Am I the only one who read this entire article thinking it was satire? I kept waiting for the punchline, some final words pointing out how absurd this whole "my kind of fun is the only acceptable kind" mentality is.
Turns out, this article itself is part of the problem I thought it was going to address.
So much for "mature and tasteful", eh Bioware?
I love how people instantly spout off with "OMG EVIL AMERIKKKA HIDING DA BOOBIES NO FREEDOM THANKS OBAMA" type comments, as if this happens with all games.
The fact that there are other games out there which get away with more tells you all you need to know. You want a big, scary, faceless entity to blame for a minor change to your game cover? Look to the people putting out the game, not the country of release.
Always fun to see a reviewer admit that the mindset they had going in may have colored their review.
who spent his summers visitng uncle Siren.
Anyone who values reviews as anything more than some person's opinion is doing it wrong in the first place. You have a functioning human brain and the internet, which should be all you need to seek out information and footage of a game in order to make an informed decision.
Not all games are made with mass appeal in mind, so the usefulness of a tool like metacritic is going to vary depending on the product.
Nothing says clickbait like a poorly formatted article on a non gaming website, telling us about how a game is ashamed of itself while making absurd claims of it's intentions.
Don't worry, Skipper, there's probably a bright future for you at FOX News.
Now, if you look to the left, you'll see an author with no understanding of what the word illusory means.
Less interesting games? What alternate universe are we discussing here?
The recent PS+ games may not have as much mass appeal as some of the older months, but they sure as hell did not get less interesting. I love big AAA games, but if you want the kind of weird ass creativity that was all over the place in the PS1 days, indie is the way to go, and PS+ has offered up some prime examples of this. Unless by interesting we mean $60 retail, then sure, less interesting.
Singularity was so good. I have tried to convince a few of my friends to play it, only to be met with the typical "Bah, it just looks like another Bioshock" responses. Excellent game.
The only game on this list I haven't played yet (and I enjoyed the rest) is Lost Odyssey, so I'm definitely looking forward to finally having the time to play that one now.
I'm not going to say there isn't a problem to confront or anything like that. As someone who has been playing video games my whole life, I feel safe in saying that there are plenty of hate-centric problems in the gaming world, just as in the rest of the world, and these problems include and go beyond sexism.
However, I do think that people tend to put too much stock in the vocal minority with these issues, and that is on both sides. Are all "gamers" a bunch ...
I thoroughly enjoyed both games, but this comparison is odd and really seems forced. GTA and Infamous may both be open world games, but they are trying to do very different things. The point of Infamous is to tell a super-hero story, and let you enjoy the powers of the character. GTA, on the other hand, first and foremost builds a living world to set it's characters and crime story in. While Infamous could certainly use a livelier, more detail-intensive city, it certainly isn't the pr...
I love Tearaway, it's an amazing game, and easily among my top 3 Vita games. However, in today's market, Tearaway just isn't a system seller. The game will definitely hold sway though, and its awesome that a whole new player base will be able experience what it has to offer.
Hopefully it's better than the last few arcs of the comic.
Move actually had some decent games, but it's not hard to see why it never caught on.
If you happen to see one on clearance somewhere, it's worth picking up for cheap.
$59.99? For a brand new game?
Is this one of your Earth jokes?
If a game console focusing on gaming is considered boring these days, then sign me up for a double dose of boring.
Anyone who thinks you can ride to 10 million on hype alone has no idea how product sales work.
Would have been cool if it were that crazy orange the game uses so prominently, but still a nice bundle.
The thing is, CoD is not preventing more creative games from being made or from garnering attention. If anything, it is preventing the next somewhat shallow game of wide mainstream appeal from taking its place. This is just a part of the gaming ecosystem that will always exist, and some game like it will always be there to fill the role.
Games of this vein existed long before Call of Duty was a thing, and will continue to exist long after.
