Yeah, I like Gamasutra's analysis as well. They often have older data points to prove their point and frequently point out things I didn't think of.
Unlike the endless blogs spouting the same numbers they found reported a gazillion times with little new information spelling doom for the video game industry.
To some extent that is true, but Tretton misses a point:
A large portion of the PS2 games are in the $20 range for quality high profile titles. A $30 drop in system price is about 1.5 quality games. That in relative terms is closer to $45-60 on the Xbox 360 or PS3. Furthermore, the market is saturated with PS2s.
For me personally, I want a PS2 (since my PS3 isn't BC). However, I still think that $100 is too much for a PS2. Why? Due to the commitment of having to buy ...
What are you talking about? What "zero" sales growth?
If you are talking about revenue, then that is expected when the console is significantly cheaper. If you are talking about profits, then show it. As far as I can tell, profit should be up as each console is sold at a profit. In addition their Live Gold subscription continue to grow and games are selling well. Look at Halo Wars it posted about the same lifetime sales number as KZ2.
If on the other hand y...
It's funny how the so called lack of blu-ray drive has not affected me in getting the games I want to play on the 360. Neither has it affected me in gaming, yet I will soon run into the issue of running out of disc space on my PS3 due to all the supposedly optional installation options or wait forever syndromes.
Do I want
a) mulitiple discs a 10 second disc swap (X360). Sure the disc swap is inconvenient, but seriously....
b) potentially have to delete ...
As far as I know, there are only a few ways to cheat:
- Rage Quitters: I think a solution to rage quitters is award the party that is ahead the win if it detects a lost connection.
- Lag switch: Solution is dedicated servers
- Rapid fire: This is easy to detect with in-game algorithms
Are there any other ways to cheat, other than playing a game in a different way than it is intended to up the stats and perhaps exploiting certain glitches?
I used my Xbox 360 heavily since October of 2007. It is one of the first few Falcon models. I had one freeze in Bioshock and recently had frequent freezes in NG2 (after I installed it). Other than that, not a single problem....
Massive hardware failure is unacceptable, but the newer models have all but almost eliminated it. My Falcon (not Jasper) Xbox runs very cool.
Sure my defective free experience doesn't apply to everyone, then again RROD/E74 doesn't apply to eve...
@lazyone
It is a personal opinion and so it will differ.
Are there any good adapter of some sort that I can use my 360 controller on my PS3? Not just the pad, but also for stuff like joysticks. I mean after paying $150 for a joystick, you think they would enable you to use it on both consoles.
Something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg like the XCM stuff.
Capcom charges you for DLC, you b!tch about it. Capcom gives you free DLC, you use the opportunity to b!tch about it!
This is free content so why b!tch about it? Stop b!tching and enjoy the game!!!
After some further thinking, I don't think a price drop will come soon. Why?
- A significant price drop where it is potentially a sales increase is sustainable beyond 1-2 months need to be at least $100 and set the price below $300 range. This will cost Sony in the US alone $300 million, assuming Sony continues to sell 3 millions console pr. year as in the past.
- The US is all but taken by Wii and the second spot is taken by MS. It is going to be difficult to catch ...
Unsuprisingly the fanboys got this article failed, some even reported it as duplicate since we can read numbers. Maybe we should start failing all articles that talk about the RROD since it is old news and is infinitely duplicated!
Nitpicking is a good thing, my spelling is terrible now since I pick up a lot of others spelling mistakes. It only takes a second to spell check.
However, I would still like the news and as others pointed out even articles from big publishers has mistakes.
If we fail real stories with spelling mistakes, the only one that do spelling mistakes are blogs about xyz console failing will make it! Now that would make everyone here happy right?
That is kind of wierd, that the PS3 version got the gimped DLC. The PS3 version sold really well and almost outsold the 360 in total sales in the US. In terms of relativity to install base, it handidly outdid the 360. Why no love from Capcom?
The 360 version got gimped in the LE edition, but the game itself had slightly better visuals on the 360:

Well, one could say that there were less competition in February/March. I mean just look at the competing games during the same time frame:
Halo Wars (X360) 640K
SF IV (PS3) 585k / (X360) 938k (outsold KZ2 for the month! Released in the middle of February.)
MLB 09' The Show (PS3) 305k (outsold KZ2 for the month!)
What? SF IV in it's non debu month sold almost as much as KZ2's lifetime sales to date!
I own all three consoles and really...
You also got to look at the type of game, RTS traditionally is one of the genre's that do very poorly on consoles in general (not on specific platforms other than PC). A 500k sales of an RTS on any console platform is considered a huge success.
If we had to throw in other things to justify the lead:
- Xbox has a lot of defective consoles, so the userbase isn't as large as every one claims...
- Market for this game is smaller
- Halo Wars was on released al...
"Sales and expectations vary from developer to developer. Although this is still a very early snapshot of the Community Games sales potential, we’re finding that several of our top sellers will be taking home almost as much income from four months of sales as the average U.S. citizen earns in a full year." - Aaron Greenberg about XNA games
I believe the average salary in the US is 30k. That is not exactly a groundbreaking sales number for a game that can take a year to ...
Although it initially look interesting, it failed to impress me especially after trying the demo. In my opinion, the control scheme was pure cr@p!
I could care less if a game is exclusive or not. What I care about is if the types of games I want to play is available!
Let's put it like this, on the top of my mind Bioshock (turned multiplatform), Rainbow Six Series, Call of Duty series, SF IV, Lost Planet (turned multiplatform), Resident Evil 5 and the list goes on. What is common about all these games? They are in my opinion all great games and all multiplatform. So I don't care if the games are multiplatform or not!

lol... at your wall text. Trying to drown me with your words? I ain't reading all that even with my patience.
Reality is that last generation PS2 owned the market, why would any small developer want to develop for any other console? Especially when the difference in processing power between the big three (or should I say four for the late Dreamcast). It wouldn't be very wise would it unless you are in some kind of niche market?
What difference does it make if the stu...
