This is a poorly written piece of text, unable to support most of it's claims:
"Why is it that Sony is the only company that has significantly worked to make their console as affordable as possible?"
In what way has Sony made their console more affordable? It debuted at the highest price point and is arguably one of the most expensive console out there. In terms of affordability look no further than the Wii (albeit without the 'HD' experience). Next on ...
It is funny how you put it, but aren't gamers interrested in games?
It sounds to me like MS did listen to their developers and created a machine that is easier to develop for. While Sony in their arrogance created such a sophisticated piece of hardware that developers have problems developing games for it.
In addition, MS implemented voice chat a long time ago, while Sony is playing catch up. PS3 still don't have a feature that was available in the original Xbox...
@SL1M DADDY:
The RROD was a significant widespread issue on earlier consoles, but with the introduction of the new heatsink on the Elite's and later the 65nm CPU and 80nm GPU hardware (Falcon) has almost eradicated the problem. Mostly older consoles are the ones suffering now. That is a serious issue, but warranties was extended and being honored.

There is a lot of things wrong wit America and the rest of the world, but European and Asian viewers decided to visit an American owned site. That gives a US court the legal right to decide on court cases.
Because other users live in different part of the country doesn't mean you are immune to US law (although sometimes you do get extradited).
I'm not an expert though.
PS3 isn't doing as bad as it looks even with all the empty promises from Sony, due to many highly anticipated franchises from mostly first party, but third party as well. In addition, they have the Blu-Ray player in its favor.
To furhter cement things, Sony has a remarkable brand power.
The title of the article itself says it all. They highlight the fact that PS3 is catching up with Wii, instead of the fact that one of PS3's biggest game of the year failed to move enough consoles to even catch up to Wii's slower months (without any big releases). Then they point out the obvious, MS is not doing well in Japan. No Sh1t!
The PS3 sales in Japan should have gotten much closer to Wii, considering the scale and the anticipation.
Why is Kojima listing his own game MGS as one of the most influential. Doesn't that seem a little pretentious?
... or am I missing something?
Apparently people aren't refusing it, so they keep putting these things out. Some games even sell stuff that is already on the disc!
It is here to stay and unfortunately it seems MS is at the forefront of ripping their customers off next to Nintendo ripping their customers off for a piece of plastic (Wii Wheel anyone?).
At this rate, going back to PC might not be as expensive. Almost everything that is part of the game is free after the game is purchased (sans e...
I'm not so sure the 360 sales are poor, considering MS practically don't sell consoles at all in Japan. Furthermore, PS3 is largely sold as a Blu-Ray player only!
I think the strongest telltale sign of a console's health is its attach rate. If people continue to buy games on the platform, developers/publishers will continue to release games. Sooner or later the terrible 3rd party sales on Wii will catch up with them (unless they make so much more shoveling crapware onto their c...
MS has done a lot of things right, while they still get sh!t thrown a them. Sure, they aren't perfect, but for some reason this hatred towards them is very strong especially in other parts of the world than the US.
For some odd reason Sony and Nintendo has such strong brand power.
@2.3:
That certainly is your opinion, but they way I see it is Nintendo just about killed the hardcore gaming industry. Everybody is now going for shovelware to the masse...
Although I think thief's should be punished, I don't think this is directed towards this kid. Let's face it, millions of theives work every day, some of these theives will eventually steal from a disabled/sick kid eventually.
These stories always make it sound like it is targeted and intended in a malicious way. Theives steal to make buck, it's that simple!
Yahoo has generally been a poorly managed company and actions like this proves it. I firmly believe that Yang was lucky when he started the company as their were no real good competitors. As soon as a good competitors show up, they will eat the other company for lunch!
I'm glad I don't own shares in Yahoo. Google is a better bet now even at a premium, at least they have an upside and has shown good managment.
People make comments about how great GoW 3 is, but the darn game isn't even out yet. For all I know, the game could start getting 60% reviews! Not that I care, because in the end if I enjoyed the game what does it matter the game score.
If I'm hesitant about a game I might read a few reviews, wait for the price to drop right and buy or rent it! I care more about what the reviewer said, than the final score.
It was long day when I posted that comment. Anyhow, what I'm saying is that there is nothing green about their initiative to go to a lower manufacturing process. Their goal isn't to lower electricity use and go green, but rather to decrease manufacturing cost of their semiconductors. As far as I can tell there has been no major complaint about power consumption on the PS3, it barely peaks out higher than a launch 360 and is significantly using less powr than your average gaming PC.

Walmart has one of the most lenient return policies (90 days) and a pricematch guarantee!!! They used to allow retuns without a receipt as well, but consumers abused it and I think they no longer offer it.
I don't like the people that WM employ, but think about it these are the people that probably would not get a job anywhere else. WM has made products cheaper for consumers as well as provided jobs for people that otherwise will not get one!
I have also heard th...
ohhhh thank you almighty Sony for going green.... my ass. They are just reducing die size to reduce cost. Nothing green about it, besides a lot of green initiatives just appears to be green, but in many cases actually causes more pollution.
Don't believe everything you hear about companies going green!
I agree with you wholeheartedly, but Sony's pricing is above the price structure that most people that aren't hardcore gamers are willing to pay.
The one thing though is that it has a Blu-Ray player as an added value that may sway consumers to buy it. MS console is much more affordable (core) in terms of price, but does not have the games to appeal to the right demographic and neither does Sony at the moment.
The way MS saw it was probably they are on par or above Sony in those months and they had the core model at a very competitive price. Why slash prices, when they hope that GTA 4 would move consoles. MS strenght is in the US and had a decent sales rate. Basically there is no real incentive to drop.
I would assume that price drops rarely appears right before a big title unless the company is desperate. There is nothing good for 360 out recently other than NG2 that appears to be s...
I see nothing wrong with bladestar's comment. It is true that Sony appears to be loosing money for each console sold and Sony isn't as cash rich as MS.
Sony is bleeding money and are hurting. Why do you think the Stringer has to instill confidence in their shareholders? Because a $3.2 billion loss is no small sum.
I don't expect a price cut and most likely if 360 sells well, we might see 40GB PS3 with a game in the box and/or movie. A price cut from Sony would si...
Production of Blu-Ray discs actually aren't that much more expensive than say DVD at high volume, we are talking about at most $1 here and considerably less at that high volume.

The majority of the cost is in development, marketing and the risk involved in starting such a large scale project. Don't let the blu-ray camp fool ...
