Exactly. The scale is 0-10. This got a 7.5, which would be the equivalent of Ebert giving a movie 3/4 stars (a good movie review score).

Destructoid is one of the few sites that uses the whole number scale. As such, ACIII is above average in their eyes. A good game. There's no shame in a 7.5 from Destructoid.

This seems pretty obvious considering Randy has said many times that these shift code drops are "tests" or that they're "testing and fine tuning the shift system". Generally speaking, when you test a content delivery system it's usually done to ready it for something else. What that something will be remains to be seen.

This. People complain that "every game gets a 7 or higher" and that it's too hard to separate the average games from the above average. Yet when sites finally start cracking down on poor execution in game design (RE6, MOH) we get droves of gamers crying out that it's "too harsh".

Frankly, I'm thrilled to see this. Not because I have anything against this particular game (I don't), but because it's nice to see the bottom half of the r...

I wouldn't say that. A ton of EA games have been "peaking" lately in terms of critical reception. Games like Madden and Fifa have been getting top marks. Also, the newest SSX was well received, as was the NBA Jam remake.

Then there's BF3, Mass Effect 3, Dead Space 2. EA has been on an upswing compared to early on this gen (critically speaking).

I wouldn't say that. Anyone older than 30 could have grown up with Atari, Coleco, Intellivision, or Magnavox.

I think what DivineAssault meant is that if a person only owned a Wii this gen, then said person might believe this will be the best launch lineup ever since they haven't played the ports.

However, someone who has a 360 or a PS3 won't be as enthused since they've likely played and beaten a number of these launch titles. For them this launch probably won't seem overly exciting.

"...less than half the price."

1/2 of the Wii U price tage = $150/$175

Cheapest Xbox 360: $200

Cheapest Playstation 3: $250

Something doesn't add up here.

Two review scores isn't a consensus. Here are some more from respected sources:

GameInformer: 5/10
Giant Bomb: 3/5
Joystiq: 3.5/5
GamesRadar: 2.5/5
Destructoid: 3/10
CVG: 6.1/10
Kotaku: No

From what I've read in the reviews the game is on-rails (meaning we were lied to) and the controls are horrible. This also sucks for people who were looking forward to more Fable. Considering how strong the first th...

Hardcoregamer.com isn't exactly a top-tier website. Not saying their opinion doesn't matter, but I would be concerned if sites like that are the only ones giving high review scores. My stable includes:

IGN
1UP
GameInformer
G4
GiantBomb
GamesRadar
Joystiq
GameTrailers
Destructoid
GameSpot
Eurogamer
CVG

Those are my go-to twelve.

Sigh. Still waiting for someone to pull off a great Kinect game.

@Frag:

"Why is it such a big deal that people enjoy Live?"

Perhaps you need a lesson in literacy. I never claimed that people shouldn't enjoy XBL. It's nowhere in my post. What I did say is that I'm not going to pay about $300 over 6 years to play games online when I can do it for free. I have no problem with other people paying money to play games online.

The games I've played online (Call of Duty 4, Warhawk, Ki...

@3-4-5

One time payment? That would be nice, except I've had my Playstation 3 for five years now, and I'll be playing all year next year since new systems won't be out until next holiday at the earliest.

Had I bought a 360 instead I'd have had to pay $360 for online gaming ($240 if I got 12 month cards on sale for $40).

$240-$360 to play video games online? No thanks.

They'll have new codes at 5am, 11am, and 3PM Central time on Saturday (today). In the UK that would be 11am, 5pm, and 8pm Saturday.

If you have a PS3, I strongly recommend giving Okami HD a look, especially if you've never played it. I put 50 hours into that game on PS2, and plan to do so again later this month (if I can get myself away from Borderlands 2 that is).

@Jimmy:

1UP's letter system has 13 scores (A+ through F). As such, you divide 10 by 13 and multiply by the corresponding number for the letter grade (C+ would be 7). The result, rounded up, is a 5.5/10. That's how Metacritic applies a numeric score.

Another way to look at it is there are six possible grades above C+ and below C+. Being exactly in the middle, that would give you a 5/10.

As such, the numerical score from 1UP would b...

The sites giving it low scores are respected gaming sites:

Joystiq 2.5/5
Destructoid 3/10
Gamesradar 3.5/5
Gamespot 4.5/10
EDGE: 6/10
G4TV 2.5/5
1up C+
Eurogamer: 6/10

The only top-tier sites and mags to give it a high score are IGN, GameTrailers, and GameInformer; none of which were 9/10 or better.

The other good scores? Random blogs and console specific sites and magazines. The best ...

It sucks but green is right from a sales perspective. The Vita won't sell unless it has super-casual titles. The PSP had a ton of good casual-yet-core games like Lumines, Patapon, and LittleBigPlanet. If Sony doesn't start churning out more games like LittleBigPlanet Vita then they won't get the market share they need for 3rd party support.

I think a $199 price point would do wonders for sales personally, but it's hard to say.

Sincerely, an...

Exactly this. I couldn't get enough of Resident Evil 3 and 4 (never got a chance to play the first two). RE3 was downright terrifying. Nothing you did stopped Nemesis. Never been more scared of an enemy/boss in my life. While upping the action, RE4 was still scary because you didn't know what was coming (constantly changing environments and enemies) and you always felt a bit under-prepared and under-powered at each encounter. Same holds true for Dead Space.
