E.T. didn't crash anything. However, it WAS one of the best examples of why the crash happened. Plus, it was just Atari that suffered. Coleco and Intellivison went down as well.

GTA VI would be too soon, at least in comparison to the way Rockstar has usually handled the franchise. Maybe Red Dead will show up. (with a slim chance of Bully) GoW could be a thing. I can't even remember what I saw of The Agent, but it would be welcome.

Aah...got it. That being said, in the running doesn't mean lock. Not to mention that there have been indie titles that have snatched that crown from the big, AAA devs before. This IS stiff competition, though.

@TwoForce...like I said, it's a perception. I personally don't share that outlook. But, that is the rallying call for those that seem to be upset.

I don't think it's the 'hype' that will do it. It's going to be unfair expectations...meaning wanting the game to be more than what it is or is supposed to be. (those that hyped the idea, but didn't quite grasp how the idea would be delivered within the game.)

The team (of 4) have already stated that they plan to support the game. They are open to ideas to enhance people's experience with the game. Since they are independent, they really don't have much else to do BUT continue to work on it and collect profits to put toward it and the next big idea.

Does that make it NOT worth $60, or was that just a random question?

I would say the ambition lied in the very idea of creating a survival exploration game with 18 quintillion planets. That being said, it is a bit audacious (as in bold and risky) that they dare to challenge the conventional thinking toward indie pricing. I can't say right now that it IS or ISN'T worth it. All I can say is that I can't wait to play and find out for myself.

The basis is that there is a preconceived notion that indie titles are all 8-bit clones and are never worth the price of AAA titles.

IMO, the "real test" is will I be playing this more than a month from now? Will I want to play through it again (for single player)?

What about bacon wrapped boobies???

Many females have discovered that, much like in the real world, sex sells. Plus, they have worked the system. To get partnered on Twitch requires steady viewership over time. These females have figured out that they can get that viewership by showing some skin. What happens then is that people flock to the channel to either look at. boobies, flirt, or troll. It doesn't matter to the streamer because all they meed is views. Once they get that partnership, they just ban the trolls (some sti...

If you are talking about shortened from last gen, that was an aberration. The average was about 5 years with Sony deciding to support the older console for another 5 after. (MS decided to adopt that strategy of the extended support with the 360.)

If Halo couldn't do it, I'd be shocked if anything else can. Every little bit helps. But, I see nothing to stop the momentum of Sony other than a MAJOR misstep by Sony.

It's not only a fanboy thing...it's now a generational thing. For some reason, this gen has been full of hawks waiting to scream "downgrade pre-order cancelled" at the drop of a hat. All companies, at some point, have been guilty of using CGI, pre-rendered or in-game assets, even post produced touch ups. Yet, it's only THIS gen where it has somehow become a deal breaker. Personally, if it plays great and looks passable, I'm all in.

While you are correct about the AAA budgets, you have to factor in the fact that a lot of that money goes to these large dev teams and not necessarily the game itself. IMO, you reward devs for work on games that YOU want to play. Whether that be indie or AAA, just buy good games and let the market take care of the rest.

What people are missing about the argument is that they aren't all "passion projects" from small teams. Every indie title is different. Indie titles today are the middleware titles of the past. They fill the void between AAA releases. Just like middleware titles, it's really up to you to decide IF they are worth it to you. But, to relegate every indie to a certain price point doesn't do justice to the strengths, sizes, lengths, and content of each individual title.
