Since the beginning of this generation, there was at least one worthy game released in August and it some cases it was even made a serious GOTY contender - it was always the month that signaled the end of the dry summer period at retail (usually starting at around E3 every year).
And bet...
Precisely. According to him Windows 8 will only be bad to developers *IF* it will be locked (like the console business). But why would Microsoft do this when openness is what gave them the huge market share they have today?
Valve and Blizzard have other concerns: If Microsoft seriously handles the game-marketplace business (and not like they handled it until now with GFW and similar crap), it might be a serious hit for other store fronts - and both Blizzard and Valve compete ...
I really loved it, it was a nice change of pace. After all, how many FPS games deliver actual space combat missions?
I wouldn't mind seeing something extended in a future game, perhaps not halo 4 but some other game which will include a free roaming section (similar to the hub in ODST, or the aerial mission) only with space combat and landing on various planets with linear missions.
It was pretty much playable by the end of last year. It didn't crash on me for over 100 hours of playtime after the second patch - and I can hardly even recall other games which were worth 100 hours of playtime. No wonder it topped the GOTY charts.
Yeah, the knight of the nine sidequest in Oblivion was more satisfying
I think Orc Must Die was well worth 15$ - it gave much more than 2-3 hours of playtime. It was also priced similarly on Steam so you can't claim it's MS being greedy about it (unlike Deadlight I guess).
The same aplies to Metro 2033: It's not an MS published title so they're not the ones setting the DLC price or locking it on disc (I don't think any MS games have disc locked DLC on them). You can blame THQ for that.
On topic: A shame about...
It was actually completely unexpected: the expectation was for her to either be dead or for a traditional rescue-thanku romance we see in most games (including ones in this same list). The shock value of this scene seems like it came out of nowhere.
Where in the history of video games have we seen a similar seen before?
The first hours are simple go fetch quests to help you get familiarized with the interface, but the actual game is nothing like wow. It has a deep story missions with a lot of interactivity, and the tactical combat is second to none on the high difficulty levels.
Full customization = load of penises. This is just how human creativity works: every time people are given full creative control they will try to create a penis.

Perhaps this is why now he came to realization he shouldn't tell stories in games. Other writers are however a bit more capable (or perhaps he's just a genius doing this on purpose and as a tribute to bad films like Escape from New York - just like Tarantino is doing with his works).
Compared to 7 year old console hardware it actually is...
There are no details in the link (line-up etc.) - just a confirmation that they'll be there and present the new slim console.
Games simply can't compete with how deep stories in books are, but they have other advantages. The story in Halo games for example never comes close to the (good) books in the series, but the level of interactiveness compensates for that: a book can't deliver the level of intensity or running into the Flood for the first time - it's emergent narrative
MGS stories though are more like convoluted anime shows with some interesting philosophy but really bad dialog - a...
They already branched out from making Half Life games and look where it got us... no story conclusion since 2007. :(

Now mud-wrestle!
This list has so much fail. I got just to number 8 and couldn't bear to get past it, especially since each item requires you to click and open a new page.
Probably both just drew inspiration from Flight of the Phoenix.
People think they come up with something original, but the sub-conscious mind is very powerful. This is an amazing example of how it works:

You forgot Apple: MS Pretty much saved them from bankrupcy.
Actually that's not really true if you count the number of new IPs released this gen by each publisher. You can however argue about how successful they were - and I think that's where Sony's strength lies.
