And I can say with conviction that this game rocks.
I was really afraid it would be an Alone in the Dark rehash. This blows that game out of the water. IMHO it's way creepier than Resident Evil 5 (but not in the same league as Dead Space).
It looks great, it plays great, it's unique enough to stand out.
My biggest gripe is some of the cut scenes look...off. Plastic-like faces that don't seem shaped quite right or move natural...
Yeah, I remember paying something like $60 or $70 for Shining In The Darkness back in the day. Glad I wasn't the only one.
I don't mind higher prices where they're justified (read: when developer costs demand an increase). Inflation happens in every industry.
Just don't leave it up to the oil companies (especially BP, given their current predicament) or Activision/Nodick. That's just begging for wallet rape.

Personally, I'm too busy enjoying the game to worry about pixel counting or comparing how it looks on another platform.
I think it looks & plays great - and yeah, I have the PS3 version.
Enjoy the game on your platform of choice and leave it at that.
DS is one of my favorite games of this generation, easily.
I really hope more people buy this at retail compared to the original game. It was criminal how little it sold for how great a game it is. The PC version especially (nearly cost PC gamers the sequel!)

It's like they took the old saying, "Do one thing and do it better than anybody" and somehow (mis)interpreted it as, "Do a bunch of things that are out of your comfort zone and do a piss poor job at pretty much all of them".
And to think, RE5 was more passable than Lost Planet 2, IMHO. So this joker has actually taken a step back from one game to the next.

Lack of dedicated servers has been my only real gripe about the Gears series.
They damn well better not screw this up again.
That's not very far from the score they gave Lair - another beautiful game that was widely regarded as disappointing. And "beautiful disaster" might also apply to LP2 - and that sucks.
I'll still give LP2 a rent, but I'm going to be pretty disappointed if they really botched it up this bad.
I actually enjoyed Lair, and as with that game I'm hoping LP2 is better than this score would indicate.

UC1 was my first plat - just an awesome game regardless of what difficulty you play.
And I agree. I enjoy the trophy system and the replay value that it adds, but it isn't a driving force for me. The day I play Hannah Montana is the day I should have my gamer license revoked.
True. W@W was a joke on veteran - just obscene grenade spam. Towards the end of the game it got even more ridiculous, like the section with the Flak 88's and the very last building. Skill helps, but it takes a considerable amount of luck as well.
I think that was the toughest platinum I have. Not sure I would try for that one again (or any other tortuous trophy/achievement). Sucking the fun out of the game defeats the purpose of gaming in the first place.

Being compared to Gears is probably way too optimistic for this game.
Just speculation, but I think the ESRB designation will either be "MC" (Mega Crap) or "N" (Nobody should ever be forced to play this damn game).

I might end up picking up either this or Blur - not sure which yet. I'm eager to try out Split/second to compare.
The Blur demo is a quick mindless blast, although I'm not sure it's worth the asking price.

Maybe the author assumed it's still coming for PC, or didn't double check to see that it was canceled.
