I'm so backlogged I shouldn't even buy anything, but Ni no Kuni 2 looks like a good deal. Loved the first game.
Can anyone recommend Judgment? Or should I play Yakuza first? Pretty sure I already have Zero and Kiwami.
Just to be clear I'm not shooting the messenger here. I have 0 problems with the way this article posted now. As a rumor rather than news, with the clarifying response linked instead of just the initial leaked dm discussion on neogaf. My comment is entirely focused on the misinformation you've posted in your comment and has very little to do with the article. Since you've replied I'm gonna give you the benefit of the doubt and try to clarify some issues:

You've been actively commenting on other articles and editing this submission the whole day and yet you haven't responded to any of the criticisms aimed towards your initial comment by me or others. You've just come back to post an 'update' with even more misinformation about mesh shading and an assumption about VRS. Are you going to respond at all, or are you just interested in stirring the pot and disappearing?
It's only fitting that Sucker Punch, who started the trend of adding a photo mode with Infamous: Second Son, would end this gen with another great implementation in one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.
I hope so. Their temporal injection method worked really well on PS4 Pro. I don't mind scaling back some of the most expensive graphical effects, but I'd prioritize taking a bigger hit in native rendering resolution. Having a 60fps mode is appreciated either way.
First of all, both consoles use a custom GPU based on the RDNA 2 architecture. That means that their featureset will differ in certain areas from an off the shelf GPU. That has been explained in the PS5 deep dive and is not news worthy.
When it comes to machine learning, we already know that the Xbox Series X does not have tensor cores either. Instead it runs ML on it's shaders. The PS5 can do the exact same thing. Even if you run with the 'not true RDNA 2' narr...
Just as an addendum to the explanation mynd posted, you can check this page out to see some examples for youself: http://www.radgametools.com...
You can adjust the quality/compression tradeoff. If you pay attention to the compression ratio (expressed as a percentage of the original file size) you'll notice that some textures are more compressible than others.
@CrazyCoconuts: SFS is the DX12 ultimate implementation. It takes the feedback maps from the hardware layer and provides the information back into the software layer, which allows for a more accurate prediction on what texture data will be needed next.
@rainslacker: Even the current gen console GPUs already had built-in features that helped with some aspects of virtual texturing. As far as I understand it, this is simply gonna make it much more precise and reliable. It woul...
SFS is specifically about recording texture sampling information and location, then only streaming the required mipmaps or even only parts of them. This allows for for a much more efficient use of the available I/O bandwidth and memory. Sampler Feedback is an RDNA 2 feature and although SFS is a DX12 Ultimate implementation of that feature, there is in theory no reason why Sony couldn't have their own implementation in GNM.
And no, this does not increase the I/O through...
What makes you think that Series X will have a digital version, but Series S won't? I'd think that lowering the pricepoint of the entry level SKU would take priority.
For sure. This will make scalability across the different console tiers much easier once their cross gen period is over. They'll simply have to lower the resolution and potentially adjust some of the graphical settings, which will already be implemented for the PC versions of the games anyway.
They probably have enough units to last until the next gen consoles are released.
Not sure where you get parity from their message? They are constantly talking about scalability and best verions of games on Series X. They even have that huge 'optimised for Series X' logo they are slapping on the box to let you know.
They are obviously going over the game and scaling everything up to make use of the Series X horsepower. I wouldn't be surprised if they patched those enhancements into the PC version down the line.
@timotim: I've seen the Switch version in action. As impressive as it is that it works at all, it's quite honestly a disgrace to the game. And let's be honest, it just barely works. People that only played this version will come away with such an inferior experience, that I'd honestly prefer that it didn't exist at all especially considering how much additional work had to be invested in creating the port. The aliasing is really bad, the textures look like mudd and constan...
Personally I disagree with their focus on forwards compatibility. People can claim scalability all they want and from a GPU perspective I'm even willing to buy the argument to a degree, but when we're talking about the potential Zen 2 cores and the I/O capabilities of the Series X bring with them, I can't help but feel disappointed that their first party devs have to design their games with Jaguar cores and HDDs in mind.

Can't wait to see what MS is bringing to the next gen table. Mostly looking forward to Medium, but I'm generally hyped to see more next-gen footage. 60fps stream is nice, althought the 1080p resolution + stream compression won't do the games justice. Hopefully MS can provide high bitrate downloads for the gameplay demos afterwards. It's a real shame that we usually don't get a chance to see an accurate representation of how those games will actually look.
I don't fully understand how Japan Studio is structured, but they are always working on a bunch of projects at the same time. Astrobot is handled by the ASOBI team division. There is also the division that helps with the development of Demon's Souls. Project Siren haven't made anything since Gravity Rush 2 in 2017, so I'd assume they are working on an unannounced PS5 title. There were also rumors going around about a space game that supposedly has been in development by Japan ...
Typical clickbait headline and unsurprisingly people fall for it. He was talking about the difference between the newly supported 21:9 aspect ratio compared to the conventional 16:9 aspect ratio.
16:9 is a TV format.
2.39:1 is a cinema format which is very close to 21:9.
Do you mean the teardown? I've only heard rumours about the price and release date being announced. Would be cool to get the teardown on top of that info.
Yeah, I've heard similar things from other people as well. I was definitely going to try it at some point, simply because I loved the first one so much. I know Level-5 are very capable, but not very consistent so I'm not expecting it to be as good as the first. I am in the mood for a game like this though. When I'm done with Ghost of Tsushima I'll give this one a go.
