@Kayoss: That complaint could be easily dismissed by telling those people to upgrade the expandable storage. You can always choose to spend more if you want. Most people won't even need more than 1TB for the rest of the console's life cycle.

Yeah, we'll see how it shakes out. It's not the first time they've made strange pricing decisions either. When the slimmer model launched last year, the price for the digital one had a 1:1 ratio between USD and Euro ($450€), while the physical bundle had a significant difference ($500/550€). So the difference between the digital and physical bundle is 50$ in the US and 100€ in Europe.

That's part of the reason why the current situation is so bad. Not only do...

I'm curious to see how it'll sell. Early sales probably won't be too bad, since there are always gonna be people who are willing to pay a much higher premium to get the best available SKU, but once those people have filtered out, I don't see them moving a lot of units at those prices, especially in Europe. I'm expecting sales to collapse soon after launch.

If that turns out to be true, Sony might just keep the production rate low and accept to sell a fra...

General prices are around 430€ for the digital and 520€ for the disc drive model. They sometimes can be had cheaper.

Keep in mind that the tax (VAT) is included in the Euro price (I've heard that's usually not the case for USD prices). With that said, I don't know what's happening with the price conversions lately. We used to have one-to-one prices for Euro and Dollar.

800€ for the console.
120€ for the disc drive.
30€ for the stand.

That's close to a doubling in price of the initial PS5 while offering a 45% increase in raw performance. We are getting worse value than we did 4 years ago. Even with PSSR and RT increases that's not worth it in my book.

Couldn't agree more. They're shooting themselves in the foot, by unnecessarily inflating the price with internal storage. 1TB would've been more than enough for most people. And even if it wasn't at some point, there is an option to upgrade storage later on.

800€ too. Their margins must be insane on those Pro consoles. No way I'm biting at those prices. I'll wait for PS6.

60 million possible customers is a stretch. It's a niche device. It was never gonna sell much, since the vast majority of PS5 owners have no use for it.

@crazyCoconuts: Yeah, I don't doubt it's gonna be better than FSR, otherwise there wouldn't have been a point in developing a proprietary solution to begin with.

Proper upsampling requires engine integration. Having a much higher RT boost than rasterization, means more work for the devs in creating a custom PS5 Pro build of the game. The more extra work you put on developers, the higher the chance that games won't utilize the full potential of the hardware. Utilizing an increase in raw performance is always gonna be easier, especially in the age of dynamic resolution scaling.

With that said, I wasn't that hyped for the Pro ...

That would take more than 5 minutes. I want to see them make a proper case for it by showing me how much I'd benefit from upgrading. If PSSR is the main selling point I want to know how widespread the support for it will be.

I'd still consider Rebirth the favorite going into the Game awards. A lot of outlets probably gave both games the same score and when it's time to vote, I could see many of them leaning towards giving it to bigger/more ambitious game. Either way both of them are bound to win some awards. At least this makes it more interesting to watch.

4th best rated 3D platformer of all time on metacritic. Only beaten by the 2 Mario Galaxy games and Super Mario Odyssey.

It's kinda crazy that Team Asobi is already competing on that level with an IP as young as Astro Bot. If this succeeds they'll probably get even more resources and freedom for their next game. Seems like the Astro Bot IP will have a bright future.

Yeah it's still up there in the Playstation Store and Steam charts. It's just a clickbait headline.

@MrBaskerville: I never claimed to have played it. I'm refusing to buy unfinished games out of principle. It didn't have a complete gold master, meaning they've shipped a ton of discs that don't even contain a working build of the game.

Would've been even better if they finished it before releasing it.

We'll see. It think it has a decent chance to be successful. If it was 10 bucks cheaper I'd be way more confident, but I could see people waiting for a discount, because it is a relatively short platformer and 70€ is just a slight discount from the 80€ full price that huge games like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth had at launch.

They need major structural changes, not just a rethinking of strategy.
Everyone could see this game flopping from a mile away. Everyone except for Sony apparently.

They've seen this game up close for 3+ years and despite that, agreed to a publishing deal in 2021 and later acquired the studio in 2023. The fact that no red flags were raised during 3 years of development (including focus tests and mock reviews) suggests that something is deeply broken about their ...

They should cut their losses and run from this IP as far as their legs can carry them. The amount of work that would be required to convert this game into something that has a decent chance at succeeding in the f2p market isn't worth it. They'll just make this disaster go into a second round for no reason whatsoever.

People will have a rude awakening when they realize that Hermen Hulst is as responsible (if not more) for everything going wrong at Playstation and that things aren't going to get much better as long as he's still there.
