Sony arrogance? Sony didn't. tout this holiday's releases as the "best ever...". Sony didn't claim that the first to a certain number of consoles wins. This probably the most humble and quiet that I've seen any company with a sales lead this big. While they are still making some decisions that make me scratch my head at times, Sony is handling this gen in a very professional manner. (not saying that MS isn't...but we can't deny that it's been rough for th...
Even QB, unless we're talking about the series connection with the game (which was also done) is more of an expansion of the previous time shifting mechanics that we've seen before. Not knocking the game because it looks like it will be quite fun. But, in some way, we've been there before.
Agreed. It's the power of these consoles and the ever important "graphics and framerate" quest that has AAA devs competing over who can make essentially the same game, but prettier. Since indie studios don't have the same idea of risk (they are totally in YOLO mode), they are willing to put it all on the line for their ideas. As for the term "indie", I do believe that they are vitally important. But, I don't want to change the term. What I want is for people to...
I think that some of what you listed is more of the natural progression of their respective genres. I will say, however, that there are still some games that are at least taking risks with their design. As you mentioned Dreams, and I'll add NMS to the equation. But, overall, it's still a bit stagnant on that front. IMO, it's because we are still early in the gen and everyone is still trying to impress by just using the pure horsepower of the systems.
THIS is one of my key worries with the future upgrade idea. It will be far too easy for devs to just keep pushing graphics and stability and ,move away from what truly makes games unique. We'll get a crap ton of copy-paste, but very pretty games. Innovation is often pushed by being forced to do the most with the least.
Plus, as the article said, the studio had been stripped down to the point where they felt that they couldn't undertake much more than this type of game (assuming the F2P model).
@whoyouwit04...guess old habits die hard. lol
This seems to provide more evidence to the fact that, although MS has huge amounts of cash and could theoretically spend for years, there are some restrictions as to how much they can or will spend. (much like every other company in the industry) No knock on MS, just maybe adding common sense to the ubiquitous notion that MS has virtually unlimited resources to apply to gaming.
Agreed. I'd love to see another story based game set in that war. It seems like the modern war that they stay away from the most...aside from the Korean.
One game, a new and indie IP at that, will not be enough for Sony to risk toppling the entire economic ecosystem of Playstation by setting $60 as the standard price for indie games. The only thing that THIS is saying is that Sony thinks the game is worth that much. If the price is too high, as you suspect, then it won't sell enough at that price and the game will be sold cheaper. Just as if Sony tried to raise the price of a standard game and everybody else stayed at the same price, the m...
"if u ask me." Glad nobody did! LOL
Seriously, if you don't like it then don't buy it. But, don't label everyone "insane and morons" for paying to experience this game. I'm sure you've paid full price for a game that I don't think is worth it. The difference IS...I respect a person's right to choose what to do with his or her money.
From what I understand, the planets have beacons at points of interest. You have a pulse to find your ship. Now, it's just a matter of being smart about how and where you explore. That's the very nature of survival and exploration. People will have to unlearn some bad habits for sure but, IMO, it adds to the experience of being the first to discover something.
Depends on how you choose to play. I would guess being a space pirate would render combat much more useful.
THIS...SO MUCH THIS!!!
Maybe something that gets added later...once people actually get to experience the original vision.
The problem won't be the coordinates, it will be gathering the resources and necessary upgrades to reach each other. From what I understand, each player is randomly placed within this 18 quintillion planet universe at the start.
I'm assuming the game related save data can be accessed directly from the game sidebar, as opposed to actually having to go though the settings to access save data. For easier data management.
@Moldy...initially they managed to get the PS2 to run by actually including the chipset in the PS3...which was part of the high price tag that people complained about. It was only later that they were able to emulate.
So, after working on the game for 2 years, 70 hours a week, and probably weekends for the last couple months of crunch time, devs are lazy because they took a break right after launch? Really!?!
Look, I get the frustration. I do. But, these people aren't robots. They need breaks too. It's common practice for dev teams to get that time right after a major launch. Plus, by the way you laid it out, they didn't do that bad. Patches can't just be thrown out. They have to t...
I think that your idea of "hideous months" is a bit overstated.
