Maybe they'll announce "Bobby Wake", a.k.a "the game where we actually deliver on all of those open-world, gorgeous-graphics, awesome-physics promises that we made when we first showed off the game".
Disagree and bubble me down, but you know it's true. :^)
This article forgot to mention two BIG things:
- patches. Patches and mods came first on the PC, not consoles. This is only a new thing for consoles, but PC gamers have been enjoying them for decades.
- indie games. You think Braid and Flower are the first creative indie games to hit the market? Think again. You could practically buy a crappy PC, slap a sticker on it saying "Indie game console", and never run out of free, indie games found on the internet. ...
I'd be grateful if Microsoft was half of what Sony was/is. But for now, they're not Sony. They're just "me too" Microsoft.
Never before in my life have I seen the video game industry so galvanized against something (in this case, motion controls) only to turn around and worship it after a single E3 conference.
Not surprised to see an article like this in an Xbox magazine, since Microsoft has been preaching "DD is teh FUTURE" about 5 seconds after support for HD-DVD was dropped. But I have yet to see the proof. Many of the factors involving DD "saving the industry" have nothing to do with the video game industry itself, but rather with peripheral industries upon which the video game industry relies.
A few examples:

Sonic Team is the one that keeps screwing the franchise up. Believe it or not, there have been some decent Sonic games in the last few years, but they were all on the DS (the Sonic Dark Brotherhood RPG and also there are two "traditional" 2D Sonic games on the DS that are good).
Microsoft is in a tough spot. They don't have strong 1st-party support, nor do they share their software tech with other devs. On top of that, most of the 360's exclusives are made with Unreal Engine, because it's a quick and easy way to make a game. So, the tech advances on the 360 are few and far between.
@ heroicjanitor
You must not play Valve games on the PC, huh?
Left 4 Dead was the culmination of several ideas that have been in fan-made HL/CS/etc. mods over the last 5 years. It offered a few new things and prettied it up, but the core concept has been done before many times.
@ darthv72
Your logic applies to the 360 as well. The PS3 is a gaming system, even if it is purchased for the Blu Ray initially. On the same note, I know several "older" couples who bought an Arcade 360 simply for the Netflix playback. The only games in their house are the ones their grandchildren bring over.
So, quit with your one-sided logic and think for a moment, mkay?
Valve has been running short on good ideas, lately. It seems like all of their recent hits have been fueled by the creativity of their fans.
There are games which allow you to shoot Muslims/Christians/Jews/etc. (religious persecution), dogs/cats/birds (animal rights violations), politicians and celebrities, and of course there are games where you can shoot strippers and hookers.
So. it's okay to shoot heterosexuals but not gays? Talk about being too sensitive...
Personally, I wouldn't play this game, but that's because it likely sucks, not because it offends my sensibilities.
I would love an Xbox handheld (no, not a Zune with gaming apps as an afterthought). Handhelds consume more of my time than consoles do, so I'd love to see Microsoft take a stab at one. Who knows? Perhaps they can replicate Bungie's success by showing the world 1st-person shooters CAN be done on handhelds.
Heh heh heh. Yep, I remember that one.
To be honest, I never enjoyed the Mortal Kombat games, not even in their prime. They just didn't appeal to me. I had more than enough "over-the-top violence" from PC gaming, and the fighting mechanics were terrible compared to Street Fighter 2 or the various SNK fighting games, so I never really saw the appeal of the game except to the mass-market gamers.
The more Blu Ray support, the better, yet somehow I doubt Microsoft would make a Blu-Ray add-on for the 360, especially with all the work they've been doing to convince their fanbase "you don't NEED Blu-Ray! Here's Netflix! Here's Hulu!"
I think there's a simple explanation: crappy D-pad, or not-crappy D-pad? I'm also pretty sure (although I could be totally wrong) that Street Fighter 4 sold more on the PS3. Maybe that's where the majority of fighting-game fans are.
But what about gamers who wanted the graphically-superior PC version?
This game just can't get a break. They keep cutting more and more and more out of it. It's going to be the next "Alone in the Dark", methinks.
Oh God. I hope not. It was barely a tech demo at E3. If it came out in November, it would be a rush job.
Please, Microsoft. You want to usher in this so-called "future of gaming"? Make it work, and make it work properly. Take your time for once and don't rush it.
@ Elven
Yes, I know about the earlier indie projects on consoles, but let's think practically here: did PC or consoles popularize indie games? The resounding answer is "PC".
