Why did 3 people disagree with me about how the xbox came about it's name?
Seriously, how? Straight from Microsoft themselves, that is how the name 'xbox' came about. It was designed by a group of microsofts direct x developers, but their focus tests found that directxbox wasn't liked. Xbox was, so they changed it to that.
Seriously, it's like disagreeing with someone saying Sony make the PS3 lol.
im sorry, so am i IMAGINING that there have been 6 FREE title updates to Gears of War 2 since it came out? each of those had pretty significant changes too.
updates do not have to be charged - but content is a different story. microsoft make a cut from everything sold on Live, so of course they want stuff to not be free. business 101 - if you want to make money, charge people for things!
also, there are 3 or 4 free Halo 3 map packs on Live, to go with free ma...
@Montoya:
you, like all of the sony fanboys (not saying youre one though, just that sony fanboys dont get it either), dont seem to realise that Microsoft and Sony have differing release strategies.
Sony announce a new exclusive the second its in the planning stages, so itll be YEARS before they release, meaning it always seems like theres a huge list of exclusives coming - despite the fact that some of them are still referred to as 'project such and such&...
@gaffyh: "For example, Red Dead is something like 4GB, would it be 4GB if it was PS3 exclusive? I guarantee it wouldn't."
why not? you said it yourself, on 360 developers have about 7gb to play with........so why is Red Dead only 4gb? thats only just over 50% of the available space? so why do you think that itd suddenly jump up even more in size if they had 25gb available when they didnt even use all available 7gb? that train of thought literally makes no sense....
@Z777:
the XBox was named as such because it was made by a group of Microsoft DirectX developers. it was originally going to be called DirectXBox, but was changed after focus testing.
the hypocrisy in this thread is laughable lol.
its been basically 4 years of 'gabe newell is one of the worst developers ever', 'gabe newell is fat and doesnt know what hes talking about', 'we dont want valve games on PS3 cause they all suck', 'gabe newell is a talentless fatty', etc etc............then as soon as he starts making games on the PS3 and says something negative about microsoft everyone on here loves him and says how great and wond...
they made that 100 million back and then made profit on top of it though. it was definitely money well spent no matter how you look at it.
@Verminox:
cars in forza 3 deform too, in 'real time'. real time != procedural. real-time means it happens while youre playing.
some forza 3 screenshots that clearly show deformed panels:

he also said ME to the PS3 3 years ago. and gears of war to the PS3.
basically if its an exclusive and not first party, he'll say its going to the other console.
question - has Pachter ever been right about anything video game related? im struggling to remember anything that hes said that wasnt blindingly obvious (like 'Call of Duty will dominate this month') that actually came true.....
WTF!? how did my last post get flagged as "Trolling"!?
all i did was state my opinion on the screenshots, then say that i probably wouldnt be buying the game anyway!!
i guess the same mod who took away 3 bubbles and banned me for 4 days objected to that post lol. typical N4G fanboy rubbish.
but people download full 360 games off Live now?
you do know that there is a HUGE library of retail xbox games available for download on live, dont you? most are only 3-5 gb in size. i live in australia where our internet is still stuck in the nineties, yet even i can download 3-5gb pretty easily.
our government has also passed a new National Broadband Network policy, and work has begun to give us 100MB/s broadband over like 97% of the country. when thats fin...
@rockleex: do you want me to list every retail xbox game available to download off live? there are like 50+ full retail games available to download. every single week they add another 1-2, without fail.
Live offered games as downloads before Sony did. it doesnt matter if they were arcade games, they are still games. warhawk is no bigger than some arcade games - shank is like 1.2gb!
also, to the guy laughing about Microsoft having to pay sony royalties to use ...
i kind of agree.
i mean, i probably wont buy Dead Rising 2 on release purely because its only 2 weeks after Reach comes out, and i KNOW that im going to be playing Reach online for a long time. i was going to buy a game on the weekend, but i thought 'nah ill only play it for a week because then reach comes out, so ill just buy it later'.
i mean, ill still buy those games, just not yet, so the industry still gets the sale.
i need to point out one thing that everyone seems to be forgetting and/or purposely overlooking - Burnout Paradise has full dynamic procedural damage. it does NOT, like the fanboys on here are claiming, use 'pre-canned' damage. if you run into something with the front drivers side corner of your car, the car will get damaged from that point, crumbling around whatever you hit. go watch ANY video of its damage, or better yet, PLAY THE GAME, and you can see this.
secondl...
the 360 version clearly looks sharper and has clearer details in the texture work - one look at the picture with the screen tear on the PS3 version and this is clearly evident. the PS3 version has that foggy 'washed out' look, especially on textures that arent right in the foreground, while its clean on the 360.
while i probably wont be buying this game on either platform, if i was going to get it based on these screenshots, id be getting the 360 version as it looks b...
blah blah blah, have another cry.
i dont care about graphics. unlike most people here, i grew up playing games on DOS computers and ataris, so dont for one second try and tell ME that i only care about graphics lol.
i can talk up/down whatever game i want, as i actually have the ability to play them as i own all consoles and a gaming PC. ill have killzone 3, crysis 2, gears 3, and halo reach all in my collection on the days they come out on, and ill play them...
hes first party, so i take his word with a grain of salt.
it is funny to watch on here though, as when someone from a sony-owned company say something like this all the PS3 fanboys say 'he knows what hes talking about, hes right', but when someone from Microsoft/Nintendo say the same about their company they bag them and bust out every insult under the sun.
neither console will EVER be maxed. being a software developer myself i know that there is ALWA...
lol @ jack_burt0n.
suppose you didnt realise that ALL of Reach's cinematics - including the intro - are 'in-engine' lololololol. thats right, it means they are running on the same graphics engine.
wouldnt it be incredibly funny if using this, people were able to fix most of the OS problems that Sony havent?
ie.
- pressing the PS button when theres a notification on screen takes you directly to that message/trophy
- cross game chat
- more streamlined in-game XMB (removing all the options that you cant actually access in-game)
Cydia and the like just made iPhones what they SHOULD have been to begin with. hopefully this will do the...
