Well the argument can be made that most of the people who were going to buy a 360 already have(gonna get alot of disagrees on this one). I would say there are more people on the fence waiting to buy a PS3 than a 360. On the other hand, the 360 still has some great games coming out in 08 which should move some hardware. I don't think VIsta is the most advanced OS ever. I'll disagree with you one tht one but you are right that everyone is now forgetting how much trouble XP had when it first came out and how much more popular 2000 was.
I'll tell you this much:MS would damn sure like for apple to fail and not get it's foot in the gaming market. It's bad enough there's little room for their Zune player in the Mp3 market thanks to apple.
Nintendo is without a doubt dominating this console war. The sales for the industry are great though. I guess our hobby can no longer be looked at as a niche market. Screw Hollywood!!!
I used to think it was a fad but I was underestimating the power and the potential of the casual gaming market. That being said, I could care less whether the Wii continues to sell well as it's not affecting the sales of the 360 and PS3 which, for most people, are their main gaming machine with the Wii pulling the rear(despite it's utterly phenomenal sales)
I hope they fail.

IE is pure crap compared to Firefox. My favorite feature is by NoScript. This makes Firefox much more secure than IE

Sony isn't overly expensive. Their Bravia sets are pretty good and well priced. I like Sony electronics but I would say that Samsung is better than Sony in LCD production.
While I agree with you to an extent your thinking is slightly flawed. Even if the US is the largest market Sony doesn't need to win. I don't understand why people seem to think this. If they can stay close to the 360(which comparing first year sales and worldwide sales which aren't bad by any stretch of the imagination)in the US then the PS3 will be fine because it will only pick up steam here and abroad.
