For what it's worth, their mobile teams and console teams aren't stepping on each others' toes. It's not like a game on mobile means they aren't going to make a proper Octopath 2 for consoles. If anything, this might show they have faith in the brand and are keeping the title in the gaming zeitgeist (lol) so interest might be up when a sequel is announced. Or that they have faith in the IP and are interested in trying to grow the audience before a sequel hits.

Yanks. Short for "Yankees". An old term from the Civil War that now just means American. Though practically no American uses the term to refer to themselves or others, it's a term you mostly see used by people from other countries (in my experience, Brits are the main users of the word). It's a truly harmless word, though in cases like how it was used by OP, Yanks takes on a bit more of a negative connotation. Not anything approaching a slur or anything, just lightly pejorat...

It's more like "people are FKN morons". 'Gamers' is such a broad target that any criticism levied against us basically can't miss.

The quote "every movie is someone's favorite movie" comes to mind in these kinds of situations. When someone truly loves something, they can get irrational. Even those irrational people would denounce a death threat, but a small percentage of those irrational people are simply off the deep end...and have ...

Hey, we didn't tell Sony to change it in the first place, and we didn't tell them to make it a worldwide change! Us Yanks have plenty of other things to be blamed for, so let's lay this trivial thing at the feet of the entity to which it belongs :-p

Actually, after a quick dig around the web, I don't think that's the case in this scenario.

I found that this is a 1500VA/900W unit, much like their BR1500MS unit, which has an MSRP of $280 (seems to sell around $240). This "gaming" UPS retails for $259.99, so it actually appears to be fairly priced in their product stack. I haven't done exhaustive looking, and I'm not on top of the UPS market, but it seems more like a product designed to get more ...

Digital might be a threat to physical games sales and their businesses? Crack reporting, CNN!

I love that they also hide it behind a "why" headline - like anyone who would care to read in the first place isn't already acutely aware as to why. It's always kind of bizarre when you see articles like this literally years after the discussion around the topic has been fully explored. I mean, this discussion was happening over a decade ago at the advent of digi...

TechnoFascist and leftist politics? Which is why tech companies like Facebook basically turned a blind eye to clear Russian interference in the election which was...very much not left.

And then you brought in free markets, which I find confusing. And you feel that the left is the downfall of the free market? If so, that's...an interesting stance.

Fanboys will always fanboy, one side or the other. Bottom line: 1440p and up? Perfectly good, whatever the console. I play a lot of my PC games at 1440p on my TV because at that distance, the difference between 1440p and 4k is hard to distinguish (and it either unnecessarily taxes my GPU, or I'd have to turn a few settings down which is definitely not worth extra pixels in my book). And with temporal/software based upscaling, the differences become more minimal and they help to avoid any ...

I don't even pay $60 for a game right now, so $70-100? Nuh-uh, pal lol.

Most AAA games/console exclusives I try to pick up when they're $20-30, so $70 just sounds crazy to me. I'll just keep using patience and deal hunting to enable what I deem reasonable pricing - or at least reasonable for what I can afford lol.

And I mean, Humble Monthly lets me get 10-12 games a month to keep for $12, which further skews my view on game value lol. I don&...

@glopez It's hard to say, and I think what I wrote is not really in line with whether the S is going to hold anything back. I mean, PS5/XSX would certainly hold a game built specifically for the RTX 3080 back in some ways, so I'm sure in some ways the S might pose a similar potential pitfall. And just because 1440p is a good resolution doesn't mean the S might not hold something back. I mean, if the XSX/PS5 are using their extra performance to get their visuals and still having to...

Even the RTX 3080 has to use DLSS to get upscaled 4k (from 1080p or 1440p) if you want full bells and whistles on.

The thing people seem to not be taking into account is both visual improvements vs resolution improvements. We could easily get 4k 60fps on every game if we kept them looking exactly like current gen games. A lot of Pro and even X games ran at 1440p, or dynamic resolution at 30fps. We're getting better visuals and double the framerate in these new machines....

I understand where you're coming from, and I'm not saying it's exactly rational, but I think it just comes down to personal preference/experience. It's a weird mix of things for me. I've tried to make as much sense of it as I can, because I do accept that it isn't entirely a rational thing, but hopefully you give it a read since I've edited and rewritten this more than I care to admit lol. I don't want it to be too long, but I generally can't help trying to...

"New releases for stalwart Wii U supporters are a few and far between. Every title that I’ve mentioned here is either available now or coming to Switch in the future, which is brilliant – if you’ve never played them of course. But to me, it feels like Nintendo is choosing the easy cash grab instead of trying to match its magnificent output on Wii U. "

That sums it up well for me. It always felt like they were removing value from my Wii U purchase, while delivering...

@agnosticgamer I did at least read, after the fact, that it was coming "later in 2020" to PC in another announcement, but they don't mention it on this article. But the fact that games I was initially excited about like Journey to the Savage Planet and Nier: Automata both ending up being console only and never having arrived on PC Game Pass kind of pointed me towards the belief that if it isn't day and date, one platform or the other isn't getting it. And PC is missing o...

At least if you're fortunate enough to still have a PS3 with PS2 BC. Sadly mine died off, so I'm stuck with my previous backup Slim model pulling "retro" duties. So I'll need a PS2, PS3 and, eventually, a PS5. I still have my PS3 hooked up (and my PS2 is stashed near my TV for ease of hook-up, whereas all my other retro consoles are currently boxed up), so it isn't the end of the world or anything. But it is what it is. I've mostly relegated consoles to being exc...

I'm not sure what you mean. On XSX, there are improved framerates and resolutions only on games that have unlocked framerates or dynamic resolutions. And even then, Digital Foundry speculates that the entire grunt of the APU might not be available given some of the constraints seen in some of the games they tested. If that's the case, then that might be only available to devs who go back and update their game - it's probably a compatibility issue, if it is anything.

If you aren't aware, then yes, it is only PS4 games. Sony finally came out and said directly that PS4 is all they were focusing on, which is truly a bummer.

Side ramble: while it won't turn me away from a purchase, I do like going back to old games (and I've got a goodly amount of 'em). Xbox allow you to do that elegantly through all of their gens on one machine (with caveats, of course). But for PS games, I will have to hook up at least 2 other consoles (a ...

I also saw that video, but Richard did make sure to note that those were specifically chosen games the he knew would work very well in that scenario. There are a lot of games that don't have different performance modes, unlocked framerates, or dynamic resolutions and they won't get any improvements automatically.
