Making games because he is able to truly shows that he enjoys doing this. I also like that Francis wants to respect the player's time.

I recently tried out a game that did not respect my time, despite my friend warning me about it. Burnout Paradise. I loved the previous installments, but in this one I had to sit through basically the same sequence every time I did anything at all, and the whole game is designed in a way that does not fit the franchise at all (free roaming...

I really like Tom Francis' way of doing dev logs. He is really charismatic when he talks, and he seems to have a very down-to-earth way of explaining things. On top of that, it's interesting and fun to see all the little achievements in his progress and how happy he is about them.

I like how much you see in the timelapse compared to how short it is. The docking system changing, the rooms taking shape, guards being added, then systems/weapons, mission objectives developing, ship intel/computers, loot system added, control mechanisms developing, heat signature changing, autosaves being added.

Favourite quote: "By neutralising this spaceship you've won a meaningful and character-developing victory."

Looks like the game could...

To the people who didn't understand it, it's a parody on The Last of Us Remastered. It's not supposed to be taken seriously. It comes off as more spiteful than funny to me, though.

And Eidos is now owned by SQEX. Square Enix is mainly a publisher today, and they own quite a few great franchises at that.

Their "own" games mainly include old franchises, and they are often co-developed with other studios. Their current projects include Bravely Second, Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy stuff (which hopefully does get better, even though it looks bleak after XIII and XIV). They've recently remastered KHI and II, as well as FFX, X-2 and XIV, ...

Ah, Bomberman and Worms, two of my favourite games (franchises?) when growing up. I guess Worms 2 and Super Bomberman 2 were the ones I played the most with my friends. I clearly see the Worms part. I had a lot of fun playing Liero with my friends back in the late 90s, which was somewhat of a moddable, Worms inspired game. Gun Monkeys looks very similar gameplay-wise, but the singularity of it also shines through.

Well, it's not free per se, but the developer is handing out free codes randomly, because the game has had issues filling the lobbies for lone players. He said it had already paid for its development and considers it a success, but while many players may be playing private matches as he intended, some are stuck in empty lobbies.

An alternative would be not to have a lobby system at all, but I think having one, even if empty, trumps just not having one. Marshall's work...

The 1-on-1 style reminds me a bit of the olden days playing a real time Worms-like game called Liero. It was immense fun with various maps and weapons, and we got a lot of laughs and good times out of it. I might be starting to get a bit old to be able to relive that same experience, but I'm sure the potential is in there. Assuming it has offline local mode as well.

Looks like a fun game to play! Seems a bit MOBAish, but only with two players at a time? It would perhaps work well even with four to six players.

I don't really know what to think about SoundSelf. I guess I'd like to try it out, especially in a VR setting, but I don't really see the appeal beyond that initial curiosity. I can certainly see people getting lost in this "game", but I don't think I'm that kind of person.

"...when I engage with a piece of art, it's about my relationship with myself, about how the art makes me feel."

I agree with this notion, but I can also see Wreden's point of view if I'm not mistaken. I like hearing about people, their creative processes, their ideologies, everything, but when I play games or use programs, I don't feel like I need to know who made it or why it's like this. It needs to stand on its own and not just as an extensio...

Arnott's reasoning behind this "game" is interesting, but I think it would be much better served by calling it a programme or a piece of software. It should be its own genre of software, related to audio stations. Allowing the patterns in feedback to be modified by certain rules could enhance the experience to what the user wants out of it.

On another note, seeing someone lost in this with Oculus Rift covering their face would probably also be a unique experienc...

SoundSelf certainly looks unique as a game, but I'm not sure that I would call it that at all. Arnott wants to invoke sensations in the users, but can't music and video do that? What makes this so unique? Is it just the fact that it's being described as a game? Can a synthesizer with an audio visualization on a monitor be game?

I do wonder what all the fuzz is about though. It has a lot of nominations from games festivals, as well as some high-brow quotations list...

I think it just looks like a sound visualizer with a synthesizing effect. It reacts to sound by making visual patterns and modifies the sound. I wouldn't call this a game, and calling it a "feedback" device for input seems more correct. There's no goal or anything. It's described as a meditative experience, but does the fact that it's an interactive experience make it a game?

I guess it depends on whatever definition you'd like to use. Dear Esthe...

Well, you'd win a gift card representing the game, not the actual games.

I don't know if feelings were what thought about in all the games in their past projects, but with Hunicke's very own Journey, that certainly seemed like a design philosophy. From the flow in gameplay, to the music, to the adventurers you meet. If that's what they're going to be going for in the future, then it's certainly worth checking out all of their following games. I think it's a bit of a shame to shine the spotlight on something that "doesn't exist"...

Seeing what these people can do with virtual reality is worth looking forward to! I played many of the games in their past projects, and this seems like a solid working team. Journey is a masterpiece, and I had a very good time playing it in one sitting with a complete stranger over the net. It's a shame that there's no more info on the upcoming games, though.

Grefsrud seems like a unique person, I'll give him that. It's good to have both innovative guys and iterative guys as developers. Their game seems to be bound by an old and tried genre at the roots, but with their own unique twist added to the way the gameplay unfolds.

I hope Myriad does well. I can especially see the Vita being a good platform for it. Just make it compatible with the stick controls as well, so the PlayStation TV doesn't make it entirely redundant...

I'm curious to see how Myriad plays when it's done. It looks like a good game to play for short periods of time, and preferably on the go. I came across this video Erlend Grefsrud posted last year: https://www.youtube.com/wat...

I am a bit envious of Erlend. I feel a bit like him, being a game designer at heart. I have tons of great ideas (in my mind), but given my current situation, I don't see how I'd realise them.

At least Erlend can realise his dreams and ideas, and it seems he has found the perfect media for it. I don't think he'd enjoy being a cog in the AAA machine, even if the machine wasn't making copies of yesteryear's good game.
