IMO, the best Madden ever. It truly was a great football game. The ability to create your own plays put that one over the top. The on the field play had the right balance and feel. A lot of the current gen bullet points of the past 3 games were in the game...no bullet points...just part of the game of football. The only football game that was better was NFL 2K5...and that was because they brought the game play AND presentation.
BUT, is it $65 worth of better? Do those improvements actually warrant a new purchase of the game. The problem for me is that the changes that they made don't out weigh the legacy issues that Madden has had for years. Crossing route collisions, no consecutive hit tackling, magnetic db tackling (the back hump animation!?!?), momentum is there but not truly respected, contrived "highlight" moments (like db and lb ankle breaks when they aren't even in the play), etc. The things...
The Forlan choice is not a bad one. He was about the only player that could control that ball on shots and free kicks during the World Cup. I wouldn't mind seeing Mueller, Sneijder, or Villa on their either. All of them had impressive individual showings at the World Cup, so it would make sense.
couldn't have said it better myself.
I just can't go back to the norm after those tackles! It is almost...dare I say...BORING to play NCAA or Madden. I often physically cringe when I am about to lay a hit or get hit myself. I can't remember the last time I did that with Madden. Ultimately, I just think that Madden needs a complete re-tooling. I think I just got bored of the same mechanics, whether tweaked or not, over and over each year. It's burnout. Rumor has it that 2K has a football game, that they have been worki...
Hate to bust your bubble...not literally...but I am black AND I lived in Japan for 3.5 years. You do realize that the Japan still has a large US military presence right? There are bases spread all over the place. Which means that there are indeed black people in Japan. When I first moved there, at age 12, we lived off base. There was a guy that looked like a typical black guy, but in fact was mixed. He spoke no English. Probably the result of his mom hooking up with some military guy or somet...
That's kinda like saying you'd think that Sony would have had a few good games where the X button made a difference. I know, a bit of hyperbole, but still a valid point. See, Sony added Sixaxis controls as a FEATURE set of the controller. It wasn't intended to be the only way to use the controller. Thus, they didn't force developers to use it. It is a developer choice and some games have chosen to use it slightly, a lot, or not at all. It's developer choice, not Sony manda...
can last for several years right??? I am by no means implying that motion controls are a fad. But, I also am not willing to buy into the concept that it is the next revolution of gaming. I'm just saying that it is too early to decide whether this new style of gaming will be around for generations to come. Although I will assume that with all of the money making potential of 3 consoles doing it, it will probably make it's way into the next generation.
But, I think that people have fallen in love with the idea. The idea of "Minority Report" style controls is intriguing. The idea of controller-free gaming is a cool idea. Consumers will eat that idea up. The problem here is that we still don't know whether or not MS can deliver on those particular ideas in the way that consumers have idealized. Your choice is your choice. I have no issue with that. Same with the Move or the Wii. My issue is simply that popularity these days does...
The problem with a bloated economy, i.e. most of the 90's, is that companies feel the need to expand and grow in relation to their profits. However when the economy eventually stabilizes or worse, turns downward, you have massive layoffs. This has less to do with AAA titles costing so much and more to do with companies overestimating their profit margins and overspending. As you stated, they need to become more efficient. Maximizing engines is part of the issue. Cutting the fat would be a...
It seems like they actually went back to the way the game used to play. Looks like there is more control over your touch passing. The animations don't look quite as stiff as before. I still need a demo to get the overall feel of the game. It's nice to see PES trying to undo the last couple of lackluster performances. Guess I'll have to play FIFA as well to get a good comparison. Competition FTW!!!
This is basketball nirvana!!! You have a consistently great game and the G.O.A.T. in the game! What more can you ask for? I was in when they said you could actually play as Jordan. Now that they are planning to offer these game challenges WITH the classic Bulls teams...I can't wait! I also heard that they were going to have Jordan represented at various ages (with skills tweaks as well). What about rookie Jordan vs. comeback Jordan???
People are stupid enough to pay for stuff like that. On the first night of Tiger Woods 11 there were people hitting 350 yard drives. How? They paid to max the stats of their characters! It's amazing that someone would actually NOT want to enjoy the natural progression system in these games. But, as P.T. Barnum once said, there's a sucker born everyday!!!
if you are referring to The Boondocks lasting for more seasons...it has been rumored that this will be the last season. But, there is also a rumor that this is because Aaron McGruder wants to do a full length Boondocks movie.
That when I saw Jordan on the cover and, most importantly, IN THE GAME that I was sold. How can you go wrong with playing as the G.O.A.T.?
Although I was a hardcore EA sports gamer on the PS2, by the end of that gen (when 2K came to PS2) I made a switch. I bought both the NFL and NBA series from Visual Concepts and really haven't looked back. I check in every year in hopes that EA will do something to win me back. As of yet I have found very little reason to return.
Core gamers, as you called them, left the Wii for a reason...core games were far and few between. I love Nintendo like the next person. But, I shouldn't have to wait 6 months between releases of core experiences. This is the fault of Nintendo first simply because they pandered to the "casual" gamer (who is proven to only buy 2-3 games maybe in a year). They basically abandoned their hardcore Nintendo fans (up until E3 this year). They have basically rested on the laurels of thei...
LOL
therefor there were some things that are inherent to the football experience (subtle nuances and rules) that were missed. They had no idea that the replay was such an important feature. They had no idea that user catching on offense and defense was so important. Plus, the devs were pushing for a schedule...after missing the first release date. Corporate decisions sometimes force games out when they are not quite tweaked. As far as sales, I seriously doubt that the game would have sold tremend...
It's like a game of Simon Says. I just wonder what happens if you just stand there and stare at the screen. Will your avatar on-screen still move? From the videos that I have watched, it didn't track the dancing 1:1. It just did the usually stutter that you see in dance games when you miss a move.
I found this article interesting. On NG4 we often debate the quality of games, their reviews, etc. and don't really take into consideration that the devs hands are often tied by what the publishers want. FPS's seem to be the flavor of this gen, so if a publishers says, "here's $50 million, make the best one" and the dev says, "well, we had this new idea for an action adventure game" they are clearly at odds. What happens? The dev tries to shove their interestin...
