Actually, this is a powerful marketing tool. Most consumers already have a hard time seeing difference between Blu-Ray and DVD movies, let alone a marketing gimmick telling them that the Toshiba upscaler will match almost any Blu-Ray movie at a fraction of the cost.
Sony should be concerned a little....
I would buy another one, maybe not at the $600 point, but $400. Sure, bring on the next generation.
After all, with every new generation, there is always a huge leap in graphic improvement and what a new console can do. Even the first 360 games looked considerably better than the the original Xbox. The difference in Xbox to PS2 wasn't that significant. That is why I'm for another upgrade. In reality, a 5-6 year lifespan for a console is an eternity in the technology world.

The PS3 Video RAM is faster. However, the bottleneck once you hit the 256MB barrier isn't the RAM speed, but the loading of the texture i.e. loading it off the optical disc or hard drive.
Optical discs and hard drives are immensely slower than even basic computer memory. I don't have numbers in front of me, but the factor is probalby at least a 100 times faster on video memory than loading off optical discs.
I'm actually suprised so many of you about are complaining about gnothe1 comment. He is accurate and I suspect you guys might have a misunderstood the PS3 architecture. It is true that 512MB ram on the PS3 is available at any time. However, not all the 512MB of ram is available for textures if the developer wish so. In fact the PS3 is limited to 256MB RAM for textures period!
The 360 allows for far more flexible use of the 512 MB ram available in exchange for a small performanc...
Looks like both sides have good arguments, both which one of you guys is actually a developer at a major game studio. Even if you are, it doesn't mean you will be misled. This one guys opinion based on his research and development in the field.
The bottom line I see is this, fair enough the unified memory architecture of the 360 is slower than the dedicatede memory of the PS3. However, the factor between the memory speeds is likely to be less than 10, but loading textures and s...
I think there are a lot of valid points, here and one could argue one way or the other. Only the actual game developers know best, but not necessarily all.
From what I can tell, it seems MS has made the sensible approach and made the Xbox 360 hardware easier to program and harness the technology. Sony on the other hand over-engineered the crap out of the PS3 and sure it is one technological feat it is a pain to get even comparable performance to the Xbox 360 out of it.

The guy is entitled to his own opinion. That is why it is called a review score.
I think it is fair that he is allowed to believe that there is factors that influence other reviewers. Look what happened to Halo 3, as it received overwhelmingly high scores. It was a great game, but that freaking many 10's? You really have to ask yourself if a game is overhyped, and it is in my mind no doubt that many games gets higher scores because of the anticipation or hype. Especially a game...
That is a terrible article/blog posting.
"Titles like Flow and Echocrome are far more innovative than 99% of games on the market, and a big-name title finds its way onto shelves every couple of months."
Why do people feel compelled to cite numbers that aren't necessarily correct? In this case it is more than just questionable! That sounded more like a rant and he was all over the place... There should be a standard for what can be approved on this site...
Cable/Phone companies are the biggest crook companies next to nigeran scammers. They always get protected from the government and each company has their little region of monopoly.
That is why they never butt heads, it is not a free market. Where I used to live, I could not get Comcast and was stuck with ATT. My new place though gets Comcast and so far has performed great well at least compared to ATT.
The article is spot on for me, framerate and camera issues are the two culprits. Most of the times I can play hours upon hours without problem though. Probably shouldn't though, being a responsible adult and all.
However, collector's edition should be a fan service, but has now turned into a money maker. Developers/publishers are now shafting their customers/fans!!!
It is about false marketing, not the fact that I can run down the street and get it at a different store. This is a punishment on the consumer, not the retailer.
How bad do you think a Walmart store will get their profit hurt if they do not receive 25-50 or even a hundred consoles? To begin with consoles are low margin product. It is in Konami's right to punish a retailer, but should do so without affecting the consumer i.e. their own customers. However, I would be equally ups...
Why would they withold shipment, when the consumer is expecting the item to arrive at the store on launch day. Basically, what happens is Konami is punishing the consumer. What they could do is withold future products, but not advertised products consumers are expecting.
This is typical Konami arrogance. Sony used to have this arrogance once....
Yes, some of you die hard fans will disagree with me. Although, I'm a die hard fan as well, but will look at a company...
When your exchange rate is at the lowest for you.... Although getting a stable job is a different story.
Just like the previous upgrade cycle, people complained about Windows XP and stuck to Windows 2000. Soon enough people where using XP and now complaining about Vista. Same old story....
MS will continue to dominate the operating system space no matter how much Apple, Linux, Unix or even Solaris fans cry.
This is actually a very common occurence with a non-American company. In my experience, if you want a product sample or documentation for anything from a American company they will fedex it to you next day. They want you to use their product and customer service is usually top notch.
If you want something from an Asian or European company, you have to jump through their hoops. Basically, you have to prove yourself worthy of using their product. It is is really bizarre. American...
Every now and then I enjoy games that aren't too serious.
Back in the day, cutscenes were awesome. Now every single game has it and they are giving you the same generic storyline over and over.
Now if they would come up with anything new, that would be great.
Not only will it hurt 3-fold as it is already hurting them now. Instead of a peacefull lose of a well known game designer, they lost their only game designer that has created something that makes Tecmo known. Tecmo is at this point so screwed and the worst part is it's over 1.5 million USD including the "the pain and suffering"...
True, but it's not like the majority of the people run a projector at home. Even at 50" it is sometimes hard to tell. It isn't like the dramatic difference between video tapes and DVD.
The host of additional features of DVD made it a great value proposition compared to video tapes. Blu-Ray carries a lot of features, but not much new and mostly incremental upgrade to picture quality (even at much higher resolution). I can't say the same for Blu-Ray, unless you put an DVD mo...
