I don't think religion should get a free pass in fiction no matter what. If the topics of racism and violence can be looked at in movies and video games, why not religion? Because it's too personal? So what? People just need to learn that there is a difference between reality and fiction.
Art in all forms is about expression. Whether that expression is to convey emotion, an idea, entertainment, or a thought, it is always meant to have freedom of expression. If we play...
I know that there are many things people are expecting and hoping for with the next generation consoles, but we have to look realistically at some of the things they list as somewhat odd.
Xbox Live: If you like paying extra for a service that you are already paying for through another provider, more power to you. I'd rather play on PC servers that don't charge extra, including Steam.
Entertainment Hub: "...the Next-gen Xbox is not just a console ...
All I have to say is thank goodness there is a mute option. Some moron on the other end of the country can be mouthing off or blasting Soulja Boy tracks and I don't have to hear a thing. It's a wonderful type of bliss.
I just find it ironic that a company who gets so much bad press and negative standing with consumers manages to net exclusive rights to Star Wars video games. That's a major leap even for EA. And yeah, I know about The Old Republic, but it's more so that BioWare worked on it...just with EA's funds to publish. We can only hope that EA won't push too many questionable business practices onto Star Wars.
You would figure that with Warfighter's dismal reception, EA would analyze where it went wrong. Instead, they reinforce that they made a good game that no one understood.
"According to chief operating officer Peter Moore, “the game was solid but the focus on combat authenticity did not resonate with consumers.”"
No. What didn't resonate with consumers was how obviously rushed Warfighter was. It's evidenced in it's mundane gameplay, d...
I like the concepts that the game has. It's without a doubt a day one launch title buy for me.
So, EA wins Worst Company in America for the second year in a row and Disney is entrusting them with making Star Wars video games. This is also including that it's universal knowledge of EA's business practices. Yep, seems completely illogical to me.
So, killing bad people (who have done bad things including trying to kill you and your loved ones), makes you the murderer?
"Drake’s killed so many people that it’s surprising he doesn’t top the Most Wanted list of the FBI and Interpol. Fine, most of those people were shooting at him but they were only doing what they were hired to do, which was to guard areas."
Among other things like genocide, smuggling illicit objects and people, kidnapping, blac...
Lists like these are overrated. I mean, hottest article on N4G? Wonderful... Looking at the history of these types of lists, we have gone almost two months without another one like this popping up.
Haven't seen a "top 10 overrated" or "top 10 franchises that must die" list in awhile until now. Well, guess some writers can't help themselves. They want the hits and what better way than to crap on the games that dare get above average to perfect revie...
Thanks, majiebeast. I appreciate the feedback. I'm actually thinking of continuing this retrospective of the months as they go on. I figure doing it every three months would be cool.
It would be like revisiting the hot topics of the industry. I already have a lot to work with through April. May has been a little slow, but I did find a few good topics. And yeah, isn't it convenient that people neglect the fact that it was a woman who made the trophy name?
Nope. I'm more excited for games that will actually offer something different as opposed to the same recycled formula year by year. These are the games I'm excited for this year: The Last of Us, Remember Me, Tales of Xillia, Beyond: Two Souls, Pokemon Y, and Watch Dogs.
I manage to play my game collection a few games at a time. When a new game is released and I buy it, I dedicate time to that. When I look back at other games, I take time to dedicate to them. Just because I don't get to play every month, doesn't mean I'm not interested in them anymore. I bought them for a reason and I intend to keep them. =)
Well, it depends on what kind of first person shooters we're talking about. We have to make a divide in first person shooting between first person shooters and modern military shooters. The difference between FPS and MMS comes down to what the content is.
Normally, certain first person shooters contain a difference compared to other shooters. Whether the uniqueness comes in the form of story or gameplay, the first person shooter that functions well with those elements and...
I doubt any of us are in the minority, but I do play fighting games for the story. Mortal Kombat and Injustice have fantastic stories. Soul Calibur V, not so much. It is true, though, that fighting games can have a great story. If developers took the time to do it, then they can really give more replay value outside of multiplayer.
I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. Warfighter could have had so much going for it, yet only disappointed and performed terribly. Those enemies appearing out of thin air were a real kicker when I finished a section and for five minutes nothing happened until the game remembered that I was still in a combat zone. Worse still were the reactions of those who paid sixty dollars for this. See picture for actual reactions. =)
A vocal minority? Oh yeah, those hundreds upon hundreds of consumers who bought Mass Effect 3 and got disappointed went and started campaigns, made thorough videos detailing what was wrong with the ending, and had numerous people call out their controversial business tactics. That's his definition of minority?
You would think that after a whole year after the game's release that Walters would figure out that the ending he and Casey Hudson initially wrote was utterly l...
Man, reading this again and seeing the ending over again just brings back so many bad memories of how terribly handled those last moments were. Even then, we now know that it was Casey Hudson and lead writer Mac Walters who did a "closed doors" session with the ending and did so without the input of the of rest of the team. So the "Star/God child" is something we have to thank them for.
Got the collector's edition and for what? A dumbed down roster com...
Pretty much, yeah. Certain publishers really need to see the issues surrounding their business practices to see what people like and don't like. I think having games like Chrono Trigger available on the networks would really be a benefit for many gamers. So, it is with my last bubble that I ask, do you have any ideas on what can be considered for improving company business models?
Interesting synopsis there. I used to buy used games before along with new games. I remember one day I went to Game Stop for my Christmas shopping in 2010. I ended up buying Monster Hunter Tri and No More Heroes used for the Wii, while I picked up Uncharted: Drake's fortune new. It was after that trip that I saw some statistics about video game sales which led to my decision of buying games new from now on.
It would have to be under certain conditions, though. First, I wi...
I agree. For the better, video games are evolving and making strides in different forms. Powerful stories, great soundtracks, top notch voice acting, and well written scripts are being seen more often. That's why I'm excited for the next generation.
Developers really seem to be giving this aura of creativity that needs to be unleashed. The video game industry needs great stories and intriguing gameplay mechanics. That is how any game can be separated from the pack and...
