Have you played Hades lol? How was that game "ruined" by having the option to resume where you left off?
If you tried to save scum it would delete your save and reset you. That feature was a necessity in that game, and in Returnal, where runs can take hours, it's even more important.
I know they're different games but I was just expecting this game to be more like Hades, which I absolutely loved and was the first rougelite I played. The accessibility "God Mode" in Hades was so well executed too. The lack of that, permanent stat increases, or even the ability to save are putting me off this game.
If the CPU is capable of hitting 60fps (which should be every single cross gen game, since the CPUs in the new consoles are roughly 4X as powerful and cross gen games are running at 30fps), there should always be a performance mode that reduces graphics (lower res, or no RT, etc) to target a higher framerate.
Yeah, luckily you don't need a crazy CPU anymore to run it. If you're trying to exceed the default framerates of games like in Botw you need a beefy CPU, but very few games have fps unlock mods. So a decent quad core does the job :) the best part is playing games like MK8, Pikmin 3, etc at 4K. The art styles are so clean and crisp and hold up great!
Or a moderately recent PC, CEMU is amazing. Even a 1050 can emulate the games at a higher res than the Wii U :)
I think what holds it back from being a good buy is that it never really went down in cost. I got a really good deal on a used one about 6 months after it came out, and now about 4 years later, they go for more than I paid for it. I guess it's cause it was a low volume console. If you can get one for like 250, maybe even 300, it's really not a bad deal. A lot of games (particularly first party like Horizon Zero Dawn) look fantastic on it, and run the same as they do on a PS5. Most gam...
Give it a PS5 update then FFS.
The 60FPS is definitely the most important thing for me. I wish more devs had reconstruction methods similar to Isonmiac's temporal injection used in Spider-Man and R&C. 1440p holds up really well on a 4K TV using that tech.
Semantics here, but if it's more powerful to such a degree that games could be ported to it which aren't possible on the normal switch, how would that be any different than a Switch 2? There would be games for it not available on the normal switch, that's basically the key thing that makes a system a sequel/next gen system, vs a situation like the PS4 Pro/Xbox One X which play all the same games as the base systems.
I would love a switch with no bezels, a 1080p...
Maybe I'll buy it at the end of the year, months after the next gen patch comes out and they've fixed whatever they'll inevitably mess up with that, when the game can be found used on disc for like 12 bucks. Hopefully they can improve some of the other shortcomings of the game by then too (doubtful).
They don't want to set a precedent cause that makes selling paid remasters harder... I'm replaying God of War right now, and the unpatched disc version can run at 4K60. It's a great experience, but I'm almost certain there's gonna be a paid remaster that comes out which is just the same game plus some reworked effects and textures, at 4K60. Or if you want ray tracing, cutting down on FPS (or possibly just on resolution a lot). They could easily just push out a patch to all...
So in the PS3 to PS4 transition we were lucky enough to be getting 2 games for each console each month with PS Plus (and 2 more for vita if you had one...). This time around with backwards compatibility, and the fact that there aren't PS5 exclusive indie games to give away which is what largely populated PS4's PS Plus games for a while after launch, this is the approach they're taking I guess. Giving one PS5 optimized game each month but only on PS5 even if it's a cross gen ga...
It uses the haptic feedback, the rumble feels noticeably better, but nothing on the adaptive triggers.
Wonderful option for those with 1080p displays or just those sitting so far from their 4K TVs that 1080p still looks okay. I normally play in the 60fps mode when I'm up close but when I'm 10 feet away in bed I think I'll be adding on the RT from now on!
You can play it patched at 60fps, it's just at 1080p, so unless you're sitting far away, meh... If you've got the disc I think it's worth playing the unpatched version even if it's inferior in some ways.
I traded in my disc version to gamestop during a promo since I knew it would be added to the PS Plus collection... Really regretting that now. Would gladly give up NG+ and some bug fixes for that MASSIVE res bump.
Nothing wrong with dynamic resolutions. It's better than the framerate dropping. Honestly I think the sweet spot is for games to target 1800p (with dynamic res that can scale lower or higher as needed), then use some reconstruction to get even closer to 4K. And use the saved performance to increase some graphics settings!
83% the price for a game that's half as long and re-uses the open world from the last game. Should've been 40 or even 30. The Lost Legacy, which people love to compare this too, was a totally new adventure, close to as long as UC4, and yet 40 bucks.
Not trying to be a hater, I'll actually be playing MM becuase I'm excited for it, but this isn't a very fair/pro consumer price point for what the game is.
As excited as I am for this game, the fact that it's half the length of the original and is literally re-using the open world, yet is still 50 (just BARELY cheaper) is indeed not a great sign. This isn't an Uncharted Lost Legacy situation. That game used the same engine as UC4 yes, but it was closer to it in length, the levels/worlds were totally unique, and yet it was still only 40 bucks. Re-using the city and not expanding upon it makes sense for this game, and it's the reason w...
People are not understanding the issue at hand. In rougelikes, when you die, you restart the run from the beginning with a newly generated world. The save option isn't about that. It isn't a manual save that you can load up again. It's literally just about being able to resume where you left off if you quit the game.
Hades for example is definitely shorter, runs take less than an hour, yet it still allows you to quit the game and resume from the last room you we...
