Why? 4.5 isn't that far removed from a few other reputable sources, including:

GameInformer: 5
GamesRadar: 6
IGN: 6.3

If everyone were giving it an 8 or better you might have an argument, but that's not the case.

Went to Target today and they had both models in stock at 4:00PM.

One year post launch is generally the sweet spot for buying consoles (historically speaking). That's when you start to see the first "absolute must-have" games. Of course there are exceptions (Halo CE, Twilight Princess, etc.), but one year is when things kick into gear full swing.

On the other hand, people who only own a Wii and who haven't played the coming ports would benefit a lot from buying now. HD Mario, Batman: Arkham City, and Mass Effect 3 are t...

Agreed. Any Wii U buyers who want a quality 3rd person action game should strongly consider Arkham City. It's a really fun game. Good atmosphere, great voice acting and story, variety in the gameplay, and lots to do.

Rocksteady knows their stuff.

Consider this though. Look at a game like New Super Mario Bros U. 2D platformer with cartoon graphics (not dissing the graphics, that's just a descriptor of the graphic style). A side scroller with a cartoon graphics style is putting almost no load on the CPU, GPU, or RAM. Nintendo spent three years developing the game with a full 1GB RAM, multi core CPU, and an alright AMD GPU. And with all that they STILL couldn't get the game running in 1080p.

I don't get ...

krisq didn't say vulcanproject's post was fact. krisq said vulcanproject made an accurate observation, and he/she did. The Wii U's launch titles should look better than what's out there now. There should be a noticeable gap. With 6-7 years since current gen consoles launched and developers like Ubisoft who are familiar with HD programming, these games should have been better. I don't know why Nintendo won't just announce what's under t...

IGN, GameInformer, and GameTrailers all gave scores of 6.7 or worse. It doesn't have a positive review yet on Metacritic.

"Mark my words soon you'll see a Playstation and Xbox tablet. Heck sony is already there with Wikipad and PSvita."

The PSV isn't a tablet. It's the logical next step from the PSP. Bigger screen, a second analogue stick, touch screen, and track pad. With the exception of the track pad, it's what everyone assumed they would do, not a response to what Nintendo has done.

"Also does anyone agree with my end statement about the gam...

@Qwark:

The reason people hate COD (myself included) is because it stifles sales of other games. Think about previous consoles. Although one game might have "ruled" when it came to multiplayer (Goldeneye, Halo 2, etc.) people still bought tons of games. They didn't play these games exclusively.

Go to today and there are literally millions of gamers who buy COD every year and either play only that game or a very small handful of others. I hav...

Yeah no. Call of Duty doesn't look anywhere near as good as Battlefield 3 on consoles. 60 frames per second doesn't mean a game has better graphics. It means it runs faster. The textures in BF3 are vastly superior to MW3 and BO2, as is the lighting, smoke effects, and particle effects. It's not even close.

Also, I never said BF3 and Uncharted 3 were "my kings of graphics". I said I was spoiled by Uncharted 3 because I've played the game extensi...

Enhanced graphics? Maybe I'm spoiled by BF3 and Uncharted 3 but IGN's review video of Black Ops 2 looks pretty poor in my eyes, especially when it got to the multiplayer portion of the video.

@KwietStorm

I assumed that the RE5 knock was directed towards the added co-op, since that was the biggest knock against the game. We must have played different versions of Resident Evil 5 though because the one I played:

1) Didn't have universal ammo
2) Didn't have more frequent ammo drops (same as RE4)
3) Didn't have a full cover system (you couldn't take cover at will, only in a few random spots per level)

A...

If you play the game solo, you don't have John Carver following you around, getting in the way, and getting killed. If you play solo, it's just Isaac. The experience will be the same as the first two games when you play solo.

When you play co-op, you get the added bonus of getting John's story.

I myself look forward to playing the game solo first, then playing it through with a friend online.

Sounds like a love/hate game based on the reviews so far. I've seen positive reviews from GameInformer, GamesRadar, and GameSpot but less enthused reviews from IGN and 1UP. Some say the racing is really fun/exciting, while others deem it dull.

I'm interested to see what the other top guns (Destructoid, G4, GameTrailers, Joystiq, etc.) have to say.

@greenpowerz

Dante didn't say the scores are mixed, just that the "complaints and praises" are mixed. In other words, some of the aspects that one reviewer really likes aren't as well received by another. For instance, I've seen a lot of varying opinions on the pace of the game.

But the scores are fantastic, so there's no need to be nervous.

Narrowed down to the Big Boys:

Destructoid: 10
Joystiq: 5/5
IGN: 9.8
GameInformer: 9.3
GameSpot: 9
G4TV: 4.5/5
Gamesradar: 4.5/5
1UP: A-
Eurogamer: 8
CVG: 8
Giant Bomb: 4/5

That leaves GameTrailers and EDGE. Of those eleven scores, seven are 9.0 or better. Good stuff.

Yeah there's no problem here. Being a huge fan of a game series doesn't make you blind to flaws in later releases. For instance, I was a huge Resident Evil nut until RE5 came around. Despite being as excited as I was, I still ended up feeling let down by that game.

Enthusiasm can make you overly forgiving, but it can also make you highly scrutinous and critical. I don't know which one this reviewer falls into (don't know the guy), but his excitement isn...

My list isn't based off of which games I think deserve to win GOTY, but rather which games were reviewed highest this year and as such are the most likely to win. With a lot of big games getting shuffled back to 2013 this year is pretty up for grabs.

My personal GOTY is Borderlands 2, but that's because I've had the most fun with it. Playing with two of my friends online has been a lot of fun. Lots of chaos, joking around, etc.

4858d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Welp, that leaves us with Mass Effect 3, Dishonored, and Borderlands 2 (Halo 4 could be added to that list) for Game of the Year contenders. It wouldn't surprise me if each game won a few on different sites, but Dishonored and Mass Effect 3 seem to be the leaders.

Who do you think will win the most? And which game is your personal GOTY (so far)?
