i know that the Cell can do some graphical stuff, but the fact is that the vast majority of it is done through the GPU. anyone that thinks otherwise - ive seen some people on here say that Uncharted 2 is run nearly 100% off the CPU and the GPU just sits idle the whole time lol - has no idea what theyre talking about.
most of the Graphical stuff that the Cell does is just post-processing. got nothing to do with loading textures and character models or anything of the sort. things ...
the bit youre overlooking is this:
"so all models and assets are used for cinematics and for in-game. "
yes, you are seeing the EXACT same graphics as in-game. but its still pre-rendered. i applaud them, its a great thing to do as it keeps you immersed as youre not switching from awesome graphics that cant run on the PS3 to only 'great' in-game graphics. but this is how they hide load times.
the only things that is bad about it is it takes up ...
no, comments like these are needed to put people in their place when they go around saying the 360 is a failure. its anything but. just because in the 4 years its been out there have been 5 games (out of like 400+) on 2 DVDs does NOT mean that DVD is too small for this generation. like last generation, and the one before that, game sizes will get smaller again, while the games get bigger and better.
there are just some things that you dont need 20gb for. videogames are one of the...
you also have no idea what youre talking about.
the cell is a CPU, not a GPU. it doesnt matter how big a texture is in regards to the CPU. textures arent pushed through the CPU, theyre pushed through the GPU and RAM.
the Cell in the PS3 has 6 single threaded SPUs, running at 3.2ghz each. the 360 has 3 dual threaded (that means 2 threads each) cores running at 3.2ghz each. that means each console has 6 available hardware threads running at 3.2ghz.
Carmac...
look, no matter what ANYONE says, Microsoft have succeeded with the 360. will dvd be 'not enough' by the end of the generation? maybe. is it enough at the moment? certainly is.
seriously, just think about what capcom are saying. Lost Planet 2, as awesome as it looks, is just a linear action adventure game. there is no way in hell that it needs to take up more than a whole DVD when dozens of other games that are just as big and just as long as it no doubt will be dont even take u...
"Not to mention multiplats don't even use more than 1 cell I believe (others can correct me If I'm wrong) "
yeah, youre wrong. very wrong.
all i know is god of war 3 will be great, but nothing new, and CERTAINLY nothing that wouldnt fit on a dvd once you localise the audio, go to compressed 5.1 audio (and lets face it, 99.9999999999% of video gamers dont even have 7.1, let alone could tell the difference between compressed and uncompressed), and put all the...
i like how the screenshots used to show the graphics changes between alpha, beta and gold were just shots of master chief. the master chief model would be one of the very first things that is updated in a new Halo game - he's the main character!
if you were to show a video of some actual gameplay between the alpha, beta and gold versions - and actually limit the poll to non-ps3 fanboys - you would have gotten a vastly different result. but that wouldnt get the fanboy traffic that...
more power to the mod, he did exactly what he should do.
no doubt the guys that got banned were glitching and or being douches. you signed up for Live, that means you signed the terms and agreements. you break those rules, even for 1 second, and you can have your account and console banned. these guys obviously did. and pissing off a moderator isnt a smart idea, although these guys obviously arent that smart.
i personally wish the moderators would ban MORE people. pe...
yes, Uncharted could be done on the original playstation, minus the graphics. like i said, it essentially was by the exact same people, just with a different main character - crash bandicoot. same impression of big open levels, same disappointment when you see you basically just follow a corridor all the way through. same nice graphics for the time.
really, what do you think would be problems with having a graphically-down-graded Uncharted 2 on the playstation or playstation 2? ...
the fact is that 99.99999999% of people would NOT be able to tell the difference between a compressed image and a non-compressed one. compression algorithms are incredibly good these days - just the other day i compressed a Powerpoint presentation filled with high res photos from 120mb down to 3mb. that means i got it down to 2.5% of the original size, yet even on a HD projector that the presentation ran on, it looked the same as when it was 120mb.
compression is GOOD for graphic...
again, that doesnt mean that the cutscenes are not FMV. in-engine? yes. in-game? not necessarily. the easiest way to tell in games if the cutscenes are stored as videos is if you are able to customise the character at all - ala Uncharted and God of War. if you choose a different costume, but then the cutscene reverts to your normal clothes, it is indeed in-engine but is just a FMV stored on the disk. Uncharted does this, as did the original God of Wars iirc.
just because there is no CGI does not mean there are no FMVs stored on the disk. many games use in-game assets/engine for their cutscenes, but they store the cutscenes as FMV on the disk as this way they can get much more on the screen in the cutscenes without there being any slowdown etc. its still in-game graphics, its not CGI, but it is FMV.
Metal Gear Solid on the PS/PS2 did this a lot. it was all in-engine, but it was stored as FMV, therefor taking up a lot more space than i...
lol at anyone saying that games like god of war and uncharted wouldnt fit on a DVD, or even for that matter wouldnt be possible on 2 disks.
you do realise that both games are just straight point A to point B linear action games, dont you? both games are HEAVILY scripted, and both feature very little actual explorable terrain. theyre the type of games that could run on the original Playstation, albeit with a big hit in the graphics. take the graphics away from Uncharted 2 and youv...
i dont want to 'play' Heavy Rain on my PS3, so i dont want a Heavy Rain like game on my 360 either.
i actually like playing my games and being in full control of them rather than just doing quick time events for 8-10 hours.
heavy rain is good for what it is - an interactive movie. if you review it as that, you probably would have to give it an 8+ out of 10. but as a game, it fails miserably, and most people would probably give it a 3-4 out of 10, and even then thats...
peoples problems with the control scheme werent the actual controls - only an actual retarded person would not be able to adjust to having to click the analogue in to aim down the sights as opposed to holding a trigger in.
the problem people had with the controls were 2 issues, BIG issues, that should have been fixed well before the game was released.
1. the HUGE dead zone in the analogue sticks. it was literally something like 30-40% of the analogue sticks movement...
i dunno what game youre playing if youre seeing high-res textures, but its not Killzone 2, thats for sure.
like shadow flare said, but expanding on it even further - sega didnt just 'consider' sonic 3 and sonic and knuckles part of the same game, they literally were part of the same game.
it was all one big game, but the bosses demanded that they release the game on a certain date. there was no way that they were going to be able to finish the entire game, so they split it up into 2 parts - sonic 3, and sonic and knuckles.
uncharted wouldve been in development a year before gears was released, but people had seen video of gears since before uncharted was shown.
gears of war was in development before the 360 was shown to the public or even had its specifications finalized.
no need to thank Ben Franklin, someone wouldve discovered electricity if he didnt.
no need to thank Alexander Graham Bell, someone else wouldve created the telephone if he didnt.
no need to thank Thomas Edison, someone else wouldve created the light bulb if he didnt.
see what im getting at? its not a matter of 'oh someone else wouldve done it eventually' - give credit where credit is due. the first to do things are the ones deserve the credit, regardless...
people still play LBP? wow. that game got really old really quickly for me.
