That is what I am thinking since the start of the generation. That is why I didn't went for the whole power narrative and bought the console which games I liked better: Xbox One.
This time around the power advantage changes but I still stay on the platform I like better. If Scorpio would have been weaker it wouldn't have changed that I still would prefer Xbox.

@Ritsul:
As a scientist I take Phils comment as what it is, him thinking loud and trying to innovate. I don't get to emotional and blow this out of proportion as many here do. I am not blindly following him but I really appreciate his insights and engagement in the community! He shares his thoughts on how to innovate and I think that is better than being confronted with final results.
In the end I try to say I am a fan of progress and innovation and without people in the...

Why without heart? I love sp games. The Witcher and mass effect games are my favorite games. But I also like to see new games. And story driven episodic games in a Netflix like service sound interesting to me since I love story driven games. This offers a great opportunity for devs to dip their toes into new ideas without the risk of AAA development.

lol, this comment section is pure gold. Funny how all you guys are thrown off by a simple comment on how to keep on improving the gaming business.
I am a scientist and in science that kind of questioning of current understandings of things is done all the time. That is what drives innovation! So I don't get the outcry!

Phil Spencer simply stated something based on metrics and interprets the data. He also comes along with an addition to gaming that might benefit...

@finbars75
Scorpio is an improved custom CPU based on Jaguar, Custom GPU based on Polaris and has 12 GB GDDR5. All those components bring 4k capable hardware at reasonable pricing.
Otherwise it would be a Zen based new APU with Vega compute units.

Read between the lines what Phil Spencer said:

"So we designed a console for 2016, and a console for 2017. We were kind of working on both plans simultaneously. And at some point, we got ...

Thank you, sadly that is often true with N4G -> know-it-all fanboys that talk out of their a**e* without anything solid to back it up...

As for The Division: Awesome game with many flaws at the beginning but great dev support to iron out teething problems of this great idea of a game. I also expect a lot from Division 2. But till it gets released I will spend many more hours in the first game :)

Since update 1.5, and with all the new DLCs, better drop rates and the world tiers, there is a high build diversity and increased content for endgame. Gunplay and skill builds are competitve. It is a lot of fun again.
Of course there are still some meta builds for certain situations, but balancing got a lot better. I can recommend to jump back in and try it out.
Skill builds are fun to play and you also can play many missions solo on challenging difficulty now, if you are a...

I loved Titanfall 1, best FPS movement mechanics and intuitive controls IMO! Moving and especially wall-running felt so natural.
I played TF2 for about 4 hours and lost interest since it feels so different, not as smooth and intuitive anymore. It is more like CoD and I rapidly lost interest. They may have improved on content and SP campaign, but the gameplay mechanics feel like a step back.
It's a pitty, since the first game was such a blast...
I hope there wil...

I don't know man, according to your link he also says:

"“As an industry, I want to make sure both narrative-driven single-player games and service-based games have the opportunity to succeed. I think that’s critical for us,” Spencer said."

He is thinking about a new genre of games. Pay a Netflix like monthly subscription and get episodical games like the last Hitman. Games like that perfectly fit this service and I would try that out. I thin...

Neat interview, Phil Spencer is a great guy who speaks honest from the heart and the perspective of a gamer and dev. Of course he also slips in the occasional Xbox advertising, but ultimately it is his job. Xbox gaming is in good hands with him:)

@Haurus:

nowhere did MS say anything about 100% efficiency!
They always relate to optimizational terms like "maximize performance and minimize power consumption" or "deliver maximum cooling with minimum noise".
The whole Hovis method thing is about optimizing every SoC to its needs since the production of chips is not 100% identical as minor deviations occur. The Hovis method tweaks the voltage to balance those deviations between the ch...

I'd say it depends on the game. A racing simulation game like Forza Motorsport or GT needs better physics and graphics to enhance the immersion and thus needs more power on the road to achive photorealism.
Same goes for other sport games like NBA2K, FIFA, NHL, etc.

Also an RPG like Witcher 3 managed an awesome gameplay experience with examplary quest design and pretty graphics. But for the next game I expect quest/gameplay refinement and an even more immersive ...

I have to add, that I mean Europe out of UK. Xbox UK sales dropped significantly indeed but out of UK I expect the market share difference 360 vs PS3 in the same ballpark.

3203d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Playstation always had and always will have a way higher brand recognition in Europe than Xbox. Something you will easily recognize if you watch UEFA Champions League Football.
Nothing new with these numbers. I wouldn't be surprised if you get the same result with Xbox360 vs PS3.
Nintendo has been stronger in the past though.

I stumbled across the books after the first game. In Poland they have been very popular long before the games, in Germany I think they became somewhat famous after the 1st game as the translation of the novels started afterwards. Only the shortstories and the 1st book of the novels were available before. I really enjoyed the books and they are my favourite fantasy novel!
So I would say, outside of Poland the games were great promotion for the books and I guess it raised awareness for...

Yes! If you are a fantasy fan read them. I started reading the books after the first game. Awesome stuff, my alltime-favourite fantasy novels!
