, cuz I'm currently in the process of getting SCUMMVMDS w/ some games to work on my DS. Loom, Monkey Island, and Day of the Tentacle... Mmmmm...

Your fanboyism has made you overly-defensive.

My comment had nothing to do w/ the PS3 or the 360, but the fanboy living inside your head was like, "Hey! I was hoping no one would mention the GBA cuz then everyone would look at how much it sold and find out that its sales were comparable to that of the PS3. He must be an xbot!"

Amazing.

I'm amazed at how many ppl are still buying the GBA.

The chances are high that EA will also have franchises on the Wii that won't ever make it to the PS3 or 360. The recent formation of EA's casual gaming division is an obvious move to cater to the Wii and/or DS. This division would've been created a long time ago if past systems were as successful in promoting casual gaming.

lol, you want a compelling storyline from Smash Bros? Reaching a bit, aren't we? Let me know when you find that compelling storyline in Forza or Guitar Hero.

Have you even played Raving Rabbids for the Wii? Not only is it fun and challenging, but it also happens to be one of the funniest games I've ever played. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume for now that you have played it, so what did you not like about it?

While I'd like to see the gaming industry return to an emphasis on gameplay over graphics, I don't think the Wii will be able to usher in that change. Too many avid gamers nowadays are obsessed w/ graphics and are narrow-minded toward new ways of interacting w/ videogames. The Wii would have to overcome both of these characteristics in order to bring about such a drastic change in gaming.

I wouldn't be surprised if the industry's focus remains on graphics until 2, 3, or even ...

Aren't gamers continuing to get older as well?

The DS homebrew scene is miniscule compared to that of the PSP. The reason the DS is killing in sales is because it has more games, games that appeal to a wider audience, and offers a gameplay experience w/ the stylus and dual screens that can't be paralleled on any other console. Most of the PSP-owners that I know personally make use of homebrew apps, so perhaps my perception of the size of the PSP homebrew scene is skewed somewhat.

Actually, the hackability and resulting ease of pirating PSP games may actually help bolster sales of the PSP hardware. Even w/out software piracy, the homebrew scene alone on the PSP is huge.
