“But that’s after we establish the platform as a video game platform. We want to make sure that we are there for the gamers with our PS4 as well. They will go beyond this, but they’ll definitely start with gamer first."

Kazuo said it right on the money. Like it or not, what make consoles sell are video games. The core consumer who buy consoles are gamers. No matter what spin Microsoft tries to put on the Xbox One, they are essentially alienating gamers and competing with...

At this point, Microsoft are doing damage control given all of the details erupting after the Xbox One reveal. Unfortunately, the most I have seen in terms of them explaining how the new system will work with other markets internationally is how the new camera in the Kinect can help it read anyone three feet away. That's good for Japanese households, but I ask, "What about everything and everyone else?"

One of my first thoughts after the conference was on how Mi...

That scenario would be so full of win. Just reading that made me laugh.

Watching the conference, this was one of my thoughts, "How could Microsoft possibly make the Xbox One appealing to consumers in Europe and Asia?" Xbox One screams that it's all American. It's not a product that anyone from any country can buy and enjoy. It's something that will most likely be popular in North America, though even that is questionable given the reaction from many.

Microsoft knew going into console gaming that they have to win over differe...

This...is going to be good. Let's dissect this "opinion piece" eh?

"...Xbox One is ready for the future, while the PS4 sadly clings on to the bygone---and less profitable---era of hardcore gaming."

Aha. So, gaming isn't profitable huh? How exactly is putting the focus of a gaming console not on gaming a good thing? That should be your core consumer right there.

"It really comes down to the consoles' names,...

Nope. Still going with PS4. The press conference didn't hold much for me in terms of selling me on this system. The Wii U is fun, but needs games (a number of which I'm waiting on). The PS4 has more steam going for it than the Xbox One does. Also, "Xbox One"? I don't know why, but I laughed when I heard what it's being called. Is it supposed to be a pun? Like Xbox Won? At this point, I doubt it.

Playstation fanboys can't even bring up graphics superiority unless they are bragging about the PS4. In which case, no one can really claim since it's not even out yet. And what I'm talking about is that graphics don't make good games. There's more that goes into what makes a good video game. That's what many gamers tend to forget. Hence, they and many PC elitists reinforce that graphics make or break a game.

It's pointless to say that graphics equ...

"What’s that? Crysis 3? Ah, I think I may see the problem here. I fear people may be confusing graphical improvements with next-gen gaming."

That right there is the problem with PC elitists. What they fail to understand is that graphics and hardware don't equal superiority. Like the author states, graphics can have high quality, but at the end of the day nothing new is being done for the game in its entirety. His analogy of a car having new rims and a paint job ...

You have a smart kid there. Props to you, MilkMan.

I think this new generation will be a good one. Developers are gaining more confidence and certain publishers are seeing that "more of the same" isn't always the best thing. Many gamers like different game and story genres.

I like the new elements added with the Wii U, like the tablet controller and being able to have five players in one game now. They just need more games. I hope that we see th...

I will be sure to check that out for sure. I know these are must haves and crucial to help Wii U sales.

I highly recommend trying the others when you get the chance. I also agree with your agree on Binary Domain and Vanquish. I think it might have to do with them not getting as much exposure through ads, but the other side of the coin would be gamers' interests.

Ugh, I hate it when video game journalists make their nitpicks so damning to a game. Multiplayer isn't needed all the time. Vanquish was a great release in 2010. I would personally give it an 8 or 9.

Totally agree. I really liked Sonic Colors. Plus, it's no mystery that the Wii U could use the exclusives. I think what would be cool is if Nintendo and Sega finally did a full fledged adventure game with Mario and Sonic. That would be awesome.

I have some. In no particular order and sticking with this current generation, these are five games I think are underappreciated. And I'm in agreement with Heisenburger, thank you for not going for "underrated", but from me thank you for not going for the obvious "overrated" or "must die" lists. We see too many of those with people complaining instead of praising good games.

Binary Domain: A third person shooter that had a lot of charm pertai...

As awesome as it would be, this is Activision we are talking about. They will find some way to screw it up. That or make it so we (the consumer) have to do something ridiculous to get them.

"It has a major “cinematic” problem, and the gameplay suffers."

It is here that I realized I'm going to disagree majorly with the author on not only this, but many things he states. There are many moments in Kingdom Hearts where you can level grind or experiment with fighting. The story doesn't get in the way.

"Where the problems arise are the times when Sora opens his mouth. It’s here that most of what the game accomplished, in terms o...

Who was gullible enough to purchase one skin for one character for over one hundred dollars? That's my question!

It would be impossible for me to say. The best I can do is say that of the Final Fantasy games I own (VII, VIII, IX, X, and XII), I like and appreciate them all equally. Each and every one of them was a fantastic experience that offered new stories and characters to admire.

Okay, hang on a second. First off, what else has this guy done besides Braid? I just read three articles on beefjack (all citing Braid is the one game he made) and he's going around criticizing other portions of the video game industry. Guy, I would rather have more credibility under my belt in any industry before I start spouting my mouth off.

Secondly, just because you're so proud of being an indie developer does not mean you have to be pretentious about it. Of the ...

With all of the speculation with Microsoft, I admit that they had better answer some questions regarding the rumors. As for this list, I agree with number three and two in particular.

3. Spend Too Long on Kinect: "Reports suggest that not only will a new version of the Kinect be bundled with every console, but also that the peripheral must be hooked up to run the new gaming machine."

This took me by surprise. I haven't heard of that rumor out of...
