Oh boy. I smell another winner here, Squarenixidos.
/sarcasm
And I'm only saying this because Squarenixidos has taken every single possible opportunity this generation to prove themselves as NOT a good publisher/developer.
If FF13 ends up being good, so be it. I'm sure I'll like it, but for now....S-E-E has a lot to prove.
There's no question that the PS3 has the better hardware.
But in the end, it's the developer's job to make that hardware shine. That goes for both the 360 and the PS3. Unfortunately, the 360 is falling behind when it comes to developing games. Unreal Engine 3 is looking a bit bland and there aren't really any optimized engines on the 360 that looks quite as nice, whereas you have half a dozen PS3-optimized engines all looking fantastic.
Go ahead. Name a game engine o...
I like the feel of the 360 controller's shape more (it actually fills my hands and feels somewhat like a Dreamcast controller), but I enjoy the buttons and button layout on the PS3 controller much more. 360 buttons feel cheap and toy-like, and they don't grip very well, especially the face buttons(X,Y,A,B). The dome shape of the face buttons also annoy me, and it's no question which controller has the better D-Pad.
But that's just my opinion. I really don't care about controllers...
It's difficult to say "no" to console wars when top execs and PR reps of the console makers do plenty of console warring of their own. Just surf the web for anything said by Aaron Greenburg to see my point proven.
It's not like the good ol' days when the trash talking between companies was kept to a minimum and instead the games did the talking.
There is so much wrong with this line of thinking. It singles video games (and video game players) out amongst many forms of media. Shall we induce electric shock while people watch violent movies or TV shows? Shall we zap people with high-pitch squeals every 30 seconds while they're listening to "rebellious, anti-establishment" music?
It's pathetic. It's as if gamers (according to Mathis) are some kind of children who cannot POSSIBLY discern right from wrong, so what n...
Absolutely hilarious how people will defend the Zune's abysmal sales by saying "Bu bu bu but it was only released in the US! Give it a chance! If it was released worldwide, I'm sure it would..."
And that's fine. Although somewhat desperate, that argument is grounded in sound logic. However, I wonder why that logic disappears when these same people will boast about the 360's sales lead in the USA or other regions without mentioning the 1-year head start.
Multiplayer was "killing" single player games long before co-op. Games started shipping with 4-hour and 5-hour campaigns BUT with multiplayer (so apparently it was acceptable) long before co-op started to grab a hold of the industry.
First, we were told "I bought my console for the GAMEZ, not for the movies!" when the PS3 came out.
Then it was "Hah! HD-DVD will be the clear victor over Blu Ray!!!"
Then it was "HD-DVD lost? Who cares? I bought my console for the GAMEZ, not for the movies!"
Then it was "Netflix? Sweet! Look at all these movies I can watch on my system! Skip Blu Ray! Hah hah!"
Now it'll be "Netflix? Who cares? At...

Wow. Quite a compelling article. It does raise some excellent points. Street Fighter 4 was pretty lame. Resident Evil 5 was pretty lame. Devil May Cry 4. Lost Planet. Has Capcom made any TRULY remarkable games lately that live up to the Capcom name? The only one that comes to mind is Dead Rising.
Let's see some of this magical, mysterious treasure vault of upcoming 360 exclusives that Microsoft keeps telling us to wait for.
Expect this to happen for many more months.
When a $400 system is keeping pace -- and in fact, somewhat outpacing -- a console that's half the price, that is something to keep your eye on, especially when an inevitable price drop comes.
I would have put Halo: Combat Evolved on that list. I'm not a fan of the CURRENT state of the franchise, but back in the day that was THE FPS to be playing on consoles...and the fact that it was a launch title gave you quite a compelling reason to go out and buy an Xbox right away.
Ooooh. A Gamestop employee telling us to stop hating Gamestop?
Well, Hi. My name is GWAVE. I'm a former Gamestop Assistant Store Manager. I was a manager from late 2007 to late 2008. I'm here to tell you that you SHOULD hate Gamestop. Their business practices are terrible. Their "deals" are terrible.
For all your used video game needs (because that's the last viable excuse they have to exist), please use eBay, Amazon, and other such wonderful online retaile...
Consoles will always have the graphical and physics-processing power, but all I can say is that I have barely touched the PS3 or 360 in the past few months (with the exception of Killzone 2)...it's been all about the DSi and PSP.
Many of the games seem to be designed better. They seem to be designed for quick bursts of play instead of hours and hours of playing (though you CAN certainly play for hours and hours if you want). Plus, the best RPGs this generation are on the handheld...
I'm a PSP owner, and I'm waiting for Alan Wake.....OMFG!!!!
I highly doubt this, just like I doubt Sony would make the PSP2 use purely digital means for acquiring games. Why cut out the retailer? It limits your potential userbase.
On a side note, I'm currently playing the EUR version of Patapon 2 and....oh goodness, it's awesome. Patapon is one of the best "unknown" games available for any platform right now.
Gears of War belongs to Microsoft? Hmmmm, what was EPIC's involvement then?
I enjoy Achievements/Trophies, but their emphasis in the gaming world these days is a bit extreme. I'll take extra gameplay -- heck, even one extra level or one extra weapon -- instead of all those Achievements/Trophies.
People don't argue as much about Achievements as they used to now that PSN has Trophies. Woooo, I remember back when people claimed that Achievements alone made the 360 worth buying. Now it's not so big of an issue since both consoles have them.
Combat reminds me of Crisis Core...not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.
